Default Need shock advice for Moostang

Okay so, I could go on the mustang forums and ask about shocks, but most of those guys seem to think that everything needs to be made of solid billet aluminum, and make a lot of decisions based on brand names. So reposes will most likely be "I got them there steeda springs and they ride real good plus give me the aggressive stance that my cousin- I mean girlfriend, loves". But anyway...

Im on a budget, but I really want to do springs and shocks.
There are several inexpensive shocks that I am quite leery of, such as the Koni STR.T, and Tokico HP, which can be had for under 400 bucks. Then there is a big leap in price to Koni Sports (Yellows) and Bilstein HD, which can be had for under 700 bucks.
I would like something rebuild-able, and I want something that perform well at the occasional autocross. I am not going to compete with this car any time soon, so Im not looking for anything spectacular or highly adjustable. But I dont want a "ricer" shock that isnt going to do anything.

If i remeber correctly You have a S197.

Id run Koni Sports (actually waiting til midnight to put my order in for the Z28), but the STRs are the favorite inexpensive ones. The steedas are are actually pretty popular among the guys that know what they are doing not just the cervini bodykit/billet bullshit guys. I dont believe the STR.Ts are rebuildable.

I do believe Koni is running a big sale on the sports starting on the first. I'd talk to Sam Strano (stranoparts.com) Hes got the Fbody Konis marked way down right now.

Im paying 750 for Koni Sports and BMR springs through one of Sams competitors, but sam is running a similar sale

I do like bilsteins, in fact I almost ordered them for the Fbody until the Konis went on sale, in the Fbody world they are far superior to the bilsteins when going to an aftermarket spring with a lower ride height.

For the S197 Fitment the bilsteins actually cost more than the sports.

Sam Strano is like a 6 time SCCA world champion and ran a 01 Z28 but now he is running a S197 with quite a bit of success if I remember correctly, so I do trust his reccomendations for suspension setups on those two platforms and he swears by the konis.

From what Ive gathered from my limited research on the S197 most people say the strs are about as comfortable as the sports on full soft.

If your looking at Konis, now is the time to buy with them being like 20% off, apparently last year when this sale happened Koni sold almost all of their north american stock and it got pretty hard to find shocks for certain platforms.

I wish I had the the 2500 bucks to spend on an AST 4150 setup from Vorshlag

I think I need to go with my initial plan and get some Koni Yellows, I know theyre popular in the Honda world, and I see that Strano puts them with his kits as a step up option from the STR.Ts. Im pretty sure I will be disappointed with the STR.Ts, its probably like getting a Tokico Blue or something.

Call Sam Strano and pick up a set of Koni Yellows. Koni is getting ready to have their annual 3/1 sale (buy 3 get the 4th free).

I'm trying really hard not to pick anything up for my '13 GT Track Pack Mustang.

EDIT: See the Strano and the sale were mentioned in post #2.

Normally Koni and BMR springs are 1179. I just paid 750.
