Default n00b in Socal

Had my 1996 M-ed for about a year, but I just moved from DC to LA and the miata is a great car for SoCal. I drive with the top down almost everyday! I've got a JRSC, but my previous 3 cars (all Nissans) were all turbo'd. Still not sure if I like the SC or turbo better.

Welcome aboard.

So, you just moved to LA? Don't paint your car black.

How about some pics of the car?

funny you should mention that, I have thought about painting the car black (it's currently a dark purplish blue). I'll post pics when I find my camera which is still in a box somewhere.

I'm in Santa Monica, it's very nice but also expensive. How do you people with turbo'd cars pass smog here?

Any particular part of the visual the the inspector is keying in on? He can't just open the hood and say "FAIL"... he's gotta tell you why.
And you should click on USER CP and put Santa Monica in your location. Also click on SIGNATURE and write something about your car so it appears in your posts.

A lot of guys with turbo cars here in CA convert back to stock one day a year for the check.

some of the hoses is what they said wouldn't pass oh and the timing (which I bumped down to what I think is 6-7 for the **** poor gas in CA). I might try to find a more mod friendly SMOG.

Welcome. You should definitely find somewhere else to smog the car. I go to school in Santa Monica and lots of places over there are too picky when it comes to modifications and whatnot. I'd suggest looking around Reseda/Northridge for another shop that isn't as picky.

AYFKM?
Dude, put the timing back to 10* and stay out of boost on your way to the smog station. Go to Pep Boys and replace any cracked vaccum lines.

And put a short writeup of you car/mods in your signature!

I finally got my car past smog. Now it's time to get a smaller pully and see if that will satisfy my power (for now). I'm still thinking about going turbo next year, a 220whp miata sounds tempting.
