Well it would be easy to intercool if I really wanted to but I am not going to. I installed a prosport dual air temp gauge so I will be able to see what temps are coming out of the turbo and into the throttle body. If temps are too high I will have to install one. I can say this though I am spraying 30% methanol so there is a lot of meth going thru the intake. On a warm day the intake gets so cold it get dew all over the outside so I am assuming at this point my IAT's are fine. We will see.

In for results.

I ask this because of the recent posts by hornetball and richyvrlimited saying m/i doesn't cool the charge basically, and both those guys know what they're talking about when it comes to liquid charge cooling

thenuge26 01-23-2014 12:53 PM

Yeah from what I understand the meth raises the octane and the water prevents det. Heat transfer takes time, and when you're flowing >400hp worth of air through a few feet of pipe it doesn't get much time.

Sean 01-24-2014 07:22 AM

Well for starters I'm running 100% methanol no water . I an not sure if it's the added fuel or the cooling effect or both that is helping me. I can tell you the car is much faster with methanol you can feel the stuff hit like nitrous lol. I have no way to see or log IAT's until the new gauge is installed this will tell me a lot about what's going on. I will be letting you all know what my findings are.

Diffuser won't do much for you, FYI. Not that you really need it with that rear wing...
The diffuser needs to be low, almost sealed to the ground to have much effect. The low pressure area is quickly filled from the sides otherwise. I noticed a big difference just by adding the 1/4" rub strips on mine. The horizontal extensions also helped by reducing the impact the tires have on the airflow. Diffusers are awesome... Downforce without drag. However, they only work if your able to isolate the airflow and utilize the low pressure area they create.

The diffuser is only slightly functional I like the way it looks and adds to the overall look of the car. Also my charge pipe is all welded up and fits perfect and looks great. It is very cold at the moment and my car is at a freinds house due to not getting it home in the snow with slicks.lol It fits perfect and is very close in multiple spots but has at least 1/8" clearance from the belts the frame rail and the radiator hose. Here are some pics I am waiting on my vacuum fittings to come in and then I will be putting it all together then. Should be next week. Oh and I threw in a few pics of the 26X8.5's because I like them soo much.

I love this pic looks great!!!!

I didn't realize the tuckin99 NA flares went all the way down in the front.

I understand that my rear diffuser is not working to make a negative pressure area under the car. I guess you have to think of it more like this. My car is not a track car and it is not a drag car or an autocross car it is to the bone a street car. A street car is different to many people. I find that most people build their car to have fun with the people they are around the most. All of my friends are drag racers. Street races on the weekends are drag races. My car will go down the drag strip once or twice just to see how fast it goes. Other than that it is a pure pleasure car. I enjoy it for what it is. Beating vettes down the highway. Chances are it may see one autocross and one day at the track at summit point and will never see a drift track. I built the diffuser to get rid of the huge sail the rear bumper makes at speed it does its job as it was intended. I cannot run the diffuser very close to the ground because even with 400lb. springs in the back the car squats very very hard and will even drag the rear subframe so I raised the back about an inch. I don't want to sound negative by any means because I love peoples in put but for me the rear diffuser does two things gets rid of the air scooping rear bumper and adds to the general look of the car I like the way it looks. It does not bother me that it does not function as a regular rear diffuser because it is not a regular miata or rear diffuser. If I was building a track car I would have placed it closer to the ground and as level with the ground as possible. By no means am I an expert on aero dynamics. All I can say is with my front splitter and wing the car is perfectly stable at 160mph. Previous to these mods the car was not I just don't want to die at speed and I have achieved such this far. It is there more for aesthetics more than anything else. To me it just looks right on the car. I could have gone for a long plate with holes in it and just trimmed the bottom of the bumper but I don't really like the way that looks so this works for my purposes.

On that note I don't want you to think I don't want input all input is good input in my opinion but I always have to take into consideration what I do with my car versus how parts are installed I wish I could build the car to be the ultimate street tract and autocross car I just dont have the funds to do all the suspension and mods needed for that. I have seen your build thread and judging by your experince your input is very good and I will take all I can get!!!

NB2j 01-31-2014 01:05 AM

this is one awesome build i came across it months ago and have read it over and over wishing i could do it but never had the balls but after blowing 2 miata motors in a month i gave up on the BP and found me a NA 2jzge vvti and i am now installing in if it wasn't for your build i wouldn't have thought it was possible keep it up man ill be reading this thread till you no longer update it

If you can't keep a BP together, a 2JZ swap might be going in the wrong direction.

Here are the pics of all the nice powder coated parts. Car runs good on 20psi currently but needs some tuning its going lean above 5k. The Hoosiers get great traction compared to my old crappy tires that was to be expected I cant wait to see what they do when the weather gets better. I would like to add that the tial BOV sounds amazing.
Got the car home sunday afternoon and it snowed sunday night I wish it would just warm up a little bit.

is the paint a tribute to the glorious Faelflora?

looks cool though

Sean 02-04-2014 10:28 AM

No I went around and around on paint color for under the hood. I am going to be painting the car gunmetal grey later this year so I needed something that would go well with that. I had it down to burnt orange or the purple. I am not normally a big fan of purple but I think it works well.
