Four Miata, Two Months, 10,000 miles

Last street miata I owned was a modified 2004 MSM back in 2008. Since then I have had a Genesis Track, Civic SI, S2000, Boss 302 and still tracked several Miata's here and there. So I took a new job for more pay. The job is 180 miles round trip per day. I drive a 2006 Toyota Tundra 4x4 Crew. I am not spending $250 bucks a week in gas. So I call my Dad up and inquire about his POS 93LE he bought 3 years ago to steal a hardtop off of it. A deal was struck to borrow it and he would have my sister drop it off in Houston on her way to TWS in three days.

She calls me, "This thing is a piece of shit". I shrug it off, how bad could it be. She delivers the car and I look it over. Three different rotted out tires, ripped top, stinky interior, misses, clutch is done...dammit.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1386349280

I fix the top right away with fishing line and black silicone.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1386349280

I miss having a Miata. I go to TWS and kick my Dad's ass in his own car. Trey instructs a my newb sister. She records him.

I get my Dad drunk at the track and offer him $1500 for it, he laughs and says $2800. I laugh and take his beer back and hand it to Hustler. I drive home 2hrs top down from TWS. I'm in trailer trash miata heaven. I drive it for a week with a slipping clutch and valve clatter. Parts come in, I drive to Dallas to steal Fidgtk's garage and kiss Hustler.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1386349280

We do two clutch jobs, F1 6 puck can kiss my ass, compression test, plugs, wires, valve cover, oil change, trans fluid. I try to bleed the brakes but the bleeders are rusted shut. I drive back to Houston and throw some Wally world $255 installed tires on it. Life is good for this old LE.

I go to Corpus to visit my Dad. I break 200,000. This old R package suspension is freakin rough.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1386312470

My Dad wants to drive the LE with the fresh clutch and 9lbs fly. He wrecks it 30ft later, as my neighbor backs his F150 with 37's into it.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1386312470

I'm freakin pissed. I grab a pry bar and work for 10 minutes to get it back in the driveway. The guy that hit it owns a body shop and is painting the whole car for free. Score, but it has to stay in Corpus. I have to be back in Houston tonight and I'm 4hrs away in Corpus Christi and my Dad just smashed the crap out my car. He lets me take his Spec Miata thats half way built. Basically its a full interior Spec Miata. I spend 3hrs making it street legal again and head to Houston late at night. I dodge a deer around a blind corner at 80mph, daughter never wakes up, I shit my pants. His seat is made for a 80lbs lady, fuck your couch nigga, I rip all the foam out of it. The dump pipe drones and drones, I hate life. The cruise is aftermarket unit and looses sink down hill. I question driving my cushy leather 4x4 to work. I realize I'm a man (in a pink miata) and suck it up.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1386312939

The next morning on the way to work I realize it has 3 year old wipers.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1386312470

Did I mention its House of Kolors Pink and has a dump pipe? I get pulled over, because racecar.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1386312470

I spank a C7 on a clover leaf, love this car :)

I get pulled over, and over, and over. I hate this Car. I park it at Kevins nicer gatted apartment and spit on the pink. Its still sitting there now.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1386312470

I call my Dad. "When is the LE getting out of the paint shop?"
"No idea"
"How much do you want for it?"
"3,000"
"WTF"
"It has a new clutch, paint, and runs good now."
"I did all of that shit"
"SO"

I resign to the fact that my Dad is a heartless Jew and start hunting for a new one. Three days and tons of google stalking later I find the Houston Miata Club Classifieds and find this turd.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ps182872ab.jpg

https://www.miataturbo.net/cars-sale...00-00-a-76220/

I give the guy $500 dollars and drag it home on a Friday. My friend offers me another miata, 1995 Torsen car for cheap on Saturday morning. I thank him, hang up the phone and cuss myself for being impatient. I sell the green car a week later, to a drifter, its probably getting CR out now. I tell him just to weld the 1.6 diff :). In about a week I'm picking the new one up to start all over again. I think I just burnt myself out. Maybe, I'll read a book.

fucking this. First time I drove the car all year long to work, this is exactly what happened to me. This seriously was a contributing factor in me parting the car.

y8s 12-06-2013 09:44 AM

haha not spending $30 on new wipers or windshield treatments.

Braineack 12-06-2013 09:46 AM

it had rainx on it, but wore off i guess. easier to just part and sell the car ;)

curly 12-06-2013 11:11 AM

$30?? Costco Goodyear wipers are $14 for the set. The look stupid and the hang off the edge on the passenger side, but work great.

Entertaining read indeed. However I was disappointed that you didn't own 4 Miatas within 2 months.

18psi 12-06-2013 11:16 AM

I'm disappointed its not turbo'd yet

jacob300zx 12-06-2013 11:38 AM

I might pick up the fourth one tonight if my buddy has time. I'll update the thread when I get it. For those concerned about the rain picture, it's not as bad as it looks. I was passing the semi at 80mph, in the slow lane, in the rain, hydro planing, 200 treadware tires, updating my Facebook, smoking a cigarette, with no defroster.

jacob300zx 12-06-2013 12:06 PM

Ok so some thoughts on the black car I'm picking up. My MSM was TI with grey pro race ones and a quite exhaust was a sleeper. Rear tires only lasted 2500 miles consistantly. I could hoon around town all day and cops never looked twice. The pink car was driven at the speed limit all day and got pulled over four times in four weeks. I need another hoon sleeper. I really want to swap in a VVT, suspension, wheels/tires, ep front. Can I do the EP flat front end or will it draw too much attention? What tires and wheels can I get that are not flashy? Can I run a RB header and still stay quite with the right cat back? Looking for low key street/daily fun.

So I drove the. 26ft Uhaul with transporter and the wife drove the Miata 500 miles to Little Rock. We had some pretty shitty weather the whole way. The cheap Walmart Douglas 240 installed tires kept her safe :) ran like a champ but I think it needs some wheel bearings.

Here is the wife cruising after the rain let up a little.

Yes, no idea.

Got bored today so I went on a 300 mile trip to the mountains with my son. Curvy roads, dirt road hooning, creek crossings, etc. Car is so fast it blew out the back window. Arkansas is freakin beautiful. I miss these roads. Be under no illusion, we did not wine and cheese this shit. I had a Redbull, he had a Sprite, we made good time. It was 39F, the top was down, we had beenies. I have video taken by a 7 year old.

Best time ever spent...! My son is 7 too, (daughter is 9) both of them are loving the Miata/MX-5 (so in the end we got 2 - actually a 3rd in reconstruction state) and like to drive around with our kids in the passenger seats... :bigtu:

hornetball 01-09-2014 09:51 AM

Good call Sven. I've recently become a 2-Miata person myself. You know that each of your kids will get those Miatas when they start driving, right? They'll be driving in no time . . . and you'll be old. It's a good thing you got the 3rd.

Scrappy Jack 01-09-2014 10:09 AM

I dig this thread.

I often toy with the idea of turning my current car into more of a dedicated track rat and building a nicer "vintage themed" street car, but I don't have enough space and my wife would have a fit if I sold the BMW to daily drive an NA Miata. :D

schaffer88 01-11-2014 11:19 AM

This inspires me, i must find white trash miata and work my way to legit daily driven miata.

Thats my plan. Also I trust driving a POS Miata more than any other car knowing I can fix anything on the side of the road with a small bag of tools, duck tape, and zip ties. We should have a white trash miata thread.

Update: Did the SHENITZU? Honda grease mod to all the power windows so they would work. Its way better. Found out the car has fairly new sony speakers...score. I also did a foamectomy last night. Noticed today that the hood and barn doors were all bent weird so a pulled and pried and everything lines up better. Thinking of giving it a Rustoleaum paint job.

So I'm taking an oil field job based out of OKC, its about 700 miles roundtrip. I've been up there twice in 6 days. I had to be there Wednesday for drug testing and DOT physical. I left in an ice storm Tuesday so I wouldn't get stuck at the house. Driving home Wednesday I snapped some pictures of a wreck I saw going up Tuesday and took a scenic way back home through the Quachita National Forest.

So I have been working my ass off lately, averaging 100hrs a week. Finally got some time to wrench on the beater. I built some Bilstein coilovers.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1397531575

Sitting 12.5/13.0 hub to fender, way nicer than blown shocks. Building something better at a later date.

Outlined here

Then I installed this during a rain/hail storm. I had no choice I'm leaving tomorrow and wanted to finally be dry.

Not too shabby for 158.

I also did the shifter boots and turret oil, shifts way nicer and is way quiter. I used the NC small boot as it was cheaper and bolted up no problem. Didn't have time for the timing belt/water pump/seals/belts/hose kit. Trying to decide if I want 8's and 205's or 9's and 225's. I'll update this thread when I get home in 2 weeks and knock a bunch more shit off the list. Looking for some of those ebay clear front turn signals if anyone has a link, cant find them for the life of me now.

I went back and forth about dding R comp tires. I like that they are dual duty but after the first track day they sound like mud tires. Then it was 9's vs 8's and 205's vs 225's. I decided with my power currently 205's were fine. Grabed some 15x8+25 Axis OG San and 400TW Dunlops in 205/50/15. Then Hustler's daily got wrecked and I picked up his AST 3000's and swapped out the Bilsteins.

Oh, and I almost forgot that I had Two Six Motorsports put some of their prototype wheel bearings in the rear. They use a high grade ball, new races, and special grease. They are so quite I can hear the front now and they arent even bad. Unforgettably I have no pictures of my new balls.

Chilicharger665 05-02-2014 01:15 PM

The car just got a major upgrade! Also tons of details on those new rear bearings are needed, for science' sake.

jacob300zx 05-02-2014 03:07 PM

PM Frank L above for more detail. Most companies will repack your entire hub with redline grease and call it blueprinted. I bought just the bearings from 2 6 Motorsports. From what I know they use high quality G5 bearings, new races that have been checked and measured true, and a type of Mobil grease that several Grand Am Rolex teams use thats on par or slightly better than Amsoil. They might do other stuff thats proprietary but idk. This is a real blueprinted bearing. When you look into a clean stock bearing your face is all distorted like a weird mirror thats how out of round they are, when you look into a G5 it looks like the mirror in your bathroom. I didn't realize how much NVH comes from the stock bearings. They were expensive but I hate doing shit twice, especially bearings.
