Default Billet Oil Pump Gears

I'm making this post to accomodate people who got stuck with gears they cannot use due to some problems with not knowing which gears go with which engines.

Some Escorts/Proteges

Some Escorts/Proteges have a smaller diameter pump on some motors. It is not clear which motors this effects. There is a possibility that these motors are the short nose crank version. I'm not sure, but I will probably not offer that size pump until the CMM machine gets fixed at the shop I work with.

Miata long nose oil pumps
Miata long nose oil pumps are the same from 1991.5 until 2000 and these are the vehicles that the gears fit. If you are in this range no worries.

The VVT years 2001-2005
The VVT years of 2001-2005 are physically thicker.

If you have an oil pump gear gripe that relates to it not fitting your vehicle please post here so we can get to the bottom of it.

The 2001-2005 gears are coming soon so I can simply swap you for if you bought the gears and have these years.

If you have an escort/protege year that it does not fit, post here. Instead of selling a new gear I'll "sell" yours and get you out from underneath your paper weight.

Hope this helps clear things up.

Does the 1999 motor fall in with the rest of the long nose? I have a set of your gears that I'm planning on installing.

I really don't know. I think it should be the same as the 91.5-2000 years, because the motor is already setup for turbo stock. This motor w or w/o turbo has oil squiters, and more extra pump capacity then atleast some of the motors that preceded it, but the only way to find out would be to pluck it and measure.

If you need the 01 gears and have the older set go ahead and send them back to me to the return address. If you don't have the address just PM and I'll get it taken care of.

So where are we at with the 2001 gears? I've shipped my old gears back and haven't heard anything.

They came in today, the big thing is, we made them based on a very warn oil pump housing. So I'm a bit apprehensive about sending this out. They fit the warn housing but I don't know about a new one. So y8's is sending me his, so we have more notes to compare. I ran seventeen of these, so if they do end up fitting y8's housing these will all go out(and we'll shortly know what fits in what).

oh snap. you're all waiting for me and my spare motor is under wraps. and it's cold out.

since I haven't looked at it yet, can the pump come off without taking the oil pan off? I dont have an engine stand, so it's a little awkward to pull the pan.

I couldn't get it off without taking the pan off... I tried, and now I have a bent oil pan.

Question: Is there a gasket between the pump body and the block? Mazda does not list one, and I can't remember if there was one present or not.

I do remember one O-ring in a recess on the pump.

All my housings are at the cnc shop, but the whole o-ring I remember that you should have is on the nose of the crank where it engauges the crankshaft.
