1999 stock 1.8 litre with 75K miles; did not burn much oil if at all
MSPNP gen2 with 20 PSI turbo never been past 10 psi
with the new turbo, 1 quart/70 miles or so
Added valve cover venting; still burning oil
Had the head rebuilt. Still burning oil.
Did the compression and Leak-down tests with engine up to running temperature.
Cyl 1, plug dry, 195 comp, 4% leak
Cyl 2, plug dry, 195 comp, 5% leak
Cyl 3, plug dry, 195 comp, 5% leak
Cyl 4, plug dry, 197 comp, 5% leak
Sometimes with boost and sometimes without boost. it blows smoke
I think I have enough venting of the valve cover but it is mostly running through the OEM baffles. A couple lines are connected to the turbo intake for vacuum. PCV removed and vented to air with 1/2 inch port and hose
With the compression and Leak numbers, it doesn't look like rings (to me. but what do I know). Could it be a crack internal to the head causing oil to leak into the valve port? I have no idea where the oil journals and passage ways are in the head????
If you're going through a quart every 70 miles and not fouling the **** out of your plugs then it isn't being burned in the cylinders IMO. Either you're leaking it onto the ground or the turbo is leaking it in to the exhaust.
The turbo is clean. Nothing but carbon on the turbine side. Clean on the charge side. When you say fouled, what do you mean? They don't look great but there is no carbon build up
There is a constant blue-ish white smoke that come out the back when driving. There is not a drop of oil under it when I park it so hard to imagine there is a leak.
Why not? Does this forum have the market cornered on oil consumption. LOL. I am betting it is in the bottom but that is only because I fixed the top and it is still burning oil.

Fouled would be a great description. Similar to the plug on the far right from your video. I cleaned the piston heads, had the head rebuilt, and still burning the same amount of oil. I was not positive the head rebuild would fix the problem but it was the quickest and cheapest attempt I could make.

Not that I am aware of. My son had it at college. I have had it since and it was not burning oil when he gave it back to me. I did not overheat it. I just put the turbo in it. I don't the no I had the psi past 10 but can't watch that boost gauge all the time.
Pcv runs to catch can sans the pcv. Intake sealed. it is just a vent. I do have a ton in blow-by pressure even with two other 1/2 inch vents to turbo intake for vacuum. Still get air blowing at oil cap at idle.

Not currently but it was. I have been experimenting with ways to eliminate pressure under valve cover. Right now , no pcv valve. Vented to air through catch can. Intake side of pcv system sealed off for now. Still burning oil.
I closed off all the additional venting I did for the valve cover. I installed a check valve (PCV) and fed it back to the 3/8 port on the intake. Started it and no smoke for a while. I have a port on the turbo oil return in case I wanted to vent it. When I removed the cap, I had vacuum from the oil pan (I put the plug back in). After a bit, I was getting billowing white smoke. I am hoping this is just carbon burning off but not sure. Very white smoke like you get when you Seafoam the intake. I let it run for a few minutes longer but it is in my garage and the wind was blowing in...I am planning to let it cool and take it our for a bit (again, just like when you seafoam) and running up the rpms. Maybe the white smoke will stop after a bit? I am not usually that lucky so maybe not.
