It puts a new engine in the hole?

Braineack 10-08-2009 05:56 PM

si. the motor is not the epic part (in fact it's weaksauce), just the task we have at hand this weekend.

Ben 10-08-2009 06:04 PM

What's your motor build?

Braineack 10-08-2009 08:23 PM

coated stock pistons and chromo moly rings....

levnubhin 10-08-2009 08:56 PM

No rods?

y8s 10-08-2009 10:35 PM

no rods for whatever reason.

Yes, there will be some bolts.

Picture above are my high end components. I really dipped into my wallet and even purchased a $20 timing belt kit instead of reusing the current one like I wanted to. I even decided to drop another $20 on a water pump, cause I'm baller like that. And the best part of of the entire build are my $70 chromo moly rings that I really splurged on.

jesus, look at this thing....can you believe it cost $20. You know you're jealous:

Mach929 10-09-2009 08:41 AM

what's wrong with your motor now?

Stein 10-09-2009 08:50 AM

You have as much $ in your break in and good oil and filters than you have in your rebuild !

Braineack 10-09-2009 08:54 AM

since the last dyno day in may it's been spitting oil, burning oil and smoking on decel. It still makes good compression and runs great around town. I've replaced the turbo and did my steam seals and it's just getting worse now smoking on heavy acceleration. I did about 5-6 autoxes and each time someone would mention a puff of blue smoke, i ignored it, by the 6th event the amount of people mentioning it and the announcer making fun of me, i decided it's time to do something.

when I looked at my dyno from that event and the videos it's evident something happened on my first pull. With my rear end being damaged the way it was it took my nearly 10 seconds longer to reach redline in 4th, my torque was crazy low, yet i still made 230rwhp. I have a feeling all the load from the dyno and bad rear made my pistons work overtime and must have damaged the rings or something.

almost. thats the part I wasn't happy about :P

still, what's going to be fun about this weekend is more about this game plan:

Order of operations
  • Pull motor out of Brian's Car
  • Swap Head and accessories from old motor onto new motor
  • Install new clutch disc on motor
  • Install 6 speed transmission onto new motor
  • Install all turbo parts onto motor
  • Install motor assembly back into car.
  • Perform first start, checking for leaks
  • Change oil after idling at 2k rpm for 20 min
  • Change oil and filter again after running another 5 min
  • Rebuild old motor out of Brian's car for Scott
  • Pull motor out of Scott's car
  • Swap Head and accessories from old motor onto new motor
  • Install turbo parts onto motor
  • Install motor assembly back into car.
  • Perform first start, checking for leaks
  • Change oil after idling at 2k rpm for 20 min
  • Change oil and filter again after running another 5 min
  • Test drive both cars, retune fuel
  • Profit!

Okee dokee. Well at least the bosses in the waterpump are threaded. I've seen 1.6 pumps come from Mazda where you had to tap them yourself.

I think I might have just swapped shortblocks.

Braineack 10-09-2009 09:21 AM

i am, but im freshing it up in the process, im not going to be using current block, im going to use neo's once we swap his built motor in first.

Ben 10-09-2009 09:32 AM

Yeah I meant swapping in a good, unmolested block.

It would drive me nuts to not replace the rods and wear parts.

Braineack 10-09-2009 10:57 AM

yeah. it is. dont rub it in.

triple88a 10-09-2009 11:04 AM

hopefully that water pump dont sound like a supercharger :)

Braineack 10-09-2009 12:03 PM

it already does:

I always thought maybe my timing belt was too tight or something, ive just been blaming my tranny for the last three years.
