Talking N00b from Florida

Hi everyone,
My name is Jeff and I'm such a n00b that I don't even own a miata yet. I'm an engineer and enjoy tinkering and modding so I've been looking for a project car. After many internet searches I've found that the answer is always Miata. My DD is a 2012 VW GTI which is pretty fun but I'll probably end up getting some sort of boring family car in the future.
After my initial research, I think ive settled on the NA generation and would like to add forced induction eventually. I'm not looking to race Vin Diesel for pink slips but I'd like to have something that has some punch.
It's good to join the community and I look forward to learning a lot and actually getting a car.
Regards,
Jeff

Buy a '94-up. There's a long list of reasons.

Put your location in your profile so it shows under your screen name. Somebody here is local to you.

He's in Florida, land of super cheap rust free 1.8s everyone dreams of. There is hope yet.

Also welcome, and definitely do the 94+ thing

Unless you can get a 1.6 for more than $1500 cheaper than a similar 1.8 (even then, probably not recommended), get a 94+.

This, from someone who owns a 1.6.

Unlikely to find a 1.6 for $1500 less than this... http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/cto/5572268133.html

Right, next time I go to florida I am just getting a 1 way ticket and buying a car and driving it back. That would be a $3500-4k car here.
