Default noob question on tranny

Hi,
i'm not really used to rwd mazda, and i'm trying to figure out a couple of things

first of all, is it possible to use a 1.8 clutch(curently have a FM2 clutch) on a 1.6 tranny? or will i be ''forced'' to go the 1.8 route?

i wanted to install the fm2 clutch and keep the oem tranny,so that i can upgrade the open diff to a torsen.

thanks for ure time

yes about the clutch. Though you'll need a fw too.
not sure about the 1.8 diff/ds to 1.6 trans.
I don't see why not though

Yes, but make sure the 1eight diff and driveshaft you put are from a manual, the auto driveshaft has a different spline and won't work.

I don't know if the sold cars with torsens in autotragics, but I doubt it

You just need a 1.8 flywheel to use the FM2 on your car. Also the trans are the same 90-05. Preferably you want to pick up a 6 speed eventually.

The 1.6 and 1.8 cars used the same 5-speed but different clutch and flywheel sizes. A 1.8 clutch will not work with a 1.6 flywheel and pressure plate because it is larger in diameter. You will need the 1.8 flywheel and PP to match the clutch.

IIRC at some point the synchros were revised or something in the 5speeds.

There were improvements made internally along the way, but all NA and NB transmissions are interchangeable, even the 6 speed.
