Default 2nd Slowest turbo Miata ever

Project in the shop.

So like i said in the build for my red one (slowest turbo miata ever), my stock engine is going into my buddies 90. Shockingly the 1.6 SNC in this 90 is pretty stout, but i expect nothing less from a BP.

Anyway, plans are. Erat-built manifold, erat-built exhaust with FM muffler, 16g turbo, megasquirt, ID1000, erat-tune, CX racing IC and piping that i'll probably have to erat-modify it a bit. Coolant reroute. I'm sure i'm missing something. It should be fun, and probably end in complete and utter failure. But i'm going to go down without trying.

My build is pretty slow and i expect this one to be a bit slower...

I wouldn't make a thread without pictures.

Per usual i'll be cleaning the bullshit out of the bay that won't be needed. Power wash, degrease, POR15, maybe add a little spraybomb. Same stuff i'd do to my car.

Nope. The cluster was swapped when the NA8 dash was swapped in. I think the car has 160 or 180k on it.

That doesn't look so bad.

Lets turn the flash on.

OH THE HORROR!

Lunch time, and the easy part is done. The plan is to have this SOB on the hoist by dinner, and on craigslist just after dinner.
But plans never work for me.

Does this look OEM to anyone else?

Yes, shitty welds on the inside of the manifold.

My god it's ugly.

I just have to get ONE PPF bolt off... Someone afro rigged this damn thing together making it impossible to take apart.

Real men.

Went and watched Tadd use my drill and tap on his oil pan this morning. Got back and worked a little on the blue car. But like he said, it's 90 and feels like 9000% humidity.

But made some progress. PPF gave me a bit of trouble but eventually got it.

Aside from where the brake booster pissed all over the place. The car is rust free and pretty clean. Just dirty and grimy.
Going to see if i can't get a power washer over here and blast this sucker. Gonna get it back on all 4s and attempt that, maybe, it feels good in the A/C.
Perhaps i'll wait for the owner to come around and scrub it.
Then POR15 and some blue paint where it needs to be.

20+ year old engine that's never been touched.

Most of the dirt and grime on the top end is from me touching it with my grubby hands.
It's not to bad. A little power wash and it will be good to go. Up for sale. $300, $350 with trans. When i dumped the fluid in the trans it was new and clean.

First round of cleaning, took a few more things off, and tucked some wires behind to clean up the look.

Chronological order. It's not done yet by far.

The owner actually turning a wrench.

Oh, nope. More of me using an over aggressive tool.

Soaking.

20+ years of gunk, ready to come off.

Just after the first wipe down, already looking much better.

Told the owner he bought a rustpile.

Tucked away wiring, and cleaned up. Rust will be cleaned off and POR15'd.

How it's looking before we get it back on all 4, roll it outside and pressure wash it down real good.

Other than where the booster pissed all over, the car is really rust free.

Continued progress.

Couldn't find a power washer, and the hoses worked fine. Power washer may have stripped off stuff that didn't need to come off.

Nice and deep like.

I love em wet.

The owner cleaning the wiring harness that runs along the PPF all the way to the back.

Ready for paint.

POR15 drying up nicely. Owner said he wants to do a second coat and get it good. Fine with me. So we're waiting for it to dry then we will spraybomb it black. Semigloss or something. Touch up a bit of the blue with some blue paint we have.

The owner rewrapping the wiring harness that runs to the back with electrical tape.

Got a new phone, and that was taken with it. ^ Yay for a better camera.

Everything is looking good. All this aesthetics stuff is very time consuming, and the end reward may not even be very grand. But we might as well do it right. Also, like i said in the beginning. This build will be done under the influence, and i assure you i am.

In for dinner.
I know it may look silly but it's got the rust and nastyness taken care of. That's all we care about.

Underbody coating on.

Second coat of POR15.

Subframe painted.

The owner, the painter, the mule.

Good enuff.

I know it may look silly, which is why i took a picture of the other side. We're just going to leave this side the way it is, but you can see how bad it looks from the factory.

Yes sir. Thanks.

The owner just got laid off, but progress will still continue. I can't have this thing in my garage forever.

Gotta figure out the wiring on it. Need to see how to wire the 1.8TPS with the 1.6 harness onto the MS. I think on the MS you just need to add a jumper.
Then obviously build a manifold, that's going to be time consuming.

I didnt think it was that bad. If you dont count the time I spend on the computer. Took just slightly longer than swapping an engine for the first time. And I sawsalled all my weld el cuts. You can make 4-6 cuts into 304 sch40 weld els with a Milwaukee sawsall blade before it needs to be changed.

I'm thinking this might do the job.

3-1/2 Horsepower 14 in. Industrial Cut-Off Saw

I didn't see it in the win/fail Harbor Freight thread, but based on the reviews on the HF website it can't be all that bad. Probably have to change out the wheel, i'm sure stainless will chew it up. I'm just worried about cut thickness. You loose a lot of material with the wider wheels unlike a band saw.

Might as well get this out of the way right away.

Now to make up for that ^
Repinning connectors, you know, because we don't **** around and do things right.

1.8 TB on 1.6 wiring.

The trunk needed some love, badly. Dang Florida cars rust so weird.

lol

Keep in mind, it's not meant to look perfect, just be effective. Trunk carpets are being sourced and will be put in.

Painted all the battery brackets, and battery area nice and good.
