How many?
I was just wondering how many people are running the AEM EMS.... Once my motor has some miles on it I'm gonna swap mine in... I just wish there was crazy good support for the AEM as there is for the MS.... :bang:

I really like how smoothly my car runs with it but I have never been able to crank the car up in less than 1.5 secs and neither can I make the idle valve compensate properly when the A/C is on. About the idle valve; it's some weird setting for sure. It will start working properly after the car has been running for more than 10 minutes. I thought it was related to the AEM seeing a specific temp range but now I'm not too sure that's the reason. Thanks |

There are others here and elsewhere (mainly the aempower forum) who are more of a wizard than me. I would not consider myself a wizard, but thanks Paul. To the best of my knowledge, the 1.5sec cranking has something to do with the unit itself. It doesn't fire the ignition until a certain # of revolutions, I think it has something to do with the full sequential injection and spart (if you have COPs). I think if you set up a crank wheel with higher resolution it would fire much quicker. Or I could be completely wrong. I can send you my map...PM me sometime to remind me. I don't have a problem with idle with A/C. When I drove Artie's car the other week I was very impressed with how quickly it started (like it "should") and how well it idled. I could fix my idle to be as good as his but it doesn't bother me enough to spend the time. |

I am soon to be an AEM EMS user. I have one I just don't have the wiring installed in my mx-3 yet... hopefully in the next few months... i'll have to bug time for more answers once I get closer to finishing touches on the car. maybe i'll just bribe him into coming out and helping on the car :)

I'm running the AEM EMS with the AEM TwinFire (igniting COPs).
AEM's forum can be a good place for info too, they helped me quite a bit in setting up the Coil On Plug and removing the MAF. |

I didn't want to start a thread just for this question and found this quote from Tim and had to ask: would something like this work for cranking? BrooksTuned I finally decided to spend some time learning about my AEM and trying to set the car to work properly. I have to say I'm finally pretty content with how it's running but; I want to fix the final "issue" with the car and that's the cranking start settings. |
With something like that you'll get Stat Sync'd ON quicker.
The slow part of starting the car with the Miata OEM cam sensor: the pattern is a weird one so it takes few revs until the box recognizes it and the Stat Sync'd turns ON. Once Stat Sync'd is ON the Miata engine starts right away. With a similar wheel and a single pulse cam sync you can get Stat Sync'd quicker. But the better part is that you get 6 times the stock resolution (more accurate spark) I already cut one of the cam sync teeth of my '94 OEM cam sensor and for crank signal I am running an '99 OEM crank wheel. The plan is some day when I have time to cut more teeth into it so it turns into a 12 tooth one :)
