New build thread - LS1 V8!
Here is what I have ordered so far:
- stock LS1 motor from '99 Camaro - stock T-56 transmission from another '99 Camaro - 8.8" Ford IRS rear end from '95 Thunderbird - Brand new Ford Racing limited slip differential w/ carbon fiber clutches - Ford rear end installation kit (gaskets, bearings, etc) Still need to order or fabricate: - Boss Frog subframe, transmission, and rear end swap kits - Axles/driveshaft - PCM re-flash + harness modifications - Headers - Exhaust - Clutch / flywheel Reasons to go with Boss Frog kit: - comes with EVERYTHING you need to install - no need to cut/weld transmission tunnel - really not much weight distribution difference as FM/V8R kit places motor only 1.5" rearwards and weights about the same About the car: - 1992 race prepped Miata - FM AFCO suspension w/ RB hollow front bar - Polyurethane bushings everywhere - Hard Dog cage - Sparco Sprint 5 seat |
Who wants to take bets on how long til he sell everything and starts another project?:giggle:

I'm not joking...as long as its not in the next six months. I love the turbo scene, but really wanna go LS myself deep down.
|
I bet this build thread will be full of just as much fail as the last. Good luck with the "project."

pics or it didnt happen. so what's next after all your parts come in?
|
guys at the shop are very excited and they cant wait to start on it :)
|
Jeez I wish I had the time, money and energy to do all the builds you have. I'd have kept one or two and driven the crap out of them though. Looking forward to seeing how this one goes and what the finished product ends up like. Of course, that's IF it gets finished.
I still think a turbo'd Honda K motor build would be killer. 400+ hp out of a light aluminum four banger. You're just the guy to do it too! |
Im sorry, I wasnt aware Honda and Miata went hand in hand. :p
Good luck with the build!!! I LOVE V8 Miatas just about as much as I love Turbo Miata's. Sub'n! cueball, where in Tigard are ya? :) EDIT: Im in Gresham. |
i hate fwd cars
|
wow, urbansoot with another pointless thread? wft i mean at some point doesn't he need a running project?

We are going to give it a try soon.. Just need to find a cheap, but decent shell to start the project! |

Man, I really hope that you go through with this one. I've only been on this forum a year or two and have seen two (now three) of your builds that generally go like this:
1: Hey, I'm going to build XXX 2: Lots of pics of purchased parts 3: No news for a while 4: Huge FS thread Like I said, I really hope this one goes through for you. Obama said that everyone DESERVES a V8 Miata. Really. Go Snopes it. |

LOL I really hope we're all wrong on this. Seriously. But I'm fairly new here and have already witnessed Slava go through like 3 projects none of which were finished. That really makes you wonder:noob:

great progress pics!!!

Urban...I don't have a lot of room to talk...but atleast I have a running turbo Miata.
You are really good at buying parts and "planning" a build...and not so good about installing them. Please go through with this. I'm sure it won't disappoint. Maybe you've just been waiting for the "right" build...well this has to be it. |
I hope your "shop guys" can get it in.

oh, and this time around im going to do a lot of shit myself so i know shit gets done :) right now we just need to refresh the motor a little, figure out what cam to run, get/install fuel cell, do final prep (alignment, tuning), then paint from another shop that owes me and off to willow springs raceway we go ;) deadline is mid-to-end of january for a running car. |

I'm busting your balls. So is all the engine bay work and wiring done, and the rear end in too, or is that also part of the 'just'? :giggle:

C rear end install kit is on its way from boss frog. already have carrier, rebuild/install kit, and diff itself. check out the thread on m.net about rear end: 8.8 rear end conversion axle measurements - MX-5 Miata Forum |

just ordered oil pump and that $200 trap-door oil pan insert. shit is coming together!
edit: motor has been refreshed (gaskets, seals, chain, etc) and the only missing piece at the moment is oil pump. |
