'95 NA8 - Rotrex build!

Intro thread with pictures: https://www.miataturbo.net/meet-gree...drifter-76392/

I've finally added some decent go-fast-parts, so I think I'm almost worthy of posting a build thread. :loser:

Mazda MX-5 1995 1.8
- Kraftwerks Rotrex kit
- Racing Beat header
- Racing beat midpipe & exhaust
- Blackbird Fabworx 4-point rollbar with harness bar
- Sparco Sprint bucket seat
- APR Performance carbon F1 mirrors
- Carbon headlight lid with NACA duct
- Stance Emotion 15x8 ET25
- Stance GR+ coilovers (not installed)
- Original brown radiator
- Rust, lots of it, everywhere
- RyokoRob tow hooks
- Various rare JDM interior parts for internetcredz

I ordered the revised KraftWerks kit early in 2014, but there's been several hiccups along the way. First of, KW forgot to include the injector clips in the package. When I first got them, it wasn't the PnP clips as promised. I had to buy tools and do the soldering myself. I am by no means a mechanic, but I do at least pride myself on doing all the work by myself. Intensive google-ing and this site amongst others, helped me a lot!

The most frustrating thing with this install however, was the ridiculous amount of bolts snapping due to excessive rust everywhere. I truly wish I lived in a sunny place like Cali!
I lost most of my motivation half way through the install.

This little thing is partly to blame:

When I had regained some of the lost motivation, I got slapped in the face. The Blackbird Fabworx rollbar had to be removed in order to fit the DW200 fuel pump. The harness bar barely blocked for removal of the original fuel pump. :vash:

I said f*ck it and rode the bike all summer.

I just recently finished the Rotrex install. I had some issues with the belt tensioning at first, but it seems to be alright now. The car uses an awful amount of fuel however. An MSPnP from Reverant is definitely on my shopping list in the near future.

The KW Rotrex-kit is by all means driveable, but it seems to be some huge gains to be made simply by switching to a standalone ECU + proper tuning.

The replica Work-wheels will be put up for sale in a couple of months, I've been drooling at 6UL's for many years already.

Parts from a '99 that still remains to be installed:

Hopefully when I'm "done" with this build, this will be a good description of it:
- Quick, solid & agile with various added aero, but with a vintage & somewhat luxurious interior & exterior.

Euro plates look so much cooler.

whats the aero plans?

experienced drifter.. does that mean you're good at sleeping on couches?

Funny you should say that. In Europe we switch to US spec license plates, because jdm & mount them like they do in Japan. Random example picture:

Regarding aero, I've followed ThePass' build for a while. It looks f'ckin amazing, but it seems to be far more complicated than what my fabrication skills are capable of. To begin with, I'll get a splitter and try to figure out a clever & solid way to attach an APR GTC-200 wing.

Haha, no way. The whole thing was just a joke, I've never actually drifted. Let alone drifted a car.
There was a time (still is?) when heaps of so called drifters introduced themselves in the intro-section. They got bashed & eggplanted simultaneously, so I figured it would be fun to use that title to get some attention.

Figured I'd post what I started out with when I bought the car back in 2011:

It's gone through some major changes, to the better imo. I quickly got rid of the horrid style bar, OEM luggage rack, power mirrors, the god awful wheels, fake wood trim and the enormous MOMO airbag steering wheel.

The interior looked like this for a while, but it's going through some changes atm. I'll update with pictures when it's complete. ;)

The lower brake light. Why is it not centered?

It isn't a brake light. It's actually a foglight. Due to some European laws, cars are required to have a rear foglight in some countries.

I don't know who installed it, probably the dealer or the importer. Why they haven't centered it? Probably laziness, they didn't care, or most likely a combination of both.

This car was imported from Switzerland in the early 2000's. Where I live however, it's not required to have a foglight. It'll be removed or be exchanged with an Eunos Roadster foglight I've had laying around for ages. Because JDM racecar. :giggle:

This pretty little thing:

Haha, I figured the joke had outplayed its part by now. It's time for a more descriptive and serious build thread!

Changed spark plugs & ignition leads at ~157250 KM.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1416141816

I chose Magnecor 8.5mm competition ignition leads and NGK BKR7E-11 spark plugs. Experienced a noticeable difference. Bear in mind the old ones had been mounted in the engine for 3-4 years.

Sadly I didn't get to do much driving this year. The car is being put away for the winter pretty soon.

Note to self:
*To do list during winter/spring.*

- Change brake fluid and rotors/pads at the front.
- Change coolant and mount new rad.
- Change fuelfilter.
- Change valve cover gasket and paint the VC.
- Change oil filler cap and dip stick handle.
- Change CAS o-ring.
- Get the front bumper to fit properly and mount splitter.
- Change the oil on the differential.
- Change gauges.
