Yep, fast enough to get you in trouble, enjoy the car!! What the hell was that big ole American Dodge PU doing across the pond?

There are a couple of US airbases in the area, namely RAF Alconbury and RAF Molesworth. Consequently, you see a lot of American-sourced cars on the roads, of which that particular Dodge is probably the most "I refuse to be Anglicised" of the lot.

Sounds awesome. Race track noises.

UPDATE!!!!!!
The car… er… works. Idle doesn't like this unusually hot weather - it sometimes stalls, which is annoying. Will be sorted at some point. Chicks dig it though, yo. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1373219767 |
Glad the car is working well for you. Keep it safe, and send us some track day video!!

Thanks Hingston. I'm not going to take it on track until I'm totally happy with it, which is not yet. I get my track/motorsport fix from racing this thing every few weekends ---> https://www.facebook.com/video/embed...52789924450398 (Very turbocharged, very similar power to weight ratio to your turbocharged monster) so I'm not desperate to get the Mazda on track. It was always designed to be a road car that I use every single day, which I do.
Anyway, idle sorted at Torque Developments, along with smoothing the map out, which has subtly transformed the engine and makes me realise why I love this particular drivetrain. Took around three hours on the hub dyno and half an hour of road testing on Saturday. All was done free of charge. Can't argue with that. Bad news is that the car has lost between ten and 15 horsepower across the >entire< rpm range since it was last on this dyno (yes, after all corrections) probably because of the chain stretching and throwing out the exhaust cam timing. If it was the new exhaust causing this, you'd expect to see a bottleneck in the curve, or weird resonances, or something, not a total drop across the board. I'm not really that fussed though, because the engine is now extremely good fun to use as opposed to simply being 'pretty' good fun. And, perhaps due to this fundamental cam timing change, it is considerably more flamey than it used to be... |
Love the double chick picture.
Props. |
If anyone's interested, I'm going to a meet this Friday at Nene Valley Brewery in Oundle. Home
I've been a couple of times before - it's the only car meet I've ever been to - and this is the last one of the year as the nights are drawing in. There's normally a good selection of interesting cars there. Caterham, Lotus, TVR, all the usual suspects. I'll obviously be taking the MX5, and if anyone wants a ride, they'd be more than welcome. It runs from 530 to 9pm. I'll be there between 6 and 8pm. |
All times are GMT -4. The time now is 01:59 PM. |
