Do you have any news about the driveshaft?

With how it looked too short? I posted about it shortly after the picture. Shaftmasters reassured me that it's okay because it seals against the slip yoke and doesn't need to be right up against it. I'll see if that is in fact true when it's actually running if the trans leaks.

-------

So I haven't totally disappeared. I did ignore the car for a while again mostly because the entire harness building thing is so much of a learning curve that I haven't had time to get into with work being crazy and getting moved into another new position there.

But! I had a friend come over and start on the harness just doing a bit of work a few nights a week. The engine bay side is mostly done but I'm waiting on my bulkhead connector to finish it off. Unfortunately my Passport and almost new Galaxy S5 were stolen last time I was in Detroit picking parts up so I can't make it back across to pick any parts up anytime soon.

Bought some more wiring supplies as well. This has been an interesting learning process that's for sure! The goal is to have everything loomed nicely with new terminals crimped on as much as possible and no electrical tape being used anywhere because it's gross. So braided loom, heat shrink, and DEI Fire Tape are the only things being used to wrap the harness. It's turning out really nicely

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1437074376

Cam sensor, TPS, IAC, and IAT. Could've hid the IAT a little better but oh well; that's part of the learning process lol

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1437074376

Here's a pic of that first harness, the injector harness, and fan harness.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1437074376

The fan harness will join with the crank sensor harness along the frame rail on the passenger side where they'll run up to the bulkhead together.

All the fan wiring is staying tucked underneath to keep things looking clean
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1437074376

All the wires are run up to the point the bulkhead will go through the firewall. Once the IM is back on and it's finalized w/ the bulkhead almost all the wires will be hidden

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1437074376

Starter and alternator still need to be wired but I was just waiting on some thicker gauge wire for that so hopefully that'll happen tonight or this weekend. Also need to figure out the coilpack wiring and get that done.

All the chassis wiring will be OEM except for what needs to be extended to hide the headlight wiring, etc. Going to be moving the main fusebox under the dash as well.

Unfortunately the friend that is helping me with the harness hasn't been able to make it out the past few days but I thought I'd give some of the chassis wiring a shot myself. Things went much more smoothly than expected.

I moved all the relays in the harness so they'd be under the dash and extended the wires for the lights and headlight motors so they can run under the fenders rather than through the engine bay.

Also cleaned up any loose ends from deleting wires as I came across them

So clean! No braided loom on the tucked wires in the fender well?

TheBandit 07-18-2015 09:18 AM

You continue to inspire me. It's continuing to come together very well. Shouldn't be too long til' we hear that new motor for the first time.

BoostedSmurf 07-18-2015 11:19 AM

Thanks guys! I'm starting to get excited about the first start. Finally!

@m2cupcar I'll be doing split loom on these. I don't have any braided split loom unfortunately but it's almost all hidden so I'm not worried. The split loom will be held together with the DEI Fire Tape to keep it looking clean. It would've been way too hard to do the braided loom on these wires because I'm just extending existing wires, not running all new ones.

Back to having no time to work on the car again but these showed up from Fab9 so I had to do a quick test fit.

Also picked up but don't have pics of:
-Clutch slave, master, and braided line
-Battery charger for AGM battery
-Aluminum radiator panel
-Aluminum coolant overflow
-Milspec bulkhead connector

You are correct.

Been terrible at working on this thing recently but ya... Maybe i'll still drive it sometime this year.

Bought these on top of the other wheels sitting in my garage though

Rather than doing productive work I was doing test fits for when the car goes to the body shop this winter

Had a friend come over while I was at work and loom the chassis wiring. Still more under the dash to be done
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1438408004

Hopefully will have this bulkhead from Fab9 wired up this weekend

Going back on 12 hour shifts, 6 days a week at work so this thing may never be finished lol

Ran the battery/starter/alternator/etc wires
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1439512470

Need to tidy this up but its getting there
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1439512470

Finally got my clutch hydraulics changed out with all new stuff. The slave is a huge pain to get to with the tii trans and hotside all installed. Should've done this before even putting the turbo on. The line right off the slave has to loop around like this just to clear the trans tunnel
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1439512470

Cut the ac hole a bit for the bulkhead
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1439512470

Then sealed the VC finally, installed the coilpacks & wires, finished heater core lines, etc.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1439512470

Waiting on the rest of my pins to pinout the bulkhead, then run wires to the ECU and wire up the coilpacks, fill fluids, and then attempt a first start. troubleshoot why it won't start, and finally rage quit lol. Or get lucky and maybe it'll actually run

jimmyneutron 08-14-2015 02:01 AM

Starting to look really clean :) In for first start!

jimmyneutron 09-14-2015 02:58 AM

Well that escalated quickly :)

BoostedSmurf 09-14-2015 05:56 AM

lol it doesn't actually run and isn't even done. I just don't have time to work on it anymore.

DNMakinson 09-14-2015 06:45 AM

Sad face. Looking forward to when you can get back to it. Great build.

So really no updates on the Miata. It's been at Fab9 since September, just waiting to get a message that its running or almost running.

I got tired of waiting for this thing to be done so I went out and bought a new daily.

Loving it as a daily right now.

Already did the p3cars vent gauge, aluminum dogbone mount, short shifter with bushings, and clutch bleeder block in the first 3 weeks of ownership. Excited for a tune, intake, and exhaust in the spring. Or I could partout the miata and do all that now :O

I guess I'll bump this thread. Talked to Bryan this week and decided to switch from megasquirt to AEM so that'll be happening now. Kind of excited about the miata again since spring is coming. If anyone wants my Reverant built MS2 enhanced lmk since that's for sale now.

That's all I have about the miata for now since that's all I know lol

In the meantime I've been playing around with the Golf R. Got a jb1 from burger motorsports and couldn't believe how much a piggyback changed the car. All it does is essentially raise the boost by 5psi but it dropped my 0 to 60 from 5.3 to 4.5 seconds.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1453299717

Put on my winter wheels and got the car opticoated.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1453299717

I also picked up a spulen IC pipe w HKS SSQV BOV and a 42 Draft Designs downpipe. Still need to find time to install the downpipe. Also got some VWR lowering springs.

Hopefully more on the miata soon since that's what you guys care about rather than my German hatch lol
