I have picked up the car from Curly. Before I got back, Oregonmon spent some time detailing it. What did I do to deserve friends like this?
We still have to do the official paperwork, but the check's in the mail, and for all intents and purposes the car is mine.
Did a PCA autocross on Sunday, and saw more Miatas at one event than I've seen any other time in Portland. 10 if I count right. 'Sup bros?
Most all of the miatas in this shot:
Ed's (Turbofan's) engine bay:
Ed living the poverty "painter's tape numbers" lyfe:
Oregonmon's VVT swapped NA:
Baby Curly, napping contentedly to the hum of the engine her daddy built:
More baby Curly:
After action report: The autocross was a blast. No prep at all. Didn't check tire pressures, nuthin. Overdrove the **** out of it like a boss noob. The tires are, umm, "Wan Li" specials. They're great. Who am I to complain? Nobody, that's who. However I will say they are not up to modern autocross tire grip level standards. Much loss of traction occurred.
I have data and video, will work on getting that together. We should start a pool on max lateral G, to the hundredths. These are 205/45R16 Wan Li specials on stock NB2 alloys. Tein Street somethings.

Many things have happened the last 24 hours. Money done been changing hands all over the place! Our Odyssey's been in the shop, getting the AC fixed (only a bad relay for the compressor clutch) along with timing belt and miscellaneous 90k service items, leaving us with only the Miata for transport.
First Oregonmon stopped by after lunch. He was supposed to stop by FOR lunch, but somehow came to the conclusion that his lovely wife needing him to bring her something, and requesting his presence at lunch with her, outweighed his previous lunch commitment to me. Fine. Whatever. We went to the garage. We talked boost and looked at things. We had beer, as men do when they are in the garage talking boost and looking at things. Now, this conversation has been going on in some form or another for the past 13 months. But yesterday, the conversation reached an ending.
Congrats Ryan, your car will be even more awesome.
So later last evening, we went to pick up a bike for my 10 year old, Oliver. It's a 2013, basically New Old Stock, has maybe 5 miles on it. the guy's girlfriend just didn't dig it. My 10yo has a carbon hardtail now. Good lord. Anyway, since Odyssey is getting worked on, took the miata. My wife insisted on taking her helmet, thinking she was going to ride the bike the 2 miles home. She honestly didn't believe me when I said "We'll just strap it to the roll bar."
Then this morning, we went to see Turbofan at his place of work. Which, as you may or may not know, is a car dealership.
2 hours later: 2016 3.6R Limited Outback. Urrythang. Yes, it has it, whatever it is. Black interior. Zero percent financing and a sale going on. Who can say no? Thanks Ed! Another satisfied turbofan customer.
