BMW tps only reading 0 to 2volts in ems

2 Attachment(s)
I wired up a BMW Bosch TPS, which should give me 0 to 5 volts but it only shows up as 0 to 2 volts on the EMS. I want to tune it based on TPS instead of MAP, but 2 volts doesn't give me enough resolution. Accel bounces around too much at steady throttle. Any ideas anyone?

Is it getting 5v?

rotaryjunky 06-15-2015 09:14 AM

Yes, when I measure the voltage at the wire, it is 5Volts. So weird.

rotaryjunky 06-15-2015 09:33 AM

But when I do the wizard. I get like .2 volts closed and 1.97V open.

For reference my car is .35 closed and 2.72 open but this is a stock tps. may i ask why you are going to tps based tuning?

aidandj 06-15-2015 10:57 PM

Because non-tps based tuning sucks? OP, if you have 5 volts before the sensor and its wired correctly then it might be broken? Have you checked to make sure its supposed to output more than 5v? I haven't checked mine in a while so I don't remember.

Thank you for the replies, I appreciate it. After playing around with the tps for a while, we (he) retuned it off map and its actually really good now. Power was always good, just driveability was a little off, and I guess I am picky. The true test will be when my wife drives it to work.

The 5v versus 2v still bugs me though.

it really doesnt matter. As long as 0% throttle is .2 and 100% throttle is 2v. there are plenty of points in between to have resolution. wanna see 5 volts? take the tps off the tb and turn it with a screw driver. i bet you it will turn 1/2 a turn or so and you will hit 5 volts. your tb on the other hand only turns 1/4 a turn. so you will never see 5v.

Awesome. Thank you.
