ralliata is a little monster on the ice. Took 2nd place overall even against awd cars.

That's looks like so much fun! Have any video?

m2cupcar 01-16-2018 08:36 AM

I'm impressed. That is a very large pile of cars to beat down! Nice job.

Swanpuppy 01-16-2018 09:31 AM

Maybe I missed it, where do you go ice racing? What organization?

Mobius 01-17-2018 10:11 AM

That looks like a ton of fun. Why is it listed as a 2001 though?

Keep in mind the "ST" suffix vs "SN" suffix denotes if the car had studded or snow tires. Obviously that makes a huge difference. Still cool to place up top against the other studded tire cars.

CWSCC has been holding events. There's more this weekend. This one was up at Lake Dubay near Appleton.

I think he just threw a number in there. He doesn't really care and it doesn't matter for classing regardless. The car is/was definitely an NA6. We had it originally pre-registered as a Bentley Arnage to keep it a secret to others who knew he bought something but didn't know what.

Started the interior work that will be going on this year. Hoping to have it all together by MATG so I don't need to drive 9 hours one-way in an uninsulated noisy cabin.

Planning on removing all of the existing ugly and worn tan interior and updating to the following parts with the goal of having the lightest "complete" interior possible. If any of you are aware of where I can score a deal on this stuff Id appreciate any pointers.

LRB hyrid NA/NB panels
NA upper door pads (black)
NA6 Dash (black) complete with wiring harness
NA6 center console w/ power window switch (black)

Scored a full set of clean black NB1 carpets, black seat belt tower trim, package shelf trim, and black door sills for $175 off Craigslist.

Their website seems to be a bit dated. Is there a list of upcoming events listed anywhere? Or should I try and send a generic email on the website. Looks like something fun that might be worth trying out.

Padlock 01-18-2018 03:08 PM

I usually check into CWSCC or FVSCC's facebook page. that seems to be where they are most active and up to date.

can you give a link to the stainless cables that you're using on the splitter? sounds like what I'm looking for.

Padlock 01-23-2018 06:16 PM

Here's links to all the parts you may use depending on your setup.

So TLDR: Does anyone have a VF40?

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...2207f2507b.jpg

Long story:
I would like to emphasize my dislike for the subaru brand. Was on my way to a friends house for the weekend, about 4 miles away, cruise set at 75, and suddenly hear some awful humming noises and the car doesnt make any more boost and can barely keep speed. I limp it to his place to avoid an inevitable police conversation and expensive tow bill on the side of the busy hwy.

Luckily my buddy had a truck and trailer to get it home with later that night. Had a chance to pull the turbo last night and ill let the video do the talking

Subaru in their infinite wisdom put an oil feed line screen on the VF40 legacy's, which in time clogs with fine particulates, starves the journal bearing, seizes the shaft, then the exhaust pressure essentially snaps the turbine wheel off and causes all sorts of wonderful noises. Absolutely ridiculous to have a car do this, but whatever. its what makes a subaru a subaru i guess. Will not ever buy one again. Luckily i got the car cheap, so i'm crossing fingers there will still be profits to be made on it in 2 months when a for sale sign goes on it.

So in the meantime while the subaru is under the knife, meet the new winter beater! if you want to know fear, get behind the wheel of this bad boy with half tread 295 extreme contact sports on snowy roads. once you get moving (which takes some time in the snow) you have a hell of a time stopping. Luckily it is just my cul-du-sac that doesnt get plowed, everything else is somewhat possible to drive on when salted. The accelerator pedal is solely a noise-maker at this point, no forward movement occurs from pressing it, just idle everywhere for all the traction the tires can hold. But hey, at least i have heated seats and look like a boss... the things i do to keep my NB rust free.... (before you ask, the V has been driven in winter by a PO, so while its pretty externally, its not minty underneath with thousands of moneys in brand new suspension parts like the miata has)

Yep, seen that trick before. What year is it again?

Padlock 02-13-2018 02:00 PM

have you ever looked at what snow tires/wheels for a CTS-V cost? they'd be on the car right now if they were a realistic price. I'm lucky, it looks like this week the weather will be above freezing. The roads have been clear since yesterday so all is okay at the moment.

the Subaru is a 2005

Padlock 02-18-2018 09:00 PM

Pictures of the carnage... Odd that the turbo shaft still freely spins without issues.. Shaft doesnt appear seized like initially thought to be..

Figured out just about every quirk of working on a Subaru engine the last couple days... Old coolant return lines don't like to seal without the replacement of the spring clamps with worm clamps as I found out after my initial test drive
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...1edac6832a.jpg

Got the coolant system topped off, oil changed, and back on the road. Took it to work this morning and so far so good. Total repair cost of like $150... not bad

Padlock 03-03-2018 12:42 PM

Subaru threw me another curveball... this time a game-ender.. timing belt tensioner failed which caused a glorious metallic symphony of noises under the hood. There goes that plan of flipping this for a profit, time to cut my losses on it and never buy a Subaru again. lesson learned.

While trying to recoup what I can from the Subie, I'm enjoying $2/gallon for E85. Flex fuel may be my favorite feature ever. At no point, does anyone need this much power in a daily driver, but it puts one heck of a smile on my face everyday

In Miata news, I have an exciting development coming up. Procuring an important piece to the build in the next week or so. Stay tuned.
