Will they pass the broomstick test AND not be any higher than stock? Or just pass the broomstick test?

I can just about pass a broomstick test with the A4s, but they sit higher than stock.

And do they really bolt up to stock sliders? That's rad.

I need to sit in one, obviously.

turbofan 01-21-2015 05:38 PM

They are lower than stock because it's a sling seat. They're uncomfortable for long drives because it's a sling seat.

My Sprint V with the standard sparco sidemounts bolted straight on to my stock sliders into both the driver and passenger positions (had to move the sliders a bit to fit in driver side but it still all worked).

I loved the seat for track. EDIT: I never drove the track in this seat. I really mean I loved the seat in aggressive driving and it would have been great on the track.

Roomy and incredible holding, and VERY stiff seat. But the sling design pushes buttcheeks together, and there's a metal bar that runs around the front of the seat (the steel seat frame) that kinda cuts into the back of my legs as a driver. Exacerbated because I have to have the seat further back for proper heel toe (ankle screwed up, doesn't move as much as regular folk so I need my seat even further back).

18psi 01-22-2015 10:06 AM

lol there's the haters, then there's the anti-hate haters, and so on

They do look sooo good tho.

turbofan 01-22-2015 03:07 PM

Those are gonna look awesome on the car.

What rubber are you going to put on those 9's? I just ordered Federal RSR's, gonna rock some stretch for a bit.

concealer404 01-22-2015 03:12 PM

Gonna wait to see what goes on with the RS3 situation for a little bit before i go with some stretch swag.

Tanro 01-22-2015 03:43 PM

Im actually a fan of this color.

turbofan 01-22-2015 03:48 PM

Finally after much digging found a pic of the 205/50/15 RSR mounted on a 9" wheel. Stretch doesn't look too bad to me. Yeah would prefer 225's but this'll work. Better than the RE-11's that were on my white car.

Yeah that's not the worst thing in the world. We'll play it by ear.

Jeffbucc 01-22-2015 04:49 PM

I hate how cheap you got this...the only thing I have to add to this.

I should have started with an NB shell...would have been cheaper if I built it the same way I did the NA

:dealwithit:

:bowrofl:

I have a new pair of front hubs on the way. Once i get that and the brakes taken care of, i should be able to start putting some miles on it to see what else bothers me. Front end feels a bit weird, but i'm hoping that's mostly from the shot driver's front hub.

Next on the list of "Wants."
1) AWR 70A mounts
2) Delrin diff mounts
3) Miataroadster tall angled shifter
4) CSF radiator
5) Swap my NA Singular vent louver panels for some NBs. That's gonna suck because i got the NAs at group buy prices. :(
6) Suspension bushings
7) RB big front bar
8) RB header
9) figure out exhaust things
10) intake for noises.

If Good-Win is using my picture of the unboxed vents in their product listing, do you think i could twist their arm for some discount? :giggle:

Greasemonkey2000 01-22-2015 05:06 PM

Looks like some fine choices on the parts list, wish I had got the tall angled MR shifter because I am on my second MR angled shift extender and both have bent :vash: but I do love the MR srs. I think the CSF radiator will be the new budget, not cheap, radiator. Look forward to the progress Ben, although wish boost was in there. :hustler:

concealer404 01-22-2015 05:12 PM

Maybe a Rotrex if the car sticks around for a long time and i feel like sinking some money into it.

Leafy 01-22-2015 05:32 PM

No oil cooler or brake stuff on that list?

Guess i need to list the parts i already have in my garage. My bad.

1) Hardtop + SM brackets
2) Boss Frog Clearview
3) Boss Frog harness bar
4) Boss Frog Frog Arms
5) Boundary Engineering frame rails
6) Carbing shock tower brace. (Bling BLANG!)
7) Corbeau A4s (don't particularly love these in Miatas, so they're temporary.)
8) Autopower 5pt harnesses
9) Swank Force Racing Budget Billy setup
10) Momo competition wheel and hub
11) NB Sport brakes with Yellowstuff pads. (For now. Will use them up then evaluate if just a pad change will do it or if i want the Trackspeed front kit)
12) Coolant re-route

Oil cooler is on the "eventually" list. Been doing some light research to see how i want to attack that.

Care package from Emilio.

Hubs. Thought my car had ABS, so i ordered ABS hubs. Turns out the car doesn't have ABS. Will these still work?
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422137564

Last looks at the awful interior.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1422137564

Saggy glovebox.

Nice top.

Monk 01-24-2015 08:44 PM

Should be fine. The ABS hubs are a bit beefier, but the rings are just pressed on. You can pop them off fairly easily.

concealer404 01-25-2015 11:37 AM

Now that 949's sport clutches are gone, what's the flavor of 1.6 clutch we all like?

curly 01-25-2015 11:48 AM

Well, the horror stories include: "oh god why did I buy an eBay flywheel when the 949 lightweight 1.6 flywheel is only $129 more..."

For 1.6 size, SPEC or ACT are really your only choices of decent clutches. FM and others just use 1.8 sizes and tell you to buy a 1.8 flywheel.

Honestly, even at only 172ft/lbs, I wish I had a 1.8 sized clutch instead of my 1.6 949 clutch, since launch control over heats it. Actually I haven't set my boost controller back to the dyno pressures, so that's probably closer to 160ft/lbs or less.

concealer404 01-25-2015 11:54 AM

No forced induction for me. Still a problem?

Leafy 01-25-2015 11:56 AM

But this is going to be on an N/A car.

Honestly I wouldnt be too afraid of any of the steel ebay flywheels, the aluminum ones with steel friction plates added in, not so sure about those. The F1 chromo in the subaru still hasnt managed to cut my feet off yet.

curly 01-25-2015 12:13 PM

I'd invest in the 949 one just to be safe myself. Then try a SPEC clutch. Something with a grabby organic.

Although I think the FMII clutch is ceramic, and I've driven one in Ed's MSM and I think Stoly's new NB has one. Takes a little getting used to, but the crisper shifts once you get moving are very worth it.

concealer404 01-25-2015 12:17 PM

949 isn't available, no ETA. FM doesn't do 1.6 as far as i know.

Erat 01-25-2015 04:21 PM

My SPEC clutch sucked. Worst thing i've ever used.

concealer404 01-25-2015 04:28 PM

Wondering if a basic Exedy would be fine. Or a South Bend. I know nobody uses SB clutches on Miatas but i've used them on everything my entire "career."

I dunno. More shopping necessary.

What composition and stuff am I looking for if I put importance on fast response? Ceramic? Kevlar?

My clutch is orange, not pink, so I'm not quite sure what it is.

I have an F1spec 1.6 in mine atm. I loved my previous Spec though.

both are/were on a steel 1.6 FujiRacing flywheel from the last decade lol

Leafy 01-25-2015 07:29 PM

You could try welding some used brake pads together. Would probably be about equal to a spec clutch but for less money.

Godfuckingdammit i forgot you had those mounts. Send me an email at celicahalftrac gmail.

I can try to get my order cancelled. Ordered through MR, got hit with a drop ship fee i'm not super happy with anyways.

Ceramic. That's the one people describe as on/off. Like I said, Stoly has a fermi. FMII and Ed has a 949 colored ceramic clutch that's not a 949 clutch. Both feel great.

EO2K 01-25-2015 09:47 PM

Ryan_G actually has the mounts right now as he wanted to try them out.

As for the sway, I've got the big boy RB sitting in my garage as its listed in my FS thread. AND I've still got the M-Tuned dual feel fuel rail plumbing kit you said you wanted sitting on my desk at the office

Mobius 01-25-2015 11:26 PM

My FM Stage 1 feels great, looks fine after 2k track miles. Would buy again. Pedal effort is light enough that Curly can easily drive the car.

Girz0r 01-25-2015 11:32 PM

FM2 clutch & lightweight flywheel = fullofwin. I enjoy mine. Noticed rpms come up much faster during highway speeds in 5-6 gear in my msm. Will buy again.

EO2K 01-25-2015 11:53 PM

FM1 clutch + aluminum flywheel is also win. No complaints here.

Transmission is a little noisy with that light a flywheel, but I'll live.

aidandj 01-26-2015 12:00 AM

I too have FM with Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel. Like it so far.

Erat 01-26-2015 12:54 PM

Ben is the only person in the history of ever to not like the FM clutch from what i can tell.

And the FM clutch in the red 2000. Everyone who drove either of those cars hated the clutch. I installed neither of them.

The point is, i'm sure they're awesome and lots of people like them.

I don't feel like paying that money and chancing hating it again and having to do the job a second time.

And they don't make 1.6 clutch anyways, so why are we talking about them?

BoostedSmurf 01-26-2015 01:15 PM

My FM clutch sucked too but that was probably 95% my fault

Braineack 01-26-2015 01:18 PM

and this was the FM clutch and not the ACT clutches they used to sell?

the FMI and FMII are two of the best clutches I've driven on.

concealer404 01-26-2015 01:29 PM

FM1 in both cases.

Both clutches had an engagement point the length of Texas.

I've heard great things about the FM2, but that seems silly for an n/a BP4W.

And again... it's not 1.6, so i really don't care about FM clutches in general right now.

I'd like to point out that Ryan_G is borrowing the mounts. I'm not reinstalling them so they will be for sale if he decides to pass on them.

Ryan_G 01-26-2015 01:54 PM

I feel that it is far more likely that I will just buy them unless they rattle me to death. Especially now that I have a secondary vehicle in case I need to transport someone who is less forgiving.

Yes. Supposedly a small power bump and will play nice as a stopgap if i get a BP5A cam. Also the car the ECU came from had a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold that probably flows better than the stock garbage we got here, so it'll go nicely with the RB header i'll be ordering in the next week or two. :)

And no emissions, so i can remove that shit even before i go Megasquirt.

And because no emissions, i can remove the cat that PO said was bad and causing CELs (though i haven't seen one yet) and not care. Bonus for not having to buy my midpipe twice.

It's a stopgap that while may seem silly in light of going megasquirt eventually anyways, allows me to steam forward with a few things in the meantime and not spend my money twice elsewhere. Me gusta.

SchmoozerJoe 01-28-2015 12:23 PM
