The bottom is still pretty frankinstiened but this is the only time it will show

Feel free to change my title to MK omega test since I will be trying the final variation of the turbo soon.

OK I lied, looks like my foofy alcantara steering wheel is on hold. Although I love the slob ****.

I got some fureal **** to do. According to my tracking information my 4 port boost solenoid should show up tomorrow. I am thinking of trying out the solenoid before this, just to see if I can squeeze a bit more out up top on the small compressor.

Looks nice, no need to plug the hole on the compressor outlet this time

OK, I lied again, my turbo arrived early and my solenoid is late. I am going to stop saying what I am going to do and only state what I have done.
I went from this

To this

I didn't port the wastegate this time.
My initial impression is very nice, I certainly don't have to downshift to pass fools uphill in 5th. I didn't push it too hard since it was my first log driving to Christmas dinner in SF last night.
It did creep to about 13psi around 5600 but that is well below my target boost in that range. I need to adjust some things a bit although it drove well on the smaller turbo tune.
I will post some logs when I get everything sorted out and can do a nice flat 4th gear spool.

Uh oh, fail!
This is completely due to the loose nut behind the wheel. I stripped one of the bolts that pass through the compressor housing and should have just fixed it then. I developed a boost leak on a 3rd gear pull and it sounded pretty strange.
I figured I better check out that bolt but it looks like the wheel made contact with the housing. Then I noticed a ton of radial shaft play. It's toast. Wondering if I should rebuild it or just get another for $150.

More images of turbo carnage

Not too bad, maybe I can clean it up and slap some new bearings in there. I guess I would need to balance it too, $150 doesn't sound too bad. I think that's why I wasn't as careful as usual when I over tightened the bolt that stripped, this thing was too cheap.

Replacement is on it's way. I am changing my oil and filter even though it is less than 1k old. Scared of dissolved bearings in my oil or clogging my filter, maybe I am just paranoid.

Don't worry, this time I won't rush it. I will treat it like a Garrett or EFR unit instead of like the cheap junk that it is.

OK OK.

I just meant I shouldn't have rushed my wastegate can bracket and I wouldn't have even messed this one up. Not even an expensive mistake.

Don't worry I plan to beat the crap out of it once I get it working properly. As usual.
20psi at redline or bust

Actually this turbo was very nice before I wasted it.

Maybe I will score a rebuild kit, sand the housing smooth, file the blades clean and balance it on an RC balance rig.
You know when I am bored

Been playing with the small turbo and the 2 port wastegate can while I wait for medium replacement. Unfortunately it seems that the 2nd port on the cheap can leaks out the actuator rod
Seriously!

I am looking at a fancy Oz made actuator like Aidan got but it's more than my turbo. Maybe I can clamp a piece of inner tube between the can and bracket to help seal the rod.
Anyone successfully sealed one of these cheap wastegate cans before?

Well I might as well start with this one
Super hooptie hoe made dual port can (don't try this at home kids) with sealed actuator rod.

Yes it still opens.
We will see if this works, I don't have high hopes.

Still leaked a little, turns out the bolts are just held in place by the spring. 2 double o rings and it holds 20psi, so I made the fitting slightly more permanent

Maybe I can make the real dual port can seal up now too.

Drive down to Salinas and pick up the one @EO2K has. I think it's off some OEM car and supposedly doesn't leak.
