Default 1995 Hole In Block?

Hi,

I am new to this sight and have a question about my miatas block.

I am in the process of rebuilding the motor and when I took it apart a noticed a rather large hole near the #4 cylinder oil squirter. I didn't notice any large chunks of metal fall out or see any other damage besides the hole. I have seen some other pictures of this same hole but I don't know if it is supposed to be there if it is a common fail point. Is this supposed to be there or does this mean that my motor is ruined? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I posted about this before, and many others.
Casting ugliness...nothing to worry about.

That's an oil drain hole.

Don't feel bad, it happened to the best of us.

I had the exact same reaction when I tore my perfectly fine running 28K '04 down. Was about freaking out till I did some google searching and saw a lot of pics of the same rough hole in the casting.
