NOOB From Tacoma.
Hello Everybody,
I understand that this is my first post and that I might have overdone it, so feel free to dog-me out on this one. But at the same time take a look at my overall plan and put your 2 cents into it.
About Me: 19 Year Army Veteran (thats years in service not age).
My Ride: 1991, 1.6 Base model, original engine with 230K miles . I purchase this vehicle as my first car October 91. It has been my daily driver ever since.
[B]Whats About to Happen[B]: A total rebuild.
My Experience: 12 years as a Hellicopter Turbo-shaft mechanic,with machinist and welding certification; three 12A & one 13B rebuild. Two VW Rabbit engine rebuild and too many cylinder heads to mention. I believe after all this I should be more than qualified to hold a few tools.
Here is What I am going for:
Head
- Deck .020
- 1mm oversize Valves
- replace lifters, springs, guides and seals
- Grind Seats
- Port and Polish
- HKS 264* cams (Still doing Homework on this)
- Adjustable Cam Sprokets
- 550cc Injectors w/ 255lph fuel pump
Bottom
- Wiesco pistons .040 over
- Eagle Rods
- new oil pump, water pump
- and of course this will be a total engine rebuild. I could continue to list every small detail but above is the main info necessary at this point.
What I am looking for: No less than 250-300whp. Of course that is after adding a Turbo and EMS. Thanks to this forum I will be able to chose and properly install the correct Turbo Equipment and set up to meet my goals.
This will still be my daily driver. Uncle Sam is sending me back to Germany and surely just dont want for "Hans & Franz" to come around in their silly GTIs or their crap *** Siroccos and Smoke me on the Autobahn. I am not interested in racing this car at the track, and because of German emission laws the use of an external open screamer wastegate is out of the question.
I got until the 20th of AUG to finish this project and yes I am very well aware of the turn around time at the machine shops. I already started to work in it and have most parts already in a storage facility near by.
My Old Way of Thinking: If its not broke dont fix it. If I wanted to drive a race car, then I should had bought one. No need to drive fast, just leave early.
WTF Happened?: I had enough!!!. I have wasted 3 of the last 5 years of my life in 3rd world countries chasing and shooting Camel Jockeys. My wife ran away with some young stud, my dog died and to top it all off some Douche bag in an old Fiero cut me off and almost blew me of the road...yeah thats right a foking Fiero!!!

So here are some pics of what I am up Against. I will continue to take pictures and post them as I fix my future mighty machine!!!
BTW...thats what my ex-wife did to it while I was in Iraq last year...its a break fluid bath!!! But its ok...I have a vandalism clause. Insurance Co will be paying for the paint job.
Yes interior needs lots of work also, but it will be done!!!

Holy crap. To say that needs work is an vast understatement. Have to start somewhere I suppose. No wheels, tires, steering wheel, differential, etc, on your list? At least a paint job is.

The wheels , tires, steering wheel, and the rest of the "make me pretty please" interior stuff is sitting at my storage facility. All that will be taken care off while the block and the head are being worked at the machine shop.
As far as the Tranny, differencial, big brakes, bushings, brake line ect...all will be taken care of as time permits (bushigs and brakes came in today).
Now, I am not a 19 year old youngster looking to burn rubber at every street light.
What might seam like a piece of crap to you at this time (no offence taken), had been with me for almost 19 years, 230K+ miles. I take good care of my vehicles. So, if dont get to check those items off my list before shipdate. Then I will most definetly drive around with the upmost respect for the new set up.

Non of the good shops that I have been recommended in this area will give an accurate estimate. They all tell me to bring the head and let them take a look at it.
I have done this before, but its time consuming and I only have about 7 weeks to get all this done. So paying someone in order to care of other "easier" things seems more reasonable.
What should be a good quote on that? I havent dealt with a machine shop in years. I am sure prices have gone up since then.
