So here's some more pics of the built engine. I'll get photos of the other motor once I tear into it. Cylinder 2 has the worst score mark, one single one running the length of the cylinder that you can catch a nail on. All the others are pretty smooth to the touch. Looks like there is one big nick on piston #3, and a few small ones. It was the cleanest of the pistons and I cleaned it up a little more with an oily rag to show the nick.
There's also a few more pics on my album:

It's not too bad. Just that hole in the exhaust valve. I may sell the head, or just part the whole thing, or keep it...I haven't really decided yet.
If there's something specific you want, PM me an offer, I'd consider it.

So what exactly does the det damage look like? Not sure what I'm looking for.
Any opinions on if it's worth repairing the head? Would you consider anything from this motor salvageable?
And Center cap was FM's thing ten years ago I guess...

Ok...so I googled it and found a few decent pics of mild det, then got led back here:

I guess I was looking for more catastrophic damage...

The top of the piston should be completely uniform in finish - in your pictures, at the edges of the piston near the valve relief, the finish gets rough and changes in color. That's the detonation damage - it's mild but it's definitely there. We can't see the ringlands, but I bet the same style of damage is on those as well (or worse).
I bet the head is salvageable, though. You might want to take it to a local machinist and have him take a look. Or you can send it up to us and we can have our guy go through it and refresh it - new guides, 3-angle seats, etc.

More pictures...because everybody loves pictures.
Some pics of the head:
Here's what the crank looks like, some scoring.
Rods:
And just thought I'd share this tip. Harbor Freight sells these cheap, and they're great for storing fastners from stuff you're taking apart.
I use this stuff to clean up some of my small parts and hardware, but it will strip plating from bolts if you leave them in too long.

Just got 4 of these from Trackspeed in the mail:
Tomorrow I'm taking these, the Carrillo rods from the FM motor, and the '00 head and block down to a machine shop. I'm going to have to use the crank from the 95, the keyway in the '00 crank was messed up making it unusable. It looks like a botched timing belt job is what caused that motor's demise.
Still need to order the BE oil pump, I'm bummed I missed the GB.
Hopefully in a couple weeks I'll have new built motor pics to share.

Yeah, I was surprised. I'm having it done at Eddings Engine They also quoted me $300 to do the valves on the '00 Head, more if it needs any parts replaced.
I think I'm going to just have them assemble it too. I haven't talked to them about that yet though.

Haven't updated in a while, not much progress on the car. I got my engine from the machine shop a few weeks ago, but life and work have got in the way of working on it. It's ok though, I needed a break, and I've been playing with something new...
Here's the engine while test fitting and picking oil drain location. I had AN bungs welded onto the valve cover and oil pan.
My girlfriend's new car is what has really been taking up my free time though...

(but it does have a turbo)
