Default Who am I?

Hello all in Miata land, 30 yr old noob here from Arlington, WA. I’ve been a Miata owner for a few years and have been a car guy for many years. My current project is a white 1992 and my daily driver is a mostly stock red 1990. I’ve been autocrossing for about 5 years and this last year I have been introduced to track days and I can’t get enough of it. My mechanical skills far exceed my wallets capacity but I certainly don’t know enough and my fab skills are getting better as I learn what not to do next time and as my tool collection grows. I’m here because I’m a do it yourselfer junkie who likes to converse with like minded people and I can take a good flaming once in awhile and this seems to be the place. Anyways on to my car, I put a few pics up in my photo section but ignore the red stripes as they are gone now. As it sits now its got JIC coilovers 12/9kg, 7/8 front bar, no rear bar, crappy 14” wheels with Falken Azenis, Fidanza 1.6 flywheel on the way, hardtop, Sparco Sprint 5 seat with OMP 6 point belt, Harddog HC roll bar, Sparco Steering wheel, No radio, No AC, No power steering, No power windows, No Cruise control, No airbags, No carpet, No soft top. Its still a 1.6 NA for now as I have been focused mostly on the chassis and weight reduction but FI is defiantly on the to do list, along with many others. My goal is to set up one hell of a fun track day car piece by piece as the wallet allows and I could care less how comfy it is on the street. I would really like to hook up with any locals if the chance came up as I am kinda a loner, Piece out. PS. I promise to use the search button.

No idea on a total number, but every now and then there are events. Really depends what you are into. Lots of the guys track their cars, a few autocross and there's even one that's into drag racing. There's an All Mazda Dyno Day on the 19th at Corksport and then drag racing later that evening at PIR.

Does that mean you live in the NW miatasr? Sounds like you have an admirer ak4two.

If you're interested having a turbo'd track car, I'd do A LOT of research first. Read these three threads:

https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t35...ht=pornography

https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t28...tler%27s+build

https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t35874/?highlight=epic

Although a lucky few who usually have lower power levels and/or less intense driving styles have gotten away with not having a v-banded turbo/manifold setup, if you read those threads (and I mean read them, all of them), you'll see that it's generally considered a 'waste of money' to track a car without v-bands. There's some welded nuts/space age studs/star wars loctite/unobtanium nuts ideas being thrown around and a few being tested, but it's still a bit of an unknown as to whether or not they're working. That's all described in the last few pages of the epic nuts/studs thread.

I don't personally have the money for a MS or R-comps or v-band manifolds, and as much fun as I have on the street and track with my turbo'd miata, I think because of these monetary reasons, if I could go back in time I'd tell myself to stay NA, work on weight reduction, driving skill, and chassis setup. Just my though.

Default Thanks curly

Thanks for the advice curly, and for sure those are some great threads. I can see why the V band is the setup to have. I certainly plan on boosting in the future but not until I have a strong motor, chassis and drivetrain built first. For starters I need a healthy 1.8 and gearbox, then on to big brakes and then dedicated track wheels with r comps. And then...............you get the point. Having something that will hold up at the track is just as important to me as having something that is fast at the track. Both would be great but I do what I can with what I have, and right now thats a momentum car but one that goes all day and then some.
