Default mspnp getting started

just a few questions.

The base map for 9697, is it good enough to run around on without tuning further with a wideband? Right now I just have intake/exhaust but do plan on turbo eventually. My concern is I am used to tuning with a wideband, but started from scratch and with boost. I didn't have the luxury of having a base map ready for me. My initial thought was no, I know they are used to just get the vehicle started so you can start tuning. But since I am not boosted yet I am not sure. Thanks for any help.

I'd say it's good enough to start and "limp" around with. Install the WBO2 and start tuning as soon as you can. When I first started driving around with the MSPNP basemap (stock engine with stock injectors, etc.), it really didn't run well -- and that's the combo that the basemap was supposed to be for.

With VEA/VEAL and a WBO2, fuel tuning is super easy. I would say that the basemap timing is conservative enough to drive on safely for quite some time (until you can get to a dyno).

If I go to install today and can't get it running right I can just put the stock ecu back and I can drive like normal right? Also can you burn to ecu while the cars running or does it need to be turned off? I got a GM IAT sensor out of a 05 impala, it's 2 wire open element, that should work right?

There are good basemaps available for the mspnp that have VE scaled for boost.

If you remove the MAF then no you can't just swap the stock ecu back in and drive.

I suggest you get the wideband installed before you attempt to switch to MS or boost the engine.

Got it put in for mock up purposes just to see if it would run. It does, but it's shaky. I calibrated the TPS, set spark, all that stuff. I noticed the Fan w/inj on button at the bottom of tunerstudio keeps flashing green and it seems that's the problem with it, what is this?

Hmm maybe I didn't log it right, it doesn't show anything when I d/l it. Well anyways, when warm my inj pw hovers around 3.3 and my duty cycle is around 2.1-2.3

map pressure is steady at 26 (a little high yes?) rpm doesn't surge stays steady around 900. spark advance rock solid at 17 and coolant temp steady around 190-195. I added a bit of fuel via the ve table for idle rpm/kpa and it helped noticeably. When I give it a bit of gas it acts as if it doesn't want to rev. Like I will put maybe 5% throttle input and it will move maybe 100 rpm, then if I give it another 5% it will increase by about 1000 rpm. Also if I do 10% from the start it will rev then drop back about 300 rpm. Yes I have calibrated my tps. No throttle was 25 foot to the floor was 180 for me.

sorry spammy spam spaming but I've been working on it I adjusted req fuel a bit lower and its running better but duty cycle went up. Also pulled a few degrees timing back to 14 at idle since it never was at 17 at idle before. I took a snapshot because I don't know why TS isn't recording my data but when I view in mlv it doesn't show up. Also at the bottom in the pic where it says FANw/inj on what the heck is that? Cause I think that is whats causing my idle stumble it keeps jumping rapidly on and off. Also I check front bank 02 voltage and it's pegged at 1.18 volts. Also any way to turn the fans off they come on when temps get about 170 for some reason. Thanks for any and all help guys!

For req. fuel, you should really just use the calculator and leave it at that. If you're having idle problems, you need to look into your closed loop or warmup idle settings (whichever you're using).

26 kpa is fine for idle

your rev problem could be accel enrich related, or you could be idling very rich/the areas around your idle are rich. Hard to tell without a wideband.

Get a wideband, do some more reading, you'll figure it out.

Yeah I used the calculator. 110 cid 4 cyl 254 cc/min injectors and set my desired afr to 14.1. Should I set it back to 14.7 since I'm still on the narrowband?

Also, I noticed I have the 250kpa map sensor selected in my PROJECT settings but in the basic settings tab it is set for 400kpand I have the 4 bar, would that make a difference naturally aspirated?

Leave it at 14.7.

No idea on your second question.

You have to record a datalog first before you can view it. Go to datalog->start and you should see the datalog indicator light up green at the bottom right of the TS window. The view with MLV button is just for opening previously recorded logs or for following a live file, but it does not make a datalog.

Seriously, get a wideband. Otherwise you are tuning like Ray Charles, and you will certainly blow up the engine if you turbocharge it without a wideband.

The problem is I've been doing that. I have 4 datalog segments and nothing comes up when I view in MLV, says, and I quote, "No Time Column found! Playback unavailable for this log".

So I uninstalled and reinstalled it and it works now. Don't know what was wrong but it works. I drove around and logged. It stumbles if I give it gas to quick and I know the narrowband is nothing to go off of but it was red at anything above 15% throttle. So I put the stock ecu back in till I can get a wideband installed.

One question, in the Fuel VE tables, when I increase the value does it add or take fuel out? Thanks.

Under 'More Settings' > 'Outputs'

You'll see the lower output, #2, is set to activate on CLT, and the default temp is 215. Note that it actually activates 40 degrees under whatever this is set to, notice the note on that screen (F+40). So this is really activating the fan at 175 degreesF. You could raise it a bit if you wanted, I believe stock doesn't activate until 197*F, but I wanted to have it default a bit lower. -FoundSoul
