Engine replacement
I have a question for anyone who can help me out with my problem. I have a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata and I had a rod blow through the side of the block. Does anyone know if you can use a standard miata engine in place of the speed engine or can you use just its block?
I believe the bottom end for the 1.8's is for the most part identical from 94-05. I don't know where it sources the oil feed for the turbo, but any block for the most part should work. This is more of a general question then a build thread, but.
Also, post a thread in the welcome mat forum before someone rages all over you. :P

No, one yet I only had it for a few months, I was about to start myself. I have always been a fan of motorcycles, but I was always drawn to the miata but never bought one. So, I really not sure about everything yet. Thats why I asked about the stock or na motor matching up with the speed motor.
That really sucks, curious what was done to the car? What kind of boost were you running? Still on the stock turbo?
You should be able bolt it up to a 94+ bottom end, hopefully you're head is still ok.

A connecting rod bearing spun, yet I don't see how it would have since I just did a oil change only a few weeks before that. Also,I checked it the day before and it was fine. Plus the oil pressure was good. What really gets me is I was only doing about 10 to 15 mph when it happened.
