Just read all 25 Pages of this thread and it fucking rules.

Unknowingly I've done quite a few of the same things you have to your car and I'm just beginning my TII diff swap but going to stick with the miata trans after seeing all the work you did to make the TII trans work.

Keep this shit going!!!!!

The adapter plate and shift fork are the only difficult things, and they aren't all that bad. Just time consuming. If you can weld, or have access to a welder i'd say go for it! Haven't done much to the car recently, been doing stuff around the house and getting the garden ready for planting.

sawjai526 05-30-2011 04:26 AM

rusty car into clean boosted monster! your welds look clean! great job!

mighty mouse 06-01-2011 07:15 PM

I wish I could take credit for the welds, but I had a friend burn them in.

Couple pics:

I will be wrapping the vac lines in Techflex. The main vac line off the intake runs to a 6an bulkhead fitting, and then over to the brake booster.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2756/...e5c3190899.jpg

The wiring on the passenger side is complete and all ready to be bolted down for the final time. Here's a shot of the routing under the passenger headlight:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2395/...4f9d0a5fde.jpg

I forgot to take a shot of the harness running up the fender, will do that next time I'm out there.

mighty mouse 06-05-2011 08:53 PM

Got the exhaust manifold, downpipe, and turbo back on the motor. I also drilled and tapped the mixing manifold and the thermostat neck to accept a 6an fitting to eliminate the need for a short section of hose. Most of the lines are now bolted down, although I took the following pic during the install, so they might not be in their final locations. It's starting to look like a car again!

Looks awesome, man! I love that ETD shorty, I want one so bad.

Any idea on when you'll be driving it again?

I'm hoping to get it back on the road in July, haven't had much time lately to devote to it, but I'm slowly picking away at it. June is another busy month so we'll see.

miatamike203 06-10-2011 11:16 PM

Man seeing this great work makes me want to start the other half of the plans i have for my car. Paint, body work, wire tuck, and good clean up.

mighty mouse 06-13-2011 07:56 PM

Dropped a few things off to get powdercoated with a local powdercoater. I had them match the color I painted the roll cage (a dark bronze) with, and then go over it with layer of clear. Excuse the dust.

GOD. DAMN. That is so clean.

I vote to ditch the headlights and install PIAA lights in the turn signals. Those barn doors are a fucking eye soar in that engine bay, they don't deserve to be there.

While that may be true, I enjoy them on the miata. Not many cars around these days that have them.

mighty mouse 06-25-2011 04:37 PM

crappy iPhone pic (I'll take a better one I promise), but the engine bay is all set minus fluids. Couple more terminations with the dash I need to finish, put the interior back in, and I should be back in action. Trying to get it ready for next weekend.

This makes me happy.

astroboy 06-25-2011 10:20 PM

Damn dude, lookin good. What did you use as a check valve for your brake booster line?

Also I don't think my car is on the same level as yours but I think we should do a shoot with both our cars. Especially seeing how I am hoping to have mine moving under its own power on thursday and the work I did last night and today looks like the same stuff you did over the past few days (radiator, intercooler, piping, hoses, water lines).

shlammed 06-26-2011 09:10 AM

Check my build thread for an idea of how to clean up your intake....3" 45 degree elbowso the filter sits far forward sitting pretty much ON the frame rail next to the headlight motor.

oh I've already saved that picture...haha. For now this will do, but I think when I'm bored down the road I will revisit it.

I just cut down the stock check valve rubber line and wrapped it in techflex ;).

I'm down for a shoot, too, we'll have to plan something.

RAIN 06-30-2011 11:50 PM

when you coming over to help me wire tuck hmmm lol

mighty mouse 07-01-2011 09:09 PM

Finished all the wiring and spent the rest of today testing all my circuits and wiring changes out- Everything so far is working great! I even got all the LEDs except for 1 installed correctly, which I was surprised to see. Also tested the fuel system and found I tore the O-ring on injector 3- ran to the parts store and fixed that. Didn't see any other leaks in the fuel system after that nor in the coolant system. Hoping to finish the last bit tomorrow.

astroboy 07-01-2011 11:55 PM

Sounds good man. Glad to hear it is all wrapping up nicely.

mighty mouse 07-02-2011 09:12 PM

The car is back in fighting shape! It started up almost immediately. All of my wiring with the exception of the oil temp. gauge is working as well, which was a relief. I'm wondering if I might have disrupted the connection to the gauge when I was putting the dash back in. Ran the car for about 30 minutes to make sure the fan cycled on, and everything was normal, no leaks, etc. Tomorrow I'm going to have a buddy come over to help bleed the brakes and then it's off the jack stands hopefully for a looooong time!

yank 07-03-2011 03:06 PM

Awesome! i cant wait to see some vids of what this car can do. :D

mighty mouse 07-05-2011 09:35 AM

Took the car out for a test drive yesterday- it's running pretty good! I believe I have a small vac leak at one of the wastegate fittings, but other than that everything seemed happy. I'm going to put some more time on it before checking the catch can to make sure I'm not blowing oil out still, but I'm about 99% positive that was due to a poor seal job on the baffles.

I freaking love this car.

Gotta wet sand first but I'm down.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

astroboy 07-05-2011 11:11 AM

Maybe when you finish with that I'll have my shit sorted. I'd love to shoot that bad larry.

mighty mouse 07-06-2011 07:27 PM

I finally mustered up the courage and mounted my hood-pins over the weekend.

First cut is always the hardest:
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6015/...842710451f.jpg

Put down some blue tape and traced out the pattern for the latch:
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6055/...9117769926.jpg

With a combination of a drill, grinder, jigsaw, and a sanding disc I was able to test fit the latch (I know I'm jumping from side to side here, sorry about that):
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5080/...c565662893.jpg

Here I am test fitting both of the latches, and making sure they are able to catch the pins.
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5034/...aef98ecbbb.jpg

All done! I put some silicone sealant around all the cut edges as well as the perimeter of the latch so water can't get in. Took this pic before cleaning up the excess silicone and dust.
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6040/...a1d190fb27.jpg

astroboy 07-06-2011 07:33 PM

Nice man, they look good. What does the underside look like?

mighty mouse 07-07-2011 09:16 AM

I'll get a pic for you. I had to cut about a 1/2" more material around the perimiter of the latch in order to be able to get access to the hardware. I think I might end up adding some epoxy to the hood structure, as I had to slice the center support up a good bit.

yank 07-07-2011 09:35 AM

Nice! I planned on replacing my current pins with these. The lock was a good idea for sure.

mighty mouse 07-07-2011 12:59 PM

I removed the factory hood latch all together, so I thought so too. I don't know how often I will lock them, but just to have the option was worth it to me. There really isn't that big a price difference.

mighty mouse 07-14-2011 10:17 AM

I went to go and install the Tein EDFC control motors last night, and it turns out they aren't compatible with Tein RA coilovers- ARG! I'm going to call Tein USA today to see if there is someway I could retrofit them on. The issue is the top stud on the coilover where the motor threads on is too short.

astroboy 07-14-2011 11:33 AM

JB weld? I kid! But maybe you can make an adapter to thread into the edfc and then onto the top stud?

theshdwconspracy 07-14-2011 12:02 PM

open the trunk and turn the knob

hingstonwm 07-14-2011 12:14 PM

Nice build, nice hood pins. Just make sure they are latched, I game been behind more than one Mata on the track when a hood suddenly filled their windshield.

yank 07-14-2011 02:09 PM

wonder if you could pull the shock, run a die on the threads backwards, then weld on a piece of round and run the die back off and cut the threads as you go..

mighty mouse 07-14-2011 03:48 PM

Yeah i'm sure there is a way around it. If there isn't a simple solution readily available (IE and adapter kit), then I'm going to forget it and revisit it this winter.

mighty mouse 07-15-2011 10:40 AM

Also, to update my "blowing oil out of the valve cover" issue i was having, I went to drain my catch can last night after having run 2 tanks of fuel through the car, and not a single drop came out- it's bone dry. This confirms that the only reason it was leaking in the first place was the poor job I did sealing the baffles on the old valve cover.

Put some heat shielding on the underside of the hood, as well as on 2/3s of the brake reservoir (Thanks Revlimiter for the link!!). I left the section facing the fender open so I can still check the fluid level.

It was dirt cheap: http://www.competitionproducts.com/F...nfo/CPXSH1203/

I bought 8 sheets. I did the hood, and I plan on lining the trans tunnel as it gets pretty hot in the cabin after a long drive (go figure)
