Default Everything upside down and expensive in Australia

Hey guysngals. My names Mario (20), Long time **** poster first time poster.
I usually spend my days **** posting on the Australian mx5 Facebook groups but ive decided that i might actually document my silver piece of **** before i forget what has even been done to it.

Well this was my first car and i've had it for 3 years since then I haven't done a single track event, its taught me so much in the time ive had it and gotten me through so many tough times.
In the 3 years ive had it its gone over a couple of changes. Its been naturally aspirated (~12 wheel dogpower), had a 50 dry shot of nitrous (139whp), ran a Eaton m45 supercharger off a mini cooper (174whp).
Now its time for bigger numbers and more expensive things after spinning the main bearings in the b6 while it was supercharged

With the goal of 400whp in mind I was on a path to gather all these fun parts that hurt my apprentice wallet. some how put them together because ide much rather **** it up myself then pay someone a ridiculous amount to **** it up.

whats in this mistake that was built in my bedroom you ask?
bp4w block
Supertech 9.1 84mm pistons w/ WisecoXX rings (.20 top, .18 bottom, or the other way around? i don't remember)
Manly H beam rods
Polished crank
acl bearings
boundary stage1 oil pump (2 shims)

Bp4w Head
casting cleaned up in ports
Supertech 1mm os intake valve
Supertech 1mm os exhaust valve
Supertech shim under bucket lifters
Supertech dual valve springs (63lbs)
oem bp4w cams
84mm mls bp4w gasket
Blox adjustable cams

other little bits and pieces
flowforce 640cc injectors (will need to be upgraded)
radium fuel rail
Ati Superdamper
skunk 2 manifold
skunk 2 throttle body
megasquirt 2
clutch masters 6 puck
CCI 13lbs flywheel
ls1 coils

Things sitting under my bed waiting to be installed
Kraken t2 Manifold
Garret gt2876r .86 IWG
Intercooler and piping (2.25")
3" exhaust (just muffler)

Ill try and include all the pictures I have, its not many because ive never thought ide post something like this (not in chronological order)

Jeebuz, when I was 20 I was busy walking uphill both ways and making $0.25 an hour. Nice work.

Maybe I should move this living room decoration into my bedroom.

It was ***** inspection day today at work so i got off early and had some time to install my new injectors. I got some bosch ev14 1000cc injectors that i picked up new for 300 bucks off a mate whos tuner told him that they're too small for his build so i bought them off him. I then sold my bosch ev14 640cc injectors for 250 bucks. all in all i upgraded from 640cc to new 1000cc for 50 bucks so I think I won that

I learnt that mum wasn't lying that if you play with your throttle too much it'll fall off. I think ill loctite the new bolts in when i find the size I gotta buy after the other 3 fell on the road somewhere. I was wondering why it was idling at 4k

All that money and a dryer hose connection. I should give you 100 negative cats. No way that is airtight.

I think that might be aussie intake tubing, supposedly smooth on the inside.

As for the disgusting intake tubing its a temporary solution while i run in the motor and until i put the turbo on. It works but ide assume the ripples on the inside dont help performance. If it makes you blokes feel anyworse i use 65mm pvc befor but had to change because of the clearence i needed for the thermo fan.

quick cheap simple. Nothing more nothing less

Its been awhile since my last update, haven't updated for awhile because I cooked my sciatic nerve. I don't have any pictures of the recent things done to my car so here's a list
- get bolts for throttle body, realize they're too long, so instead of returning them for the right size I spend 30 mins cutting down four bolts and cleaning the thread
- bolt up throttle body
-transmission seized at 90kph but broke free so got my mate to drag me 20kms home with a ****** strap (so ******* sketchy in peak hour traffic)
-had the ***** with the car sitting there so i stuck it up on jack stands and decided to swap out the transmission by my self, took four ******* painful hours (honestly the worst ******* pain to do with cooked nerves and a heap of ripped up muscle but nothing painkillers cant fix)
-cars been sitting for a couple days now and ive got nothing to do so im thinking of setting up the piedash while i give myself time to actually recover lmao
On the plus sized i bought my self one of those fancy 1650nm cordless impact wrenches and fucked a heap of bolts up

I think im getting somewhere, or im working backwards? I dont know what im doing but I know that my wallet seems to be bleeding ALOT

- cold side intake is on aside from the intercooler so i just slapped a pod filter over the silicone for now
-turbo manifold is on with the turbo
-3 inch exhaust is on and alot louder then i thought but i guess it is what it is
-bought a wal BROOOO 255lph fuel pump and im just gonna hope thats enough for >350whp on e85
-The gt2876 that i got second hand is fucked (what a suprise....) so i ordered a gtx2867 .86 because they where having a sale and i couldent really be bothered thinking too much about it so i just bought that
-Ordered a gfb ebc3 because even though i have a solenoid wired for my ms2 i thought I really need more ufo lights in my interior
-Ordered a bunch of 1/8npt fittings because in aus our parts stores only have 1/8 bsp fittings so its not as simple as walking down the road as it is for you blokes
-Picked up a bracket and ls2 coils off beavis here in aus and bartunes building a custom lead for my application

I've been driving around with no oil or water in the turbo because it was just pissing out of the seals (yes restrictor was in place and turbo was seeing required pressure), it sound pretty mad it just makes hissing sounds for now until it becomes a very expensive paperweight and a lesson to myself
so far so good, I think im on track again but who knows what will happen next.

-Intercooler and piping, drilled and tapped cold side of intercooler for gm iat sensor
-bigger thermo fan as the 9" one overheated in traffic
-instead of having a long rubber tube running around the plenum of the intake manifold i cut up a piece of 32mm Copper and expanded the ends, so in the case of the hose failing it will be a lot easier to make something up on the side of the road then ordering another Escalade hose from the usa

I ruined my plastic undertray while installing the intercooler so im gonna make something out of like a 3mm composite or ill do something with asome 15mm ply and make a diffuser and air dam

combo

Been a week since my last update so thought ill stick it in here
Gtx2876 g2 came in the mail and installed
Inconel studs w/ copper nuts
intercooler piping setup
colorful door cards makeup
5psi spring in wastegate, currently running some very safe timing just messing around with having a turbo mx5

The oil filter sandwich plate I got was too (short?) so atm i've tightened the **** out of the oil filter to seal it. For a permanent, less sketchy option I either need to get a thicker sandwich plate by 20~30mm or cut down the thread for the oil filter but hesitant due to contamination. I could just stick a tampon down the pipe and pull it out when its cut and cleaned up but want to look into other solutions. (adding a spacer on the adapter nut could be a idea but its on the list of things, open to opinions)

Even with the temporary things like convoluted tubing, this is looking nice. If you are talking about the big M20x1.5 threaded rod onto which the oil filter screws - the "cleanest" way to shorten that would be to duck down to Bunnings or Autobarns, grab two M20x1.5 nuts, lock them together on the rod, and just unscrew it from the block. Shorten to size, then replace - that's how I did it.

... and how nice is that Kraken stuff - crikey!!! Also totally get the thread title.

Am also building in Australia, and have learnt that if I see a price on a miata part in the U.S., by the time exchange rates, freight, customs and GST all take their bite, it is exactly double the US advertised price. I know that whinging about how much your project car costs is such a first world problem that it makes others throw up in their mouth, but a $20K build instantly turning into a $40K build sure does clarify the mind, and sharpen your skills of rhetoric and logic when explaining to the Significant Other.

Thanks Ninerwfo, I ended up just pulling it out and cutting 20mm off it then cleaning up the threads;it isn't leaking yet so thats a better result then previous.
Ended up driving around with autotune on to get the fueling in a decent place, didn't get too far up in the rev range, around 5500 or so. To be honest it wasnt too bad, it picked up speed pretty quickly to the point where i had to back off or its loss of licence for 6 months.
Had a intercooler pipe blow off because its only held on by a hose clamp and I don't have a proper clamp for that size unlike the rest, still supprised it creeped up to 11psi on a 5psi spring
I don't know what to do about this bloody oil pump, its still leaking after nipping up the bolts which is pretty annoying because i put a fair bit of time in prepping both surfaces and sealing it with black rtv If someone has a solution that doesn't involve dropping the supframe or pulling the motor that would be awesome.
I have to agree with you on the price, Ive put a fair bit of dollerydoos into it but i'm hoping that i get a nice end result i'm happy with, that doesn't involve rebuilding the motor. I'm sure if you speak to the US retailers and ask them to give you a dodgy invoice thats under 1k so you dont get hit with customs tax they should be alright.
Also pulled a heap of timing on everything above atmosphere just to be safe until i get it to a tuner, I can live with high egt's instead of a cooked piston
