I hope Dimitris got you straightened out. Your AFR table is problematic in several ways.
|
I will swap my basemaps over when I get home from work (weather permitting) Once I learn how to give props you have some coming your way Dimitris.

Why would my fuel table be so much lower than most peoples? Mine being the bottom 2 maps compared to Golferlukes? Using the new base map Dimitris gave me my AFR table is different but my VE Table is very similar to what it was. my new AFR and VE table https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1345598541 |
Justin, don't worry about the VE numbers. They are dimensionless and work in conjunction with your "Req. Fuel" setting and the characteristics of your injectors. We all end up with different VE tables. All you need for VE is a starting point, which you already have.
Do endeavor to come up with a decent AFR target table. The AFR target table (along with your wideband readings) is the basis for either autotuning or tuning with MegaLog Viewer's tuning console. Fuel tuning is ridiculously easy. It'll take me about 5 minutes to show you how to do it. Once you see it, it will make perfect sense. Sharing ignition tables and AFR target tables on the forum is a worthwhile endeavor. Sharing VE tables is a waste of time. |
Looks like a great start to your build. I always like seeing more turbo miata's in Tx
|
I only touched the AFR table, use autotune in easy mode to get the VE table back in shape.

I'm guessing my lower numbers are the bigger injectors punping out less fuel for my AFR target? Think I am starting to catch on.
Car runs and drives pretty "decent", good enough to get to your door Rick! |
Not sure whether it's proper etiquette to post a first hand account on someone else's build.
Ahhh . . . what the heck. Spent some quality time with Justin yesterday afternoon. I think he's over the steep initial MS learning curve. I expect he'll be one of the MS gurus in no time. It was cool to see the differences between MS1 and MS2. We went for a drive. Nice build. Quality parts. I am especially impressed with that Artech exhaust. 3" but with a mellow, deep tone. Not loud at all. In fact, I'm so impressed that I'm going to get one for myself. :burncash: Will be way better than the cludged up exhaust I'm running now. Curly, if you're reading this and you haven't already ordered one to uncork your exhaust, you shouldn't hesitate. My latest PM from Justin has him running reliably to 15PSI and he's tuning away. I can't wait to see a new VD pull. His car is strong. It's a lot of fun to actually meet some of you guys in person. My wife was laughing at me . . . "Oh, isn't that cute. They're doing carguy stuff." :makeout: |
I am reading this! Creepy. I have ordered a 3", great to hear another stellar review. It should be in the mail this week in fact.
Edit: tell us more about your ms1/ms2 experience. What you liked, what you didn't like. |

Rick, I appreciate all of your help and that you warmly welcomed me into your home. A deep deep learning curve has been accomplished this week and I can not wait to learn more about this EFI crap!
For my exhaust I have no complaints. I highly suggest anyone needing more umph and a great sounding exhaust to go with Abe's work. He really builds a piece of art, almost to nice to put on the car and not be displayed on my wall! I will for sure be posting some videos soon. I still have some tuning to do to bump down my required fuel so I am focusing on that first. For now I am just going over the basics, running 12psi shooting for 15 tonight. Rick has one sweet ride. Mine can not even compare to how well built his is. He did an amazing job with his build. The car is so smooth on and off throttle, hell even on our rough roads his suspension rides like a dream. I can not wait to get this car running perfect, I owe it all to Rick and you guys for sharing your knowledge helping us newbies out. Rick, my next joy ride is the other silver mistress you have in the garage! I am looking forward to meeting up again soon. |

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1345416900 for that turbo, yes. but fix the damn boost :) |
How does 15 sound Brain? This is still my learning turbo, it will suck once I have a bigger and better turbo, i will want to boost more and more

Dislikes: Nothing. It's an evolutionary improvement of the breed, just better all around. A better processor allows faster computation, larger tables for finer tuning resolution, more features, etc., etc. I'd imagine that MS3 is to MS2 as MS2 is to MS1. Likes: These are some of the features I think are significant improvements because they were such a PITA to setup in MS1: 1. Idle with AC. There is a duty cycle increment that is triggered upon compressor engagement. Ahhhhhhh . . . . On the MS-1, this is such a pain. I've implemented spark table switching, additional air with the purge valve and even switched refrigerants to deal with this. And the whole time, all I needed was this one little feature! BTW, I'm not sure if this is standard MS fare or one of Dimitri's software tricks. But it's great. 2. Closed Loop EBC. The MS-1 algorithm is integral-only and takes some effort to setup (you have to intelligently switch between open and closed-loop control and tune both). The algorithm I saw on the MS-2 was true PID control. Much easier to setup and tune. 3. Two overboost protection limits. The MS-2 has two boost control tables available and each can be setup with an individual overboost limit. Nice if you're a dual fuel type. I'll bet if I played with it more, there would be other things. But these are what popped out to me. |
1 is available on my firmware and on gslender's firmware. Mine is a little more sophisticated.
2 is standard on all firmware versions 3 is only available on my firmware |
This is partially why "hate" my simple car
1. No AC 2. No EBC 3. No need for duel boost limits Although with MS2, I very well might add the EBC. Can the boost limit be change via software changes only? Like could I break in a clutch at 10 psi, then with the press of a button on my lap top have 15? This is of course assuming a wastegate-only pressure less than 10 psi. |
Yes, it is possible, not through a click, but rather either load a different table for the EBC or switch to the second table through the external switch if you have an Enhanced MS2.

much much more fine tuning needed, adjusted my req_fuel and VE table so I am starting over with my fuel. Results aren't bad for a shitty tune, ignore the beginning I was shifting through gears.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1345924867 No more tuning til tomorrow, time for my other other enjoyments http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...70692351_n.jpg |
Someone's having fun. That torque curve is straightening out nicely.
|
Think it is time for a new wastegate, seems all I can get out of this one is 11psi even when I adjust my EBC settings, quite strange.
Hopefully my order on my 6uls gets shipped out this week, planning on buying some new tires in the next few weeks then the car gets torn down and completely redone for paint! After we custom build my rollbar of course :) |
What's the latest? More tuning progress or are you torn down?
|
Just returned from my vacation so I am yet to do anything!
Before I left I happened to pickup a 99 longblock pretty damn cheap. I am debating on parting out or making a monster out of it. A big turbo and a built 99 does sound nice but my transmission and gears will definitely need to be swapped out! I still have quite a bit of tuning to do with my autotuning, car runs great but it could be better. Very very exciting being in 3rd gear and lighting the tires up going down the highway! :giggle: Don't think I will be able to do that once my 6uls and new tires get here (hopefully next week my 6uls ship out) |
Seems I need to sell my car :(
I have a great racing opportunity ahead of me that I will be pursuing. I am already regretting the thought of selling the car but I am focused on the future ahead of me! Not looking forward to this lol |
Whaaaaat but you're just getting started and you made it past most of the hurdles! You don't have the money to support this and your racing opportunity I presume. What is it you're getting into exactly?
If you part it out, I call the DP and exhaust! |
haha car runs damn good but it will definitely help to have some extra cash for my racing. For several years I have been trying to make my way into some professional stock car racing series in NASCAR. I tested for ARCA last December (which is why I sold my NB miata) and now I have a shot at a few different series in California. Everything costs money which I don't have, $250,000 for small series but luckily I know a few people that may be willing to pull out the cash as a sponsor. I just need the right opportunity.
|
Well the nice weather made me fall in love with the car again, so car is no longer for sale. Things didn't pan out like I had hoped but good news is I am not going to make the same mistake I did last time.
6uls shipped this evening from California, looking forward to getting them! Buying some RS3's to throw on and building myself a street cage in the next few weeks. After that I plan to rebuild my 99 with forged internals, worked head and a big turbo. Time to start breaking shit :) Pics to come soon!!!!!! |
Glad you kept it. Nice build and great numbers! Too mad mine didnt end up so well.
RS3's are great, just dont drive in the rain. |
No worries about driving in the rain here. Well, other than today. When it rains, we get REALLY excited.
|
Seeing rain is like the chance of seeing snow, very rarely does it ever happen here in town.
Very glad I talked myself out of selling the car, think I am even more excited about continuing it then I was before I started even building it! |
It has been awhile since I have updated so I figure I shall do so. I've got the car running great til I decided to run 15psi. I blew a I/c coupler and found a slight oily substance so I figure my seals are leaking. I want you guys input, should I rebuild or put a bigger turbo on? If new turbo what should I go for? I want to blow Shit up it gives me a reason to buy better lol currently running a small t25 and want to use the same flanges so I can use my same exhaust parts. Any suggestions?
|
What seals?

Chinacharger 2870 ftw

Turbos don't have oil seals. Either the bearing is toast or you have just a little oil mist on overrun.
BB or JB? |

BB or JB? BB or JB, explain? |
Ball bearing or journal bearing?
Shaft play? A little oil is normal for all turbos. What restrictor are you running? |
Preferably journal since it is rebuildable but if I can find a good deal on a ball bearing I wouldn't mind.
No shaft play if any it is very minimul, restrictors are: Compressor: T-25, 60 trim 56mm BCI-1 compressor. Turbine: T-25, 62 trim 53.8mm 0.64 A/R turbine housing. |
lol
|
i will slap you
|
Justin, you're out-Treying Trey. Just run the bitch! Heck, you're not even broken in yet.
|
Well I just bought my tires and will soon be building my cage. I'm already use to this power and want more! I'm a spoiled brat is what I am but thats common around these forums :)

I guess I shouldn't be to disappointed in my build as I got my first kill the other night.
Coming home from my sister/brother in laws house an 01 mustang wanted to toy with me around 1 in the morning. I heard him downshift and honk at me so I dropped to 4th and smoked his ass. We pulled over to talk and he claimed he has a professional tune, headers, exhaust and cams/intake done to his car. He has seen me around with my gauges and has been trying to find me to see what I got, well know he knows :fawk: My car pulls pretty good at 15psi but I want more lol Any other suggestions on turbo (keeping my current t25 mani/DP) other than cowboys suggestion of a Chinacharger 2870? Tires come in Wednesday so I will finally get rid of those damn daisies and have a nice set of 6uls on her. The only other thing I want to do is build this 99, or swap heads which may be easier at this point. |
I have plans for a similar build here. I'm going to be using a sr20 t25 first, then move up to any number of other t2 flanged turbos available. This is one I had in mind, it seems like the 240 guys say you cant go wrong with it.
*ISIS RS3871 Turbo - Nissan SR20DET - Enjuku Racing Parts, LLC |
How responsive is the spool on that? I don't want anything that will lag, my t25 hits 15psi almost instantly
|
Impressive that you killed anything other than mosquitoes (with smoke) on those tires!
Maybe I should come looking for you with the G8. My Miata's still down. Haven't had a day off in a month and a half. Too much travel. |
It surprised me as well, can't wait to get the rs3s!!
How much longer will you be out? I plan to ship my ECU back to Dimitris and possibly swap over my 99 head on the car so I will be down over the winter. |
I have the china 2870 and slaughtered stockish '01-09 Mustang GTs and Mach 1s at the eighth mile track in a full weight car at 8-9psi on street tires. Car lengths. Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised. Boost rises quickly from 3-4000 rpm. Anything above 3800 is quickly spooled. If I'm below 4000 I should be downshifting anyway. I went with the larger turbo for reduced heat at equivalent power levels because it is for HPDE in Florida and heat is a bitch. It has a three inch downpipe and exhaust.

That looks awesome.

Much nicer In person.

Mmmm I love me some 6uls

Wanting a new turbo!!!!!! What are your thoughts on Drew's new GT2871 he has for sale?
https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-par...-gt2871-68851/ |
That one is different from mine in that mine had red plastic compressor inlet and outlet covers, lol. Mine was $250 shipped and came with gaskets and studs. Mine has TBO cast into the turbine housing. TBO is the factory where many of the Chinese turbos are made.
|
What does it seem like that turbo may be? Could yo link me to one I should consider I would appreciate it!
|
|
Seem to be pretty similar, any suggested one of the three?
