I'm saying that the fittings already had a pop rivet restrictor that in the past was known not to leak.

I'm trying to figure out how one determines if the restrictor is necessary without blowing a seal first. Thirdgen got back to me saying he installed it because he didn't want to risk blowing a seal.

What's too high a pressure for a JB turbo? I'm 99% sure the drain is a 10AN, so the line ID should be >14mm which is what I've seen recommended for drains.

I don't think you're going to blow a seal. The "seals" are steel rings, like a mini piston ring. It's not going to blow out, just leak if you flood the CHRA with oil pressure.

Ah okay, well. I ended up reusing the fitting with thirdgen's restrictor. Partially because I don't think he or I encountered any issues with it during use re:oil pressure. He also didn't have a leak with it so I think my fitting on the turbo itself was the issue. He's a bit of a nut when it comes to this stuff and I'm 100% that something not working in his setup would really piss him off. In any event, I think the .06 isn't really all that restricted compared to BB turbos.

The majority of the reason is the fitting I bought snapped in half when I was tightening the feed line to it... Not the bolt itself... the feed line. Must have sheared when I was snugging it up. Yuck. Luckily the oil feed hole was protected since it broke on the outside and that interface inside was in contact and above the break point.

I was going to paste a picture but the damn image uploader isn't working.

There is wayyyy to much thinking going on in this thread.
Just tighten your fittings and move on with your life.

most people get the turbo on in the first page, not the 12th

ridethecliche 05-25-2017 08:55 PM

Ugh. My build thread will never be as cool as Aidans :(

Or if you're like me, you blow your built motor (that had to be pulled and reinstalled 4 times because of an oil leak) by the third page and disappear for 6 months.

No kablooey motors plz...

Maybe a built motor will happen around page 60 or so?

(Also that happened to Colipto. He blew a built motor that a shop had built for him. The second one seems to be doing far better!)

Sounds like a lot bitching and not a lot of boosting. :bigtu:

I know, I just wanted to say BOOSSSTTT because I took my car apart anticipating to install a new diff when a part arrived, and it's been like 2 weeks now and I still don't think they have shipped it.... So I miss boossssttttt. Your car is actually faster than mine since mine is on Jackstands!

Same. Just finished finals and I will get blindly drunk and then go squat 300lbs to celebrate.

Also, about 100% I have low compression and burning lots of oil, so we can be friends and break things.

Hopefully you've scheduled a good bit of time between the drinking activity and the lifting activity.

If not, I'm in for video...

Title change was not me. I will not take credit for such a great title that wasn't mine.
