I call bull ****. Car started way too easy for a first start, plus it's on the ground with the wheels on, ready for a drive. I think you already knew it started.

congrats!!!!

I also suspected that wasn't the "real" first start based on how cleanly it sprang to life

It actually wasn't much different on the first start. I didn't want to video it and jynx it. But it popped right to life and then died. Turns out I had idle VE on and it was tuned all sorts of fucky. But it runs good.

The good:
Put 100 miles on it. All backroads. Lots of fast driving. Damn I missed this car.
EFR with a wastegate wired open makes ZERO boost. None. All the way up to 7500 rpm.
It pulls real good for no positive pressure.
Pulls stupid amount of vacuum compared to the old 1.6. Idle is like 16-19kpa, pulls down to like 10-13kpa on high rpm lifts.
Racepak is AWESOME. Love just swapping through the pages when I need to see something.
EGT and trans temp are also cool.

The bad:
Something is fucked with the coolant sensor. Had to turn off all temperature corrections for all the tuning I did today.
There is a weird noise. Thats totally random. Buzzy kind of. But I can't figure out what its connected to. Its rpm independent. Sometimes goes away when the clutch is pushed in, sometimes doesn't. Don't know where its coming from.

Oh man I missed driving this. it revs SOOO fast. Cannot wait for boost.

I turned VVT off for initial tuning. I'm going to try and enable it and play around with it tonight.

I think the sensor is fine. It seems intermittent. Going to try rewiring it first.

Possibly. But it's a 2 wire sensor so it shouldn't matter.

Congratulations!

Is the buzzing perhaps from the hydraulic clutch line behind the intake manifold? Since it goes away sometimes stepping on the clutch.

Congrats on getting it running! Looking good. Question, what RPM are you idling at to have 16-19kPa?

Don't really have idle even tuned. I'm seeing it in idle transitions.

Found some oil leaks. One might be related to this:
https://www.miataturbo.net/engine-pe...-inside-93037/

So probably will replace the front seal with OEM.

And then hoping the other one is just loose oil cooler lines. But might be the pan. Well see.

Trans is also leaking. But whatever, I'm not pulling that apart.
