CarPC + Megasquirt
As few of you heard from one of the threads here that I am developing new CarPC system. Yes, it is completely official and it is not 1-person company. We currently have 3 people in our company (including myself), several distributors, and several system builders.
Now, what does it have to do with Megasquirt? Our car computers come with MegaTune pre-installed! After you configure it for your specific vehicle you can monitor your car sensors, datalog, and whatever else Megasquirt can do. But it is not limited to it. As with few other Car Computers you get slot-loading DVD/CD-RW (DVD burner available), touch screen monitor (MANY different ones to choose from), GPS, bluetooth, etc etc.
Here is some information on pricing:
Basic system:
VIA EPIA ML 8000
512MB DDR
80GB HD
Slot-loading DVD/CD-RW
7" touch screen
Top system:
VIA EPIA PE 10000G
1GB DDR
160GB HD + 1GB CF card to lower boot times
Slot-loading DVD-RW/CD-RW
GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, media reader
7" in-dash motorized touch screen
Now, where else are you going to find complete system loaded with all the software, configured to work out of the box, AND have MegaTune pre-installed!?
Unfortunately we can not disclose pricing and/or pictures just yet. But if you would like more information you can take a look at our demo systems (installed in car and open case on stand) at HIN in Las Vegas on October 6th, 2007.
Hopefully, I will have my Miata ready by October so I can demonstrate our systems hooked up to MegaSquirt.
PS: We are very excited to be working on our new gadget which will be integrated in our systems by customer request which turbo guys will find extremely useful

dash kits are available already but it all depends on monitor you go with. if you decide to get our double din computer kit (1din pc, 1din monitor) or double din monitor + remotely installed pc - you can get aftermarket double din kit for miata. unfortunately we can not offer them directly from us simply because there are so many different cars and it is really not worth it for us to keep large stock of these dash kits.
in worst case scenarion you can always take it to any stereo installation shop and they will take care of it for $50 or so.

several options. our favorite free option is iCT (http://www.cartft.com/community/ict) and for commercial/more featured version is streetdeck (www.streetdeck.com)

Ok, just to give everyone idea on prices -
the most most most basic system without monitor is $520
the most expensive system goes for $2300
now... there are possibilities to make it considerably cheaper if you buy just parts and assemble everything yourself but whats the point then?

there are other possibilities for cheaper systems. the only problem with them would be space. cheaper system = bigger and little bit slower system.
anyways, we are working on several considerably cheaper prototypes based on different motherboards and cpus. this information is not yet officially released so dont' tell anyone
those new systems will run much cooler but will be a little bit slower.

now, if you look at high-end navigation/dvd car systems you will see that most brand names go for $900+ and they definitely dont offer 60gb hard drive on most basic system as well as wifi and bluetooth connectivity both for extra $50
oh, and you cant really do much upgrades to mac mini either (and it will suffocate if you put it in car without additional cooling)

just to conclude - we are working on website right now and once it is up and running, all the models and upgrades will be posted there as well as finalized prices. we might make it cheaper depending on how things roll
