Default I got bullied by a V6 Mustang

I've never been fond of bullies. Growing up I hated bullies. I was never bullied and that's cause bullies hated me. Whenever they saw me they knew not to mess with me or my buddies. When I was in middle school going on to high school I realized that I had stopped growing but the bullies had not so I needed an edge in order to have the power to be the bully's bully. The answer was the gym. Now in high school going on college I realize that the bullies were no longer in the classrooms but on the streets. I used to believe that all the power my little 1.6 had was plenty to push my tiny ton of a sports car through the twisties, leaving others in the dust but then a measly bully in a V6 pony car reminded me that life isn't all one big canyon road. After this devastating hit to my ego I realized that there was only one answer. Turbo.
Since I am going to college I won't have the extra money to have a second car so this will be my daily driver and I take road trips once or twice a month so it must be reliable. Because I've made some shakey choices in the past with my money without research, I'm starting my research now so I'll be well informed by the time I begin the journey to embarrass every Mustang in Southern California (or at least the V6s &#128514. My engine has just over 200,000 miles and still seems strong. So far I have a Boss Frog roll bar and some real cheap coils I don't want to talk about. Come about Christmas time they will be swapped with Tein coil overs. My power goal is honestly just more but 200 hp sounds like an awesome number but I'd be happy with 170 or 160.

You need $3500-$4500 to reliably turbo your miata and get it up around 200whp. So start saving and budgeting that much. Anything much cheaper then that and reliability will go out the window. Then at that power level you should have no issue stomping on v6 mustangs, and will probably keep up or beat most stock v8 mustangs.

Great. Channel that desire to prove yourself to others and finish school with top marks, learn a skilled trade. become a productive member of society and make a difference. Contribute to your 401k/TSP/retirement savings and put some aside for rainy days. Learn to live within your means and you're already a step ahead. Then worry about project cars to prove a point to mustang kiddos and stroke your delicate ego knowing that the rest of your life is sorted.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome

What makes you say you got bullied? Because a faster car beat you in a race or in the twisties, or because the guy was actually condescending or a jerk about it?

I ask because I always mess with people in my cars, and when someone in a much faster car messes with me I always try anyways because to me it's fun and I could care less whether I win or lose. It seems that some people take things super serious to the point that it's just silly, and there's no fun in that.

I dunno what years you're talking about, but the new GT's trap 114 in the quarter, and handle very well. A 200whp Miata aint even coming close to that. This aint 1996
Maybe the old crappy mustangs pre-2011

OP,
You sound young and broke. Don't turbo your car if you're young, broke, and this is your only car. It usually doesn't end well.

I don't plan on starting anytime soon. You're right I'm young, broke, and dreaming but I'd love to see what is possible and what is the best way to go about it years before I start. A little bit of studying never hurt anybody

By then, information you read now may be obsolete. But study up, keep reading, lurking, searching.

See you then.

The cool thing for you is that most of the obstacles with properly boosting a Miata are either resolved or nearly resolved, so if you boost your car in a year or two you'll have the crème-de-la-crème of parts availability.

Also, by then, if you do actual research and learn, you should pretty darn near know everything there is to doing it, this place is a plethora of information. The first thing you'll learn is how much of a waste it is to turbo a 1.6, then you'll learn how silly it is to just randomly pick a power goal "cause it sounds like a good number", and on and on

Welcome to the site. You came to the right place to do some research and put together a gameplan. If you plan it out right you can set up several reasonably priced stepping stones in route to that $3500-4500 ultimate pricetag. I always feel better taking little steps that I can enjoy along the way rather than one big financial hit.

^What they said.

Welcome to the forum. Yes, even a new Camry will stomp the **** out of a 1.8 Miata at a stoplight. 1.6 Miatas lose to v6 Dodge Caravans. Torque and power have never been the Miata's strong suit.

The 1.6 cars have so many weak points to overcome outside of just the engine that it makes sense, if you love the platform, to get a 1.8 car when you are out of school and ready to make this happen. The 1.6 cars have very weak stock differentials that fail commonly at stock power levels and require upgrading at $$$, and you also need the larger CV axles. The brakes are all smaller, they don't have VTPS, they have crappy coils, less body bracing, smaller fuel tanks, etc. Don't get carried away on buying mods for your car that won't transfer to a 1.8 later. Concentrate on things the car does well, like suspension.

Welcome and good luck.
