Default Swapping "new" 1.6 engine (2000) in a 1991 Miata with mspnp

Hi there

i think about swapping an 1.6 litre engine from an 2000 NB into my 1991 NA (MSpnp)
the biggest problem i think will be that there is no more a turning angle transmitter ?

which problems might occur?

greetings SnaG

I remember that another person recently attempted to use a Megasquirt PnP with a European NB 1.6 engine. Not only is there no CAS (Cam Angle Sensor, what you call turning angle transmitter) but there is no way to install one because the camshaft is too short.

Unless you can find a way to install this device onto the new engine (such as using a different camshaft) you cannot use an MSPnP on this engine, as the MSPnP uses the MS1 processor, which cannot read the NB's crank and cam sensors.

However, you could use the new DIYPnP, which uses the MS2 processor: DIYPNP - The Build It Yourself Plug and Play ECU! - DIYAutoTune.com

hmpf
so i would have to change to my old camshaft on the intake side,
but i was told that, this one would be rattling cause there is too much backlash

thx for answer

Why you do not simple install a Ford EDIS-4 with 36-1 Trigger-Wheel on your future system?

Look here:
Configuring Megasquirt for a DIYAutotune.com trigger wheel
Search for: EDIS on a Megasquirt-I V3.0 Board

V3.57 Board are similare to v3 boards, just some little changes.

Here are some information about V3.57 and V3

Here are the diffrentses listet from V3.57 to V3.0

Quote Joe:

MSPnP uses the MS1 processor, which cannot read the NB's crank and cam sensors

But you can buy the MS2 Daughterboard and MOD the MSPNP, like Zaphod.

Hi,

there are only 2 problems when putting a 1.6 NB engine into the NA:

The camshafts and lifters from the 1.6 NA have to be installed in the NB engine to be able to install the CAS.
The NB engine uses a different type of belt for waterpump and generator, so the crankshaft pulley has to be changed to the one from the NA, as well as the waterpump pulley.

About two years ago I fitted a 1.6 engine from a 2003 or 2004 model to a 1992 NA and it still works without any issue. I haven't installed the MSPNP right now but there isn't any reason it would not work.

I heard that the NB have a other Head, so the Hydros will not fit perfectly and then they are making some noise.

The head is different, that's true. But the only difference is the shorter and straighter intake and exhaust channels which may give some performance improvement. The hydro lifters from the NA fit perfectly and don't make any noise. As I said, I did the conversion myself and it still works perfectly. And I know of another conversion which works just as well.
