Hello, my name is Greg.

In 2006 I bought an 04 STi and then, I blew the motor in the STi, backing out of a parking lot. I bought the car used and was told by the dealer, the previous owner did not reflash the ecu per a Subaru TSB for pinging. And they then proceeded to explain the difference between a TSB and a recall to me. I rebuilt the motor with forged pistons over the next few weekends, and after final assembly weekend, I was told I was losing my job.

After I was told the dealership I was working for was going under, I had to sell my 04 STi. I needed a replacement car, it was a toss up between an S13 240SX or a Miata. Akaryrye gave me a ride in his first turbo Miata, an 89(I think.), and I was sold.

A few weeks later, I bought a black, 95 C package Miata. I wanted to make sure I bought one with a limited diff.

Over the next few months I found another job and:

I bought a hardtop for it, used Koni yellow sports, Racing Beat springs, Racing Beat sway bars, ebay short throw shifter, and ES endlink bushings. One of my other friends also bought a Miata and then a parts Miata... which stayed at my house for longer than expected. In exchange for storage and labor, I recieved an R package wing, Garage Vary lip, single diagonal roll bar(Hardog?).

Then I lost my job again...

Then when akaryrye parted out his car, I picked up his old engine, tranny, and Konig Heliums w/Azenis. And in a stroke of luck, I found his first turbo car wrecked in a pick n pull.

I pulled the Carrillo rods out of it the next weekend. I have mildy polished the head from the 1.8 motor, and I'm at the point to where I need to invest more money into the car. Until I get a job, this is as far as I can go.

My original plans were to turbo the car to, ideally to achieve 14psi by 4k and hold till redline. Originally I wanted to use a TD04-13T from my old 04 WRX, before the STi. But after looking at compressor maps, I think this turbo may be too small.

I'm now on the verge of getting a new job, and leaning towards an GT2854. My plans are to buy and install a Megasquirt 2 ecu, wideband O2, make sure everything is ok. Then add 460cc RX7 injectors or 550cc RX7 injector(price is an issue at this time). Once that is running well, I'll then add the turbo. Goal is +200hp/200tq to the wheels.

I am not much of a fabricator, but I am very mechanically inclined and I have learned a lot from reading this forum.

I hope to continue to learn from this incredibly informative place.

Sorry for the long intro.

Very nice intro and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about the Subaru. A friend of mine had similar issues with his 2007 model, but instead of getting a miata he bought a Acura TL and now he is miserable, lol.

Good luck with your build. Do some searching for that turbo you have, I believe some members on here have run that exact turbo and have posted dyno results.

Edit: Nice score on the carillo's, however, they are not needed for power goals of 200whp/wtq. I would suggest selling them in the classifieds to help fund other items you need. As long as they are straight they will hold their value.

It was a fine intro. Sounds like your on the right track. Sorry to hear about your bad luck but it sounds like you got some good karma back. Don't sweat it, everything will come in time.

Welcome aboard the board!

havent been on here in a while, but was happy to see this. Hopefully I'll be back in a miata soon instead of my current toyota, mobile prison (camry).
