Im a virgin to turbo engines so ease it in slowly :noob:

I've pretty mch spent a month researching and im reading corky bells book after seeing all the recommendations

My list includes the following

Garrett t25. Obtained
Hoping to save up for an Artech main and down pipe
Wb02
Braided lines
IAT
Knock sensor
I have a n uprated clutch..

rhysmate 03-20-2012 02:27 PM

ill throw up a picture of the car as it stands tomorrow....

Nice work Rhys!

Just curious which clutch you are using?

sixshooter 04-26-2012 02:12 PM

Are you going to rebuild the engine? Why did you remove it?

rhysmate 04-26-2012 05:38 PM

The engine has almost 200,000 miles on it.. I got another eunos engine off my mate with only 60,000 miles on it so just gonna use that.. same year and spec as mine just alot more fresh.. im using an f1 stage 2 clutch

Looks like a good parts list, only thing is I would go with a more proven clutch: ACT or FM in particular. Don't want to have to replace that sucker after all this work.

rhysmate 05-24-2012 09:15 AM

I agree with you completely.. I dont like the clutch really but it might have to do for a while.. I shouldnt have bothered getting it in the first place but ill have to see how funds are after i get my injectors.. Which is actually something i have no idea about.. Is it a case of the biggr the better or is there a fine balance there..

rhysmate 05-24-2012 09:19 AM

Another thing i never highlighted properly was the reason the old engine is being changed.. Apart from it being ridulously high mileage wise it was also a short nose crank version. The new one is a long nose

Miater 05-24-2012 02:20 PM

That clutch has been proven time and again by many people on this forum and many others too.

As for injectors, go big and never look back.

soviet 05-24-2012 03:33 PM

With injectors the size is not the only specification that matters. Injector technology matters, and you want the newest tech.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1337888037

Miata/RX7 injectors are EV1 (1976 design, yo!)
RX8/Deatschwerks are EV6
Injector Dynamics are EV14

If you only want to buy injectors once, go with Injector Dynamics ID1000.

I've had alot oof mixed opinions but the proof is in the pudding so good news there cheers ...

What kind of money is a reasonable amount for injectors new or used.. imcoukd probably get 250 dollars together for a set delivered if anyone has them..

Are the id1000 a plug and play with the mx5

Not a bad deal at all! Keep up the good work. Did the crank seal take long to change? Would it be much more difficult to change it with the engine still in the car?

it took about ten minutes.. i put a screw driver into the edge with some tape on it and it popped right out.. putting a new one in took a bit longer as it took a while to ensure it was in 100% straight and seated correctly.. id say the tough thing is taking off the gearbox with the engine in.. but not impossible

I've been following this as well. Just because we don't have anything significant enough to offer a post doesn't mean we don't pay attention to your updates. I try not to clutter up people's build threads with empty posts.

We enjoy pictures of how others are doing their builds because everyone does things a little bit differently. I pick up better ideas to incorporate into my build quite often.

Thanks man!! i understand...

i want to start tuning it soon.. my only problem is there is no one within 300 miles that knows how to tune mega squirt.. it just isn't the done thing in Ireland.. So i'm worried ill blow my engine up! I've read in the manuals that all you have to change is the Fuel and ignition tables?

i want to start at 5psi to get the feel for it as thats as low as the waste gate is supposed to work at. i still havent bought injectors, im running the standard blue tops. are they adequate for 5psi?

sixshooter 01-13-2013 01:36 PM

Start tuning with the wastegate arm disconnected so the flapper stays open initially. You will likely still see a couple of positive pounds at full throttle still.

Use the overboost protection feature of the MS to protect yourself from running out of fuel. Set it about a half psi above your intended max. If it starts cutting, back off the throttle a bit. You wouldn't want to spike to 6psi and blow it up due to going lean already. I don't think you'll have enough headroom to make but a couple of psi with stock 1.6 injectors.

Watch the duty cycle while you are driving. If it isn't already on your main gauge screen, put it there. 85% duty is effectively wide open all the time and should not be exceeded. Above that you will go lean quickly because the MS cannot add any more fuel.

Use the TunerStudio VE Analyze Live to autotune your fuel to your intended targets and get your unboosted cells functioning properly. Wait to tune the boosted cells after you get the normal ones dialed in. It will make life easier. And it will tell you if you are already in danger of running out of fuel when approaching boost.

What base map are you using? Can you take a screen shot of your target afr map and your ignition map and post them here?

rhysmate 01-13-2013 02:11 PM

Am i correct in thinking that the ve analyze is the add on for tuner studio? I still have to buy it.. Ill try what you say with the open flapper and see does it build boost. Im using the diyautotune base map that came with the ecu. I can post the tables tomorrow on my laptop when i get to work maybe you can point out where changes must be made.. (almost bed time here and im on my phone)
Cheers sixshooter

Wait! Your AFR target table is garbage! It doesn't even have positive manifold pressure (boost) targets (numbers above 101kpa)!

Yes, you need to buy the add on for TunerStudio to autotune fuel but it will only be as good as the target AFR table.

I assume you must have been seeing some boost in the videos but I don't know how much. Do you know? I was seeing some high 12.x numbers in second and third gear and that might not be great depending upon how much pressure you were seeing.

For the AFR targets you will need to change the scaling of the matrix by clicking on the grey boxes on the side and across the bottom one at a time and entering the new values. Then you can enter each of the targets manually as well. If the table I give you has less cells than yours (since mine is a lowly MS1), then add a line or column in between my values and interpolate the difference in between.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1358179767

Are you using your laptop while driving to determine if your duty cycle under load is getting above 85%? How about using it to datalog an acceleration run in TunerStudio, then posting a screen capture of the important bits?

sixshooter 01-14-2013 11:12 AM
