I will most likely put some kind of vent on the top of the bump but the major reason the bump is there is to clear the engine.

Hey Sean, just starting my 2jz-gte swap (car is currently torn down and 2j drivetrain is standing by for mounts and such to be fabricated). I was wondering if there was any modifications you had to do to the steering column/rack? Not sure if this was already addressed but didn't see it when I glanced through the build, any info would be much appreciated.

Drew.

Drew,

Good luck on your build if you need any help I will give you any information I can. As far as the steering rack and column I did not modify it at all. I found it easier to leave the motor sitting higher and leave the steering rack in the stock location. I had to modify the lower oil pan by cutting a notch in it but it was not too bad at all. I will see if I can find a pic and post it again.

Ok I am out in texas for work for the next few weeks. I managed to finish all the parts needed for my new intake manifold before I left. The manifold is at the welder's and I hope it will be done when I get back. I also have all my parts to switch to GTE electronics and I will be doing that as soon as I get back. This should make it very easy to tune the car and all I will really need to do is a injector calibration and I should be good to go. I will keep you all updated as things go along.

Ok so it has been a long time since I have been on here I have been going insane with work but will have about a month break coming up in a week. Quick update. My new intake manifold is almost done, I have all my new electronics to do my GTE electrics swap that will be happening in a about three weeks and I have pretty much enough parts to keep me busy for a while. I want to get the FD seats mounted, finished all my gauges and they all work, finish tucking wires in engine bay almost done ( just the lighting wires I like to be able to work on my engine harnes) Finish all vacuum line install and mount fenders, bumper front splitter and start working on a hood. This should give me enough to do for a while but fist concern is getting it running good with the new electronics.

On another note I have been thinking about my gauges for a while now. When I installed the new tach it works and looks great. One problem. Now the tach does not match the rest of the car. I have managed to get all the factory gauges working and I intend for them to look right as well. With some help from the revlimiter website I designed new gauges to match my tach. Simple but effective. As soon as I get back home I am going to make them and install them. Let me know what you guys think.

For comparison here is a pic of my cluster with the tach installed.

I tired to make them simple and get rid of anything I did not need like the KPH and stuff like that.

Looks good. I like the attention to detail. You going to match up the back-lighting color too?

Yes I am going to do my best to match all the back lighting I wanna keep the factory green look I am sure I will have to play with some leds and such to keep it that way. I am also going to order the small plastic piece from Revlimiter that moves the head lights moving light and the air bag light to the center of the dash instead of in the tach.

I know I may be resurrecting this thread a bit as it has been months without an update, but I am trying to get as much info as I can about this swap. I've read every page of this build and I love it so I want to try. Sean, I'm wondering if you have dimensions for your mounts and what tips you would have for someone else doing this... I dont intend to turbo mine and I've already got the engine, transmission, ecu, and full wiring harness from a Lexus sc300, I would have PM'd but I havent posted enough in the forums for that apparently.

Sean 04-02-2013 08:43 AM

Well resurrecting may be true but I am still working on the car. I have not been able to do any work to it in months due to being out of the country and working to keep my other cars complete and working. I am at a stand still until my welder gets done with my intake manifold witch I have not idea how long that is going to take it has been two months already but to be honest it has been nice not having it because i cant work on the car without it.

jreidOKC;996606 - I will help you as much as I can with what ever questions you have and I can also give you some insite on what to do and what not to do. If you have a full sc300 pullout you have a good start. If you are going to go turbo I will tell you know buy the following items and use a GTE ecu to start with it will save you tons and tons of time and money down the road and headaches. JDM 2JZGTE ecu, IS300 coils or GTE coils, Corresponding igniter IS300 or GTE, GTE map sensor, GM IAT sensor, 440cc injectors. Use the non turbo harness and convert it to GTE ecu there are only a few wires that need to be moved around and depending on what coils you use you will either need to add 3 wires from the ecu to the engine or 6. I have tried everythign to get the car to run correctly on the GE ecu and it is not worth the time spent. With the GTE ecu it gets rid of tons of problems. Another time saver if you have the cash to spend is send your harness to DR. Tweak and have him convert it. I did mine it was not that hard but if you are not comfortable doing it and want it to just be done send it to him he can convert it to a gte harness and make it stand alone for around $900 he will say $500 but dont belive it. It will be $900-$1100 that is what they always turn out to be.

As far as the engine mounts go I do not have any measurements of them but I can take some pictures of them I am sure that will help. They are very simple and they are solid mounts. I was worried about them being too stiff but I have to say the engine is very smooth even on solid mounts.

Also how much HP are you trying to make. This will make a big difference in how you want to set things up and what you should have for the build. If you are looking for no more than 450 whp then all you will need is an SAFC if you want more I would suggest stand alone ecu AEM or megasquirt. AEM in this case is better only because there is a lot of support for it for the supra.

I hope this helps some if you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

Well for now I am just going to run everything stock, I may turbo down the road, but for me the main priority is getting it in and running

Sean 04-02-2013 08:46 PM

Message me for my number if you need help.

jreidOKC 04-02-2013 08:56 PM

Lol, the way I've been seeing things, making an all stock 2jz run in my car should be a piece of cake compared to this build, and between the help here and at the Toyota dealership I work at this wont be impossible

Sean 04-02-2013 09:03 PM

It's not hard to get the stock 2j to run its something like 9 wires you need. Are you running a 5 speed or an auto

jreidOKC 04-02-2013 09:12 PM

Unfortunately I will be running an auto until I find an affordable manual

Ok so after a whole year of basically not working on my car work has slowed down and I have started again. I finally finished my new intake manifold. I need to remake my oil feed line and charge pipe and I will be doing my GTE ecu swap I hope this week thru the weekend depends on how much time I get during the week. If all goes well the car will be up and running in a week. Below are the pics of my new intake being made and on the car. It fits great sits nice and low and looks awesome.

I did not take any pics when I did it but I need to do another one so I will take pics then. I was able to successfully shorten the stock throttle cable all the way down to about 17" so now the car still uses a stock cable just modified. It looks great only problem was I broke the clips on the part that goes into the firewall. Also before anyone says anything you can see the car was pretty dirty when I was doing the mock up but I cleaned it all before installing the manifold. I hate it when the car sits for a year. Every little nook and cranny gets dirty.
