Using MegaLogViewer with Adaptronic logs

I thought someone had already mentioned that this could be done but I thought I share how to make the field labels show up properly.

1. Open the Adaptronic datalog in a text editor (notepad works).
2. Replace the first line (it might wrap and make 2) that looks like this:

"Time (s)","RPM","MAP (kPa)",.............,"VVT2Set","VVT2Duty","ExtIn"

with this (notice no quote marks):

Time,RPM,MAP (kPa),TPS (%),MAT (°C),WT (°C),AuxT (°C),AFR,Knock,Idle,MVSS,SVSS,Batt (V),Trim (%),Inj (ms),Ign (°),Wastegate (%),AdvMetric,Gear,VVT1 (°),VVT1Set,VVT1Duty,VVT2 (°),VVT2Set,VVT2Duty,ExtIn

3. Save the file and open it with MegaLogViewer. The labels will now show up correctly.

Turbo, that is awesome. Thanks!

Rafa 04-01-2009 07:11 PM

Well done roach! :bigtu:

y8s 04-01-2009 09:03 PM

tell adap to fix that for the next rev?

ZX-Tex 04-01-2009 10:20 PM

Sweet. I was just thinking today that it would be nice to use Megalogviewer.

sv650_ck 04-04-2009 02:15 PM

I downloaded Megalogviewer from the link on TR's water temp graph but it gives me "Java runtime environment not found" with a download link. Which Java program does it need?

TurboRoach 04-04-2009 02:53 PM

I don't know exactly which one it needs but the page I got it from links you to the Sun download page.

This is the site I downloaded MegaLogViewer from.

The Sun download worked. That's so much better than looking at a spreadsheet. Thanks!

a little awesome for you guys:

Let us know if you find any problems with this.

ZX-Tex 04-28-2009 02:00 PM

SWEET! I had not seen that yet. Kudos to them for implementing it so quickly.

TurboRoach 05-16-2009 03:20 AM

You guys are going to love this!

Here how to make this even better....

Open in a text editor [any of the .properties files will work you just have to select it in Options::FieldNaming (ECU) menu]:

C:\Program Files\MegaSquirt\MegaLogViewer\FieldMaps\MegaSquir t.properties

Change (or add depending on which file you selected):
Time=Time ---> Time=Time (s)

Start you car w/pc attached.
Start logging with one of the new versions of WARI (no " in log).
Open MegalogViewer (if you didn't change the MegaSquirt file, tell it which file to use).
File::Trail Live Feed
Select the log you just started

and....enjoy not having to stair at the tiny fucking WARI live gauges.

I also like to use the 'keep graph centered' option on the view menu. By the time I turn to look at the screen it is right at the center of the graph.

TurboRoach 05-16-2009 03:21 AM

I forgot to add that you can now use the playback feature after doing this.

18psi 05-16-2009 04:00 AM

wow. you guys are making great progress with the adaptronic. Starting next week I am 100% working on the miata again, and will be reading all this. Thanx TurboRoach

ZX-Tex 05-16-2009 09:31 AM

Oh man that is great stuff TurboRoach, thanks!

ZX-Tex 05-17-2009 09:51 PM

Hey I had a problem while trying trail live feed. It will work as expected for about 2-3 minutes, then Megalogviewer will just stop updating. If I start a new log file in WARI, then restart trail live feed in MLV, then it will start working again. But then 2-3 minutes later it stops again. Awesome while it works, but short lived.

Anyone else seen this?

I also got the error message from MLV about ignoring "-" not sure if that is related or not since it did not do it every time it stopped updating. This could also be related to MLV cutting short a static log when it sees a "-" in a field that normally has a numeric value in the Adaptronic log; due to an input glitch or whatever I've seen the Adaptronic occasionally write a "-" instead of a numeric.

TurboRoach 05-18-2009 08:48 PM

I haven't run into that. I'm able to use it for ~1hr straight on my commute. How much memory does your computer have?

Try using the WARI linked in this thread.

I've seen the "-" error but I'm not sure what causes it. Usually when MLV runs across "-" it just puts in NaN (Not a Number) and plots it as the max value.

ZX-Tex 05-19-2009 09:38 AM

OK I installed both of the betas, WARI and firmware, in that thread you linked to, thanks. I'll give it a try again this afternoon.

I also e-mailed Phil Tobin (Megalogviewer author) and asked him about creating a filter, after trying unsuccessfully to implement one myself; I was going to replace all instances of "-" with 0 or something like that. He said it would not work since "-" is a non-numeric. He did say he might be able to try something else and would get back to me.

y8s 05-19-2009 10:04 AM

the adaptronic logging seems to be inconsistent with adding random rows of dashes at the top. I wonder what's up with that.

ZX-Tex 05-19-2009 11:18 AM

yeah not sure. if it was not seemingly locking up MLV I would not care so much.

tried it again with the new vedrsions. same thing. Ill ley yalll know what phil comes back with.

sorry no caps on a pda phone

TurboRoach 05-19-2009 12:13 PM

Try not starting the log until the ecu is powered on. I think that will keep WARI from putting rows of "-" at the beginning of the log. That's how I do it and I've never had any trouble with my logs in MLV. MLV doesn't have an issue with "-" showing up once the log has started.

This is what I do. Never a problem.

ZX-Tex 05-19-2009 01:56 PM

That is what I have been doing. I'll have the ECU on, car running, then start the log, then start MLV live trail.

It is an Eee PC with 2GB ram running XP and a 160 GB HD.

TurboRoach 05-19-2009 04:35 PM

Yates, ZX,
Do you have access to a different USB->Serial?

y8s 05-19-2009 04:50 PM

i'm using a PC-card to serial adapter. I haven't tried the MLV realtime stuff yet.

TurboRoach 05-19-2009 04:53 PM

I just meant to see if the random "-"s go away. If the playback features works then the tail should as well.

y8s 05-19-2009 11:25 PM

did a boatload of "live logging" tonight. works as described. worked for 50 minutes straight. tolerated the car dying and restarting. pretty cool. much easier to use than the adaptronic software's dashboard.

ZX-Tex 05-19-2009 11:29 PM

It must be something going on with my setup then.

Yeah, dieing is OK. (I have lots of experience with that.):hustler: As long as you don't turn the key to off, it will generate one continuous log.

ZX-Tex 05-20-2009 09:29 AM

OK I figured it out. It was indeed a personal problem :giggle:
I had the AFR and lambda sensors checked for the LC-1. No need for that, so I unchecked them both. Also I had tab delimited set (default), so I changed that to comma delimited. Now it works great. I ran a live trail for about 35 minutes, no hiccups.

I am not sure which if the settings caused the problem, but whatever, it is working now.

timk 09-06-2009 09:28 PM

I think this should be a sticky!

neogenesis2004 09-06-2009 09:33 PM

The new versions of WARI have built in compatibility with MLV.

timk 09-06-2009 09:37 PM

Does anyone else get the "Log File contains no data" error?

jeff_man 09-06-2009 10:10 PM

i will see about getting a drag and drop script to replace hearer and - for nan

The only time I get that is if I don't properly stop a log.

timk 09-07-2009 12:33 AM

That was it! Cheers.

I decided to whip said script up this morning:
http://tim.kent.googlepages.com/Adap...gConverter.vbs

Converts log files from Adaptronic so they work in MegaLogViewer without modification to properties file. Also removes any lines without data.

USAGE: Drag and drop Adaptronic log file(s) onto this script, it will write the changes back to the original file(s).

Let me know what you think!

csv files are retaining the "-". i'm planning to replace "-" with "0"

neogenesis2004 09-07-2009 02:19 AM

Whats the purpose of the vbs? I have never had to modify any logs or MLV in order to view a adaptronic pog in MLV.

timk 09-07-2009 02:21 AM

I had some logs where I had switched the car off with the Adaptronic software still running. It was choking on the empty lines.

I'll update the script to replace any instance of "-" with "0", after the empty lines have been removed.

timk 09-07-2009 02:24 AM

Done, new version is 0.2.

neogenesis2004 09-07-2009 02:26 AM

I have some like that as well. MLV will still open them it just doesnt track time properly. Everything still displays ok otherwise. Are you using the newest version of MLV?

timk 09-07-2009 02:32 AM

I'm using v2.958 downloaded today. Yeah, I couldn't play the files or press the key to move to the right, the changes have allowed that.

neogenesis2004 09-07-2009 02:51 AM

Meh, who plays or keys right? I just set it to center and use my mouse :)

TurboRoach 09-07-2009 03:58 AM

The purpose of editing the properties file was to enable live trailing. Its not necessary if you just want to view the logs. I had a few issues that made the live trail very handy.

neogenesis2004 09-07-2009 04:02 AM

True, your tip on the CLT sensor saved me from ruining mine.

cjernigan 04-01-2010 12:57 AM

How's MLV working for everyone these days?

TurboRoach 04-01-2010 03:11 AM

Last time I tried it was working fine, but that was a couple of weeks ago. Is it not behaving for you?

timk 04-01-2010 06:05 AM

It works fine as long as I run my logs through the VB script first.

y8s 04-01-2010 09:55 AM

it opens my stuff natively now.

ZX-Tex 04-01-2010 10:03 AM

Yes last time I used it this was working for me; this was due to Adaptronic changing the formatting of the text to be compatible with MLV as requested. Live feed in MLV works as well.

Really? I didn't try this, nice!

On one of my laptops I cannot open my logs, but on another laptop I can. Not sure why.

Are both laptops running the same version of Java, MLV, and WARI?

dgmorr 04-01-2010 04:49 PM

Yeah, both are running MLV 2.958 and the same version of Wari.

PhantomRoadster 04-01-2010 11:06 PM

This is a newbe question but how do you play your log. Mine says "no time column is found" even if I do select time for one of my graph values? Do you have to register in order to be able to play.
