tap that pan!
been searching..
came up couple differnt interesting things maybe you guys can clearify. i need to tap my oil pan for the return line for my greddy turbo. i have PS & AC does it affect the clearance to drill?
i saw this.. but "Tunertoys" is out of business?
I put a really nice oil drain kit from TunerToys on my greddy car. That will remove the hard pipe and bring the oil straight down to the pan instead of all the way around the motor. I'm sure you can find some pictures if you search for it. It was about $40.
saw another post somebody said to...
use a NPT fitting? around 3/8" NPT to 5/8" hose from NAPA?
any other source for this besides napa?
use a 3/8" NPT tap
and.. 37/64" drill bit.?
the FAQ says..
M10 x 1.5 for the oil supply -4AN? bcuz -3AN is hard to source?
[ i still have the oringal greddy oil supply line.]
A 1/2" NPT to 5/8" Slip on fitting OR 1/2" NPT to -10AN
so what is the better route?
and where to get the SS line?
thanks

See this is the spoon feeding I was afraid you'd expect after your rimz thread, I'll try to push you in the right direction this time.
Online is your friend. Hardware and hoses can be found on summitracing.com, and a few other sites. Spend some time on them, even though I know summitracing fairly well, I'll spend a good 30 minutes on there just to get two fittings and a piece of hose for a drain line.
I'd skip the clamp on stuff because mine never seemed to be leak free. Put a 3/8npt-an fitting in the pan and turbo, then put a 45* an fitting on the pan and a straight fitting out of the turbo, it'll last much longer and shouldn't be as leak prone. Re-usable screw together fittings are available at summit.
Look up "drill chart" on google. It'll give you a huge chart of drill sizes in numbers, letters, and fractions, all corresponding to different decimal diameters. It'll also list tap sizes next to the appropriate drill sizes. 3/8 NPT is 37/64, and 1/2NPT is 23/32. Not sure where you need that though. Keep in mind the dimensions of an NPT thread have nothing to do with it's size. 3/8NPT is smaller than 1/2NPT, but that's not their diameter or anything.
Drain flanges with threads in them should be readily available, even on eBay. If you're hand you might be able to cut the pipe off the greddy unit and tap it, just take some measurements first.
That's all for now, go forth and learn.

NPT sizes correspond to the Inner diameter of the sched. 40 pipe they are formed on...i.e. 3/8 NPT is a pipe with a .375" i.d. and so on ...
National
Pipe
Thread
AN(army/navy)or JIC is is the # in 16ths...-6=6/16ths or 3/8ths.
You can go to a diesel truck repair garage, and they can crimp you a bespoke rubber covered steel braided hose in any Dia. and length for not too much.We can do it where I work.I tapped my pan 1/2" NPT and fabbed a -8 line to run for mine.

Braineack FAQ says...
"1/2" NPT to -10AN fitting would be used if using stainless steel lines."
how long of a SS line would i need?
i ebay the Drain flanges
1 says
for T3/T4 and the other says Fits all Garrett GT25R-GT35R turbochargers.
i am not sure if my greddy is a T3/T4 i know its not a GT...
thanks for quick replys curly..!

thread "borrowing" for a moment....
I've read EXTENSIVELY on this topic, however only a few pull the motor and the pan to do this job. Normally pulled because of other R&R issues.
I have used a drill once or five thousand times before, and always seem to get shavings into the hole being drilled.
I'm going to guess..."because so many before me have done this without pulling the motor, that the side effects of getting foriegn material in my oil pan are nonexistant"
Is this a safe assumption?

I had issues finding a drain too, had to buy two before I got the right one. Take some measurements off your current drain and find an online seller that's listing their measurements, match and profit. I've always figured the stock drain could be drilled and tapped, but I never took measurements to make sure it was wide enough, you could possible look into that if you're getting the drill/tap for the pan.
I was amazed at how many chips a 1/4" of aluminum made after I drilled it (pan off the car), but I wasn't using any grease. I wouldn't do it in the car, but yes, many people have been successful. Maybe find some scraps of aluminum and practice using different techniques so no chips fall on the back side.

dis some searching again... found this...
http://vibrantperformance.com/catalo...oducts_id=1589
http://www.function7.com/products/turboparts
P/N F7T16D (MSRP $26.99)
can some1 confirm that part # they order for the greddy TDO4H flange kit? is TD04H similar to TDO5H?
or
http://www.jgsturbo.com/index2.html
TK139 TD05/GT series Oulet - 1/2" NPT
guess what curly.. waht i found.. some old posts..
"Ok, because you’re a newb and you don’t know any better, I did you a favor and just went out and measured. The hole in the stock Greddy turbo oil drain flange is .593”, and a ½” NPT tap calls for a 45/64 drill, which is around .703” so you could just cut off the pipe, drill it out with a 45/64 drill, and then tap it with the ½” NPT tap. Although, the flange is only 1.006” wide, so you’d only have .1515” on either side once you drilled, which wouldn’t be a whole lot. It could work but it might be too weak, especially once you tried to tighten the fitting into it.
I just have the Greddy flange sitting in my tool box, someday when I’m lazy I might try this, it’d be a free replacement, should anything go wrong with the one I have."
have u ever try?

Uh, not the jgs one, it has the clamp on hose, don't like that. I like the function7 one since it doesn't use an NPT-AN adapter, which gets rid of one potential leak spot. Then you have to source all the hardware though. I guess I'd take the vibrant one, as long as it fits. Remember I'm not sure if it does, it does say to4 though... Ask someone with more brainz...
