did that ron davis radiator show any improvement over the koyo? my build also uses a civic half radiator and I have a PWR radiator right now.

Bump for this awesome thread. I was thinking of turboing my NB, but an N/A F20c sounds far better to me for what I want to do with the car. :winner:

Thanks for the props, my original build was N/A it was great as a daily driver. Then I got the hp bug and decided to boost it, I love the car, especially the sleeper aspect. I have plans to upgrade the fuel system and turn the boost up, but they will have to wait until the runoffs are over, and will depend on how good the quaife transmission looks in the race car after the season is over.

I already have one fire breather, I don't need another.

Just would like a bit more than the anemic 140hp the Miata came with, and 240hp sounds a hell of a lot better in a 2200 lb car for a daily driver.

Is it possible to do an F20c swap with our cars, and retain the ability to have air conditioning? Mine will be making trips to Lake havasu city, Arizona, and it can get up around 120 degrees in the summer time. Call me a wimp, but I'd like to have some cold air blown at me on those road trips.

Hingston, have you experienced any diff or axle issues with your car? I'm interested to know if snapped axles and blown Torsens are either an unfortunate certainty when running a Miata with a stout amount of torque, or simply a drag-radial and Dem678 speciality.

hingstonwm Jan 13, 2013 03:03 PM

Owen, I have had no issues at all, but I don't abuse the car with launches from a standing stop. The 7" ring and pilon of the 1.8 car is the same on used by Honda, Miata axles are less robust but should have no issue living in your application.

owenwilliams Jan 14, 2013 01:05 PM

That's what I was hoping you'd say. I'm aware that in my car's current format the diff is nicely understressed, but like you, I'm beginning to get the horsepower bug. I can't see drag radials (or even drag strips) ever being a part of this car's future though, so it sounds like as long as I continue to run very modest tyres, the Torsen and standard axle will have a few more years of life in them. Thanks for your response.

For the record, he didn't break the diff itself, he broke the arm that holds the diff on. And there was a reason for that, either a missing PPF or something else, but there was a reason it broke. Other than that, he's just broken axles.

How is this beast holding up? Any updates?

hingstonwm Feb 21, 2013 03:59 AM

The car has been flawless, though it does not see much use. Since I completed the turbo project it has seen maybe 5k miles...maybe. I have been busy with my f prod miata project and have been putting my time and $ there. That being said I have plans to revamp the fuel system with a gravity fed lift pump, to a surge tank, then to a big fuel pump capable of supplying enough e85 for 1000 horse. After the fuel system is done I will take the car back to my tuner and shoot for a 600-650 hp tune, depending on boost. I don't plan on doing this until after this years runoffs, Im focused on getting on the podium at the 50th!

owenwilliams Feb 21, 2013 05:26 AM

Now that's some great turbo reliability considering the power.
Question: considering you're now well and truly bitten by the power bug, and you have a capable race car for track precision, do you ever wish you'd gone for an LS swap from the start for this road car?
