So after much cleaning and scrubbing, I got the housings pretty clean, but there was some staining in the cast from old oil that I couldn't get out. I wanted to throw it in my sandblaster, but due to moving into the new house this weekend I don't have my equipment set up. In the meantime, I painted it anodized ricer red. :loser:
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1369406005 I start a 10 day vacation this evening to finish my move and install the turbo. I have all the parts, I'm comfortable with Megasquirt, this is going to be fun! |

Painted for now. I have all the equipment for powdercoating but as mentioned before, all of my equipment is packed up for moving tomorrow. I tend to do paint jobs first to see if I actually like the appearance before I commit to the powdercoating. Paint comes off easily, powdercoat not so much. I do have some pretty awesome powder colors though. From what I understand, paint holds up well on the compressor housing. Obviously is't not a "one and done" paint job; it will fail over time but it looks good for now.
Edit: Sorry, didn't answer your question. I used the Metalcast paint. I've seen/read some other builds that have used it on the compressor with pretty good success. |

What color did you use on that cat??? almost looks like a brindle job
|
Bad-ass beige, Like Whoa White, and Bitchin'Brown. He wasn't too fond of the curing process though.

haha... my cat hates heat, so after i cured mine, i dunked him like a katana in the bathtub.... he didnt like that either...

Finally got around to replacing the old army green radiator.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1370376635 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1370376635 Much better now. I can't wait to get home from work today, I have a box waiting for me containing all the parts I need for my stainless oil feed and return lines! |

Got the manifold and turbo mounted. Buffon01 sold me a perfect condition wastegate actuator to replace the HKS one I had. The stem was a little short so I had to cut, thread, and insert a rod union.
Also, making stainless oil lines sucks ass. It took everything I had just to get one side done. I'll buy the pre-made ones next time, althoug from what I gather the stainless lines don't go bad so there won't BE a next time. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1370749124 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1370749124 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1370749124 |

Well gentlemen, She's boosted. I actually got it up and running about 3 days ago with help from Flying_solo, and she's running like a champ. I did have to adjust my BOV a little bit, but other than that it was painless. The absolute worst part by far was fabricating the stainless drain line. Tapping the pan was a breeze, but putting the fittings on the hose was the devil. I will NEVER do that again.
Learning to use Megasquirt before adding boost was the best thing ever. It made the transition seamless. I'll be upgrading to some better parts as time marches on, but for now I could not be happier. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1371785444 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1371785444 |
