DIY Aero kit - splitters & diffuser
Just wanna share the design of my DIY aero kit. Love the factory sport aero kit on my NB2, don’t wanna remove them not find anything to fit, thus I built these front splitter, side splitters and rear diffuser myself. I did a lot of research for the design , couldn’t prove the functionality without wind-tuned but at least gain some visual points :)
It’s made of Aluminum Composite Panel, no glue or L-bracket used. All panels are screwed to gather with some special order SS screws, and chassis mounted to the frame/body as much as possible. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...3c0945d33.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...4d76188ad.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...5322b96e4.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...18b2b1c91.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...d6eda3548.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...7a6ce2a4b.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...f549245e7.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...19299a52f.jpeg |
Loving that rear diffuser.... Is that center section off the shelf? Would love to recreate on my setup with the large Tupperware rears.

Looks good. Not sure about the steep diffuser angle but looks clean.
Where did the front canards come from? Never seen any that subtle for an NB. Between rear wing, side skirts and diffuser, don't you need a "whole bunch" more splitter? |
Love how clean that looks!

Looks really cool, I'd be interested to hear initial impressions/data on how effective the setup is.
If you don't mind, could you show a few more pictures on how you attached the side skirts and rear diffuser specifically? Is that an oil cooler being fed by the air under your front diffuser or a trans cooler? |
A flat bottom would go perfect with this. I really want to see someone build a double deck diffuser using naca ducts on the flat bottom and utilizing a bumper cut under the license plate area or something to accommodate the airflow from the double deck. Maybe you're the guy!

David - Do you have any examples or pictures of what you are referring to?

The old F1 double diffusers were a clever way of getting around the rules. The key was two air inlets, the intent of the rules was to limit the size of the area at the end of the flat bottom and the front of the diffuser. A "hidden" air inlet fed a diffuser above the the legal one. If the inlet area wasn't limited the designers would have just had a single larger diffuser.
I know of no reason a double diffuser would help a Miata. |

Tell that to Danh Tranh. They are showing up more and more on WTAC cars. |
Can you please elaborate on how you made everything? I am blown away at how good that splitter and diffuser look. That is gorgeous for diy!!!

Overrev has answers to these questions above in his previous, recent thread.
