My 2004 MSM blew a rod this summer and I am officially beginning the rebuild.
Here's the plan:
1. Source a built short block.
2. Have head serviced.
3. Have BNR ugrade my turbo.
4. Install new radiator.
5. Install FlyinMiata coolant re-route.
6. Swap ring and pinion for at 3.63 - update speedo.
7. Hook it all up and pray, pray, pray.
Your guidance will be appreciated.
So, I recently purchased a short block from another forum member that was a leftover from an abandoned project. It has Wiseco 84.5 pistons and Pauter X beam rods. It arrived last week and I got it on the motor stand today. There is RTV everywhere. What's the preferred process for removing RTV without letting it clog an oil galley or squirter? Also, the end of the crankshaft that mates with the flywheel has a little scoring and discoloration on it (see pictures) is this within spec or will it eat the rear main seal? Is there anything else I should clean or attend to before installing the oil pump, MBSP, oil pan, etc? Your comments and thoughts would be appreciated.
I'll start assembling things once I find the courage.
