Most people JB Weld the drain fitting into the oil pan.
Looks like fun. |
Why'd they pull the motor? (also, lol at dumping the tranny oil out the back of it while pulling it)

P 'n P 'n pizza.
i like the gold valve cover. |
also, do we have a trophy we can give out to noobs who turbo their car before 10 posts? or should we make people with over 1000 posts and no turbo pay for their subscription.

hmmm I like both ideas, how about both? lol __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
good idea on pulling the motor, too bad you didn't put the oil drain further back.
If I were doing a turbo install and pulling the trans, I'd yank the motor. |

i figured pulling the motor would free up alot of room while putting the turbo parts on..plus the block looks like its from the movie saw so it will see a good cleaning and paint. |
If I were doing it again from scratch and putting in a clutch at the same time, damn straight the motor/trans would be coming out.

Awesome progress with awesome pictures to match! Nice work.

Nice pics, looks like you're making good progress so far. At this rate 10 days should be no problem. :bigtu:
Let me know how you like the tru-boost, I bought mine used and it's complete garbage. Not sure if it's just got some issues or if they're all crap. I'm just using mine as a boost gauge now, and it's still pretty much useless (reading +18psi when I'm logging 13psi  ) |

well car is all done as of 2:55 in the morning...
well sorta. all the pnp fuctions worked great..except for the datalogging wich made tuning a nightmare... aem wideband setting were uploaded to use with pnp and it ran great using a write up i found on the boards..(thanks guy) took a quick lunch break before tuning..go in the garage and the megasquirt wont reconize the aem gauge and started reading in volts again...fuck! so i wasted about 3 hours wiring and rewiring the 0-5v analog wire for pnp and nothing... so i said whatev and desided to go tune a little without datalogging...fucking nightmare. than the afr gauge on the megatune started working..yes! outa nowhere its good..so i did a couple more pulls and tuned for about 30 more mins. just cleaning everything up and bang..no afr readings..piss! so i gotta call diyautotune and see whats going on...but the car is very fun..11.5 all through the charts at WOT. it was a little colder out tonight so it was spiking from 8(preset) to about 10 psi once and a while. the butt dyno is seeing around 210-220 whp... i could be off, im used to 2500 pound cars not 1500. throttle response is a little iffy due to the stock tps and not having time for the bimmer swap.. the coolant guauge on the cluster isnt registering for some reason also..gotta check the t-stat housing sensor in the morning. o yea...the alternator belt flew off too for some reason. so yes i enjoyed building and tuning this miata in 10 days..was it frustrating at times yes. i expecting normal hang ups thats what i got...normal automotive problems so no biggie. i can say my happy factor with the begi kit is about a 5-10. heres my reasons. flame on h-mos good: very very nice instruction manual (didnt use it tho) very very good customer service..stephanie was kick ass on the phone and shipped me parts asap kit made good power and seems to work well came with everything....if i needed something it was in a begi bag easy to install bad: kinda expensive for what it is manifold: had to grind down a head stud due to rubbing with runner 2 and making it impossible to thread on a bolt. looks like thin wall ss... welds are about a 3-10 downpipe: was well made but the design was so so the connection bolt to keep the top and bottom half together is welded so that the head of the bolt and the head of the nut are facing the tranny making it impossible to looses from underneath. oil line was a hair short and kind sits on runner 3...no biggie was it fun to kinda dive into something i know nothing about and have it come out as great as it did, yes. |
I think you need to reinstall one of the bolts from the AC Bracket. I read on here before if you dont it leads to oil pump failure.

Good to see you got it done. From zero to turbo in 20 posts. Must be a record.
|
Very nice....but I'd be surprised if that car was really 1500 lbs. You'd be hardpressed to be below 2K with all the OEM crap still in it.
