Wait Dude, what? You're telling us he jacked up your car to look for a cat? He actually pulled out a jack and started pumping? And I thought cops were lazy.
Couple questions (and these are questions, not accusations:
1) Did you act like a defensive little ---- toward the cop? Or were you polite and yielding?
2) You said you were doing 68... was this on a highway? Because in any other situation, you were way speeding; this tends to actually **** off the cops.
3) What's your bay look like? Care to post a photo? Does it look hacked? Kinda sounds like it might....
Just curious. This thread is useful for those who live in CA...

Be fair here. Obviously these laws come from two sources:
1) Over reaction to road racing. If you can't catch the guys passing at 120 mph on the shoulder in civics with cut springs or doing U-turns on busy roads over islands in their SUVs, you might as well assume that every raised truck or cold-air-intake is out to run people over. There is a lot of "attack what you legally can to solve this problem"
2) The not misguided attempt to save something of this world for air breathers and future generations. Pollution is a real concern, we've got billions of people on the planet, each dumping a lot more waste than natural processes may be able to cope with. Again, the issue here is poorly misguided laws. Ban anything you don't understand.
In both cases (patrolling and drunk driving checkpoints instead of speed traps, or tail pipe based emissions control and enforcement instead of visual inspections), the laws or selective enforcement are there to actually do some good thing. The trouble is in the implementation - cops being encouraged to throw the book at some people and let others go. My father couldn't recycle a truck full of scrap metal he'd collected over the years because they were afraid it was stolen. Did they check it out, interview him, check the reports for thefts that might point to him? Nope. They just refused instead of doing a proper investigation.
I dunno what the point of all this is. I guess it's to stop whining about how the government sits around all day, dreaming up ways to take away your rights (because they don't, they are too busy to sit around plotting about trivial **** like what you do with your sundays) and think more about dealing with the real problems - the lobbyists, the election system (bipartisanism leads to much of this bickering by forcing everyone to group issues to win half the votes), etc.
Suggest some laws that address the problems, send letters to the representatives, show them what's wrong. Don't just get a bumpersticker calling your governor a ------ - it's not productive, it's just whiney.
It's a crappy system we got, but bitching like that only distracts people from making it better, and distracts the poor guy getting the boot up his *** here from getting through all this so he can get back to laying some rubber.

Two words: Palomar Mountain.
... and of course the many other thousands of miles of the most awesome paved roads in the history of mankind. Julian, Ramona, Poway, Santa Ysabel, San Vicente, Valley Center, Borrego, Cuyamaca Peak, Santee, De Luz, Rainbow Valley, Mt. Olympus... and that's just north San Diego county.
Even though it means leaving CARB behind, I'm really not looking forward to moving to North Carolina from a driving perspective. Yeah, I know you guys have Deal's Gap... Trust me, it's a kiddy park.
OTOH, there's a reason I rent a car whenever I need to drive long distances, I prefer to keep my car off the interstates. The local cops don't give a ****, but CHP are hardcore. I'm in LA right now, driving a Mazda5, and I gotta tell you- this car blows. The driver ergonomics are straight out of a pickup truck.

While I agree these people are likley highly educated in the automotive industry and didn't just fall off the bus, I also agree with the window tint ticket angle. Putting the car back to stock is one way to nearly guarantee you'd pass the bastards testing. If they start to ask questions, simply tell them you didn't want to hassle with attempting to make the kit EO legal so you took it off and got it over with. With this angle however, either way I'd be a little concerned about getting another citation requiring me to return to the Refs shop for another automotive colonoscopy. Eventually I could see this raising some flags; "This guy keeps receiving citations to come in here for illegal turbo, yet everytime hes in here he passes?" Honestly I have no idea how exactly this process works so I can't say for sure myself. You do always have the option of attempting to register the car out of state at a family members house.
On a side note I also agree with previous posters about the Traffic Wardens; If you're pulled over for something (even if you're doing something *REALLY* stupid) just be calm, very very polite, and respectful to the officer. Yes Sir / Ma'am, No Sir / Ma'am, etc. Cops are people too, and they respond differently to someone thats polite vs. have a big attitude / disrespectful douche. I was stopped doing over 100mph one morning in my MS6 and was let go without even a written ticket -- Had I been a douche to the cop he could've arrested me.
Sometimes being an adult really sucks. Still trying to figure out why I'm expected to pay "property" tax every year on something I ******* own.. Bought and paid for. Ie, My 3 cars, bike, house, etc... Not only did I buy them and own nearly all outright, theres still some ******* somewhere that can tell me what I can / can't do with those items.
example: The city I live in will give you a ticket if your garbage cans are visible from the street 24 hours before or after trash day. Legally we're not allowed to work on cars in our driveway, but they don't enforce that one. My stack of bricks in front of my garage door waiting my new paver path is unlawful, they'll threaten to tow your vehicle if you leave it on jack stands unattended for more than 30 minutes... If a vehicle is covered current tags have to be displayed, even if NOTHING is visible under the cover, they'll ticket you if a vehicle doesn't move for longer than 48 hours.... And I don't even live in one of those stupid home owners communities with membership dues just to freakin live there either...

cali is awesome. i live in the bay area and i would live here despite carb bs any day. the weather here is perfect 98% of the time. its not super humid. i also live 35 mins from the ocean, (santa cruz, but monterey and carmel are really close too. but these places are amazing!) and 45 min from san francisco which is also a blast.
the driving around here is awesome. highway 9 is great, 17, 1, skyline is awesome, page mill, hicks road etc etc. not to mention that so cal is a 5 hour drive.

Saveington that is the best post i have esen you make ever
And the guy who said go back in with no turbo is a moron
Dude before you get pissed off and hurl a mouse at me listen why
He got a ticket for having a turbo car with illegal mods. He got citations on atleast 8 different things that he mentions earlier in the thread.
So lets review cop pulls you over for some random stuff sees turbo etc writes you for wrong bov, injectors etc. Then you smog ref it as a normal frigin miata. The ref is gonna laugh at you knowing no cop is gonna mistake a k&N in the stock airbox for a turbo. Then the fines are bigger badder and you pay more.
Plz newbs take the time to read whole threads before screwing up someones car or finances. It is the polite thing to do.
Eles i feel you man i been hollering that awhile my self

OP is gone, I take it?
Blast.
I'd really like to see a pic of his motor.
And find out a bit more about his interaction with the arresting officer.
And find out a bit more about where he was doing his speeding. Residential?
These are important (to me) because if he was driving like a jackass, and he reacted like a jackass, and his car is a ghetto-bucket with random hacked up DIY **** all over, then I'm slightly less concerned...

I live in Overland Park, Kansas.. A small (165,000 resident) suburb of Kansas City Kansas.. According to Forbes Magazine, its the number 6 top city in the United States to live in. Cost of living is very reasonable (House I live in is a 2 bed 1 bath w/finished basement on about 1/4 acre and 6 car driveway.. Appraised at $170,000). Gas on the other hand...
Honestly I don't mind it.. I mean, I could live in East LA..

'Course, mine's horribly hacked up, but... on the outside it looks stock enough.
