Hnnnngh.
Advanti S1 Grey 15x9" 12lbs each. 205/50R15 R7 I've never experienced sticker Hoosiers before... only 10+ heat cycle ones that I've still managed to set track records with. Now to just keep winning them hopefully... https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1440823555 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1440823555 |

Crunch time for race weekend.
Got the dash trimmed up to fit around the roll cage and removed the metal bar that normally goes behind it. Haven't done final install yet because roll cage needed some paint. It's been raining like crazy here the past couple weeks so the roll cage had a decent amount of surface rust already. Sanded it all off and shot the whole thing gloss white. I like the blue better but don't have time to tape everything off to do that right now, the interior is mostly painted this same gloss white so I can just rattle can all of the things and it looks halfway decent. Also got most of the required master cutoff switch installed. Got the big wires run, I tapped into the positive cable that runs along the PPF to make the run up to the kill switch. It's a 4 connector model, so the two smaller poles I am going to run the +12v ignition wire off the ECU through it so when I flip it, battery gets disconnected and ignition cut prevents the motor from running off of alternator power. I also put a 300 amp inline fuse in where I made the connection to the wire coming from the back of the car. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1441086271 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1441086271 |
Are you doing a plexi windshield, or is the glass going back in?

If the car gains say 80 pounds from adding all that stuff for a net change of +40 pounds that would be perfect. I'd be able to run the car to near empty on fuel and still make weight. I like looking through glass better anyways. Hard top window is plexi though. |

Stuff is going back together. Got everything plugged back in and the battery cable part of the kill switch wired. The car functions and fires up still so that's good. There's so many connectors on the harness that I'm not using that I was getting stressed out about possibly fucking up and it wouldn't start.
That stupid power cutout at WOT issue I am having, I think I might have found it. The ground wire pack on top of the gas tank hump on the rear shelf was so loose that it was just flopping around. I don't know exactly what those grounds are for but I have been chasing this issue for so long that I hope this is it. All of the non-mechanical gauges on my dash always bounce around and shit too. Would be super rad if all that garbage went away. Windshield is in Kill switch wired Dash is trimmed and installed Car fires up Tires are mounted on new wheels Cage is painted Dead pedal has been modified to fit Pedal assemblies are in Clutch pedal arm modified (bent) a little for foot clearance Still a lot to do, trying to leave for the event (3 hour drive) around noon on Friday. So my dad and I were able to scramble and get the car mostly done. We hit the road on Friday and halfway through the 3.5 hour drive, it started to get really overcast with an almost constant drizzle. We got the track when it was dark, couldn't really setup camp or work on the car to finish it since we didn't have a pop up tent to keep water out of the car.
It stopped raining at about 7:30 in the morning, we missed our first session but managed to finish installing the hard top, fire extinguishers, right side nets, new stickers for classing and contingency, changed wheels, and finished buttoning up the car. Weather was awesome for the rest of the weekend, the track had dried out by about mid day on Saturday. Was a much needed escape from the 110+ degree heat here in the Phx area. You could say that the weekend went pretty well. Pictures/videos/story time coming soon. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1441641839 |

Yeah there were 7 cars registered in class, 5 cars made it to the first qualy race on Saturday, then one more car broke before the main race on Saturday then there were only 4 cars running the rest of the weekend. Didn't meet the 5 car minimum for contingency so no tires this weekend... I did win a coupon for $100 off my next event registration though. You get one of those if you win the Sunday feature race and also participated in the Saturday main race.

Here's the first video for now. Saturday qualifying race. My dad got 2nd place in open qualifying so I started in position 2 out of 5 people. That yellow mustang in the beginning that is next to me is the fastest car on the track, has a crazy NASCAR motor in it.
This was my first time driving the car at the event so took me a little to get warmed up after all the big changes. |
Nice job! Congrats!

Here is the Sunday Qualifying Race. GoPro unfortunately didn't capture the Saturday Main Race, hit the record button before it was finished booting up so it didn't start recording. Much tougher than the Saturday one, the RX-7 seemed to be defending the inside lines much better that I used to get around him in the Saturday Qualy and Main races. I never thought that a power difference like that would make it that tough to pass even when I can crank out laps that are consistently like 3-5 seconds quicker. |
Next ASR event is on the 26th.

Also here's the final video I have. Sunday Main Feature Race. Finally put a block on the red RX-7 at the beginning using my one allowed lane change and luckily gapped him enough on the first lap that he wasn't close enough to drag race me down the straight. Sucks that there wasn't enough people in the races for Hoosier contingency but at least in this race I won a $100 voucher that I can use towards my next event registration. |
That's really cool that you guys do a father-son thing. Many years from now, you're going to be really happy you spent this time with your pop.
PS: He's letting you win. haha. |

PS: He's letting you win. haha. Also that's what he tells me as well hahaha. He actually came up to a decent pace way faster than I did. I wouldn't be surprised if he was able to match my times soon, he's less than a second away from me at the local tracks. |
