The flywheel likely looks like that because of how the clutch looks. I think? All from the failed burnout.

So does the clutch look like its toast too or do you guys think after a bit of normal use it might be alright? It wasn't slipping afterwards even on pulls.

I'd be worried about the build up personally. You can see uneven wear on the clutch surface, and the surface material building up in the slots.

I'd resurface the flywheel and replace the clutch disk, they aren't too pricey for peace of mind.

Spinning the input shaft it gets caught up/clunks at the same spot each time it goes around. Jeff, messaged you about a 5 speed.

Since this clutch wasn't slipping and only needs to last this year it'll go back in. If I need a new disk I may as well go TII now rather than wait.

That clutch looks pretty rough. The smearing appears to be the result of excessive heat from that slipping incident.

I would take it to a local clutch rebuild shop to get a professional opinion as to whether or not the smearing will wear off after normal use.

Taking a chance on the clutch . . . ask yourself "did I enjoy pulling the transmission solo with the car on jackstands while having back and hernia issues." If the answer's yes, then by all means, put that burned-up clutch back in. LOL.

Id at least surface the flywheel, but +1 on replacing that clutch. Gotta pay to play :)

Just looked at it again and had a friend look at it. Looks like you're all right lol. Disk is toast.

Time to start gathering TII swap parts. Car will be down for at least a month.

My torsen will be getting removed tomorrow and it'll be going for sale to make room for the TII rear end. That'll hopefully cover the TII rear end and a part of my driveshaft.

Going to sell off as many spare parts as I can to hopefully make this entire swap happen sooner rather than later

I've been meaning to chime in. There is counter shaft in the 5 speed that rotates with the input shaft. I've personally destroyed 4x 5-speed transmissions and it has been the counter shaft each time. Pulled them apart and sure enough it was missing at least a tooth.

It was completely normal sounding when you press the clutch pedal and an awful sound when you let go of the pedal (even when you aren't in a gear).

Jeff - Without the hydraulics or a pressure plate in place, the throwout bearing can slide freely back and forth. More so the case when he has already removed the rubber boot from the fork.

Thanks Bryan, I'm pretty certain that's what I broke but I'll find out whenever I actually crack the trans open. Sorry about never getting back to you about those parts I wanted. I was waiting to see if anything would come up when the car was back on the road and looks like its good I did that with a transmission breaking less than 24 hrs into having the car out. I'll have to wait a bit before buying those parts but I still plan on getting them.

Redoing all my research for the TII swap now that I actually have to start piecing everything together. This is going to be more work than anticipated but the car will be going to a friend's house where there is a hoist. He is also a welder and machinist which should make like a lot easier when it comes to installing everything.

I already own the TII transmission but need to source a custom clutch, driveshaft, TII rear end w/ axles, and have some rear hubs machined.

If anyone knows of any TII diffs for sale lmk, I can't seem to find any ATM

No worries - As far as the driveshaft, there is a local company that has modified driveshafts in the past for me. Let me know when you're ready and I'll put you in touch or help facilitate the changes you'll need. Not an expensive endeavor.

Appreciate that! I'll be buying the adapter plate this week which will let me bolt the trans to my motor, then I just need to find a diff so I can get the measurements for driveshaft length.

Went to Cars & Coffee with a friend in his e36 m3 on Saturday and couldn't take the entire not having the car out with all this nice weather. Also ran into another friend at C&C who had a 5 speed and a BNIB clutch disk, bought the transmission and got the clutch for free.

Got home at 10pm, jacked the car up, installed the new clutch, transmission, and then put my torsen back in which I just removed to sell as a means of funding the TII swap. Started at 10pm, and finished up around 4am, but my car is back on the road!

Although it may be time to start taking it a bit easier on the car for a bit until I have more TII parts ready to go in. Almost turned the boost down today but decided against it; I'll see if that's something I have to pay for in the next couple weeks lol

Cut my bumper today in preparation for the left exit exhaust going on this weekend. Still needs to be smoothed out a little bit, but that'll happen on the weekend.

yea, I've been taking it much easier on the car since its back out. but I do have a leaking brake caliper now that isn't getting any better lol, need to try to find a new one
