250 on a stock turbo seems like a stretch...I think you run out of efficiency around 12 or 13psi which had my MSM at ~220whp.

It looks really tight too. I'd be slightly worried you'd snap that 180* fitting with a little rocking.

Thanks curly there is actually about 1-2 inches of play in the hose photos may not show that...

+1

14psi is the effective ceiling on the stock IHI turbo but exhaust housings have been known to crack at that level.

My car's "max-dyno" at 12psi was 205whp on the stock IHI turbo, complete 2.5" FM exhaust, AEM CAI, Supra 305cc injectors, Adaptronic e440 Select ECU (the piggyback version) which is about "on par" with most guys with similar modz.

The Blouche turbo mod will possibly allow you to achieve 250whp at the cost of boost lag but you really don't want to track the car at these levels without building the engine first - it's the NA/NB version of Russian Roulette.

This. I currently have the same setup at 12psi and I'm around 210hp. I'm sure with a professional tune maybe I'd squeeze another 5hp. MS ecu, 650cc injectors, full exhaust, intake ic piping and intercooler.

Unless op plans on doing a bigger wheel upgrade in the turbo I don't see 250hp.

To OP, interesting ic piping setup, I did something similar, albeit not as flashy.

thanks guys... well we shall see what we can get out of the stock turbo for now.. dyno date scheduled for june 7th. building a new turbo mani and upgrading turbo next year is already in play... just trying to get all the other stuff squared away need a good base to work off of.

all mods to the car as of now is a 3 " turbo back side dump exhaust, my home built charge pipe set up/ intercooler and intake, tial BOV, 650cc ID injectors, 255 lph pump, Rev built enhanced ms2, got a few other small things on there as well I’m sure we are forgetting.

Been street tuning it for the last few days and already way more power ( butt dyno ) than before. Thanks Rev for the ECU and the decent Base map. haven’t had to tweak a whole lot.

to be honest about the power reason i was hoping for around 250 hp and figured that might be a good # i built a Turbo D16 civic back in the day ( 2005) had 850 cc injectors , Hondata ecu , Ramhorn mani, external gate, 3" exhaust, bone yard Saab turbo ran at 15 psi all day long and didnt become a heat pump , on stock internals we were able to pull 255 HP at the wheels on a mustang dyno that was known to give low #'s so that’s why I figured with a 1.8 ( DOHC)and a similar sized turbo it was possible now I know mazda heads don’t flow like hondas but I can dream ;) any ways thanks for the input its appreciated.

just for referece heres a peak at my old hondas bay for your viewing pleasure ;)

Both cars look clean, congrats!

Running in to a random alternator charging issue... Is the voltage regulated by ecu? I believe the MS2 enhanced ecu handles it? It will chage 14 volts than randomly like 1/2 hour in to a drive drop to 12 than 11 and 10 eventual draining bat, I've retarted it by clutch stated it a few times while issue is happening and it will fix momentarily... I'm stumped I've looked over all grounds and plugs... Any help please

Replied to Jake's email.

The stock alternator is controlled by the ECU. I dumped mine in favor of an FD alternator. 100 amps of internally regulated glory but a bit of a PITA to make fit correctly.

ReallyRottenTurbo 07-07-2014 02:35 PM

thanks Rev!!! darn Nosie Alternators!!

ReallyRottenTurbo 08-25-2014 05:12 PM

Back on track..... hahah finally after a month of down time got the alt control issue resolved... Franks Alt control board saved the day! dyno apt scheduled for Wednesday! Wired up a EBC and ready to up the boost on the tiny stk turbo. prolly 12-13 lbs since it maxes out around 14-15. Maybe by next spring we will have something bigger on there.

We'll back from the dyno . Only ran it to 10lbs on stk wastegate. Made 169.8. And 144 ft lbs tq. On the heartbreak mustang dyno that's know to run 20-25 % low on numbers..

Thanks for the help and advice guys!! Now bigger turbo and more boost!

(Dyno # are compairing all stk orginal baseline done in 2012. Too now tuned set up)

hey guys.... so cars been doing pretty good and set for a track day down at Gingerman raceway next week...

but got a funny gremlin thats keeps happening ive tried contacting Rev since he buidl the ECU but he hasnt gotten back to me since last august.....

the car will randomly Rev surge to 4K RPM and hold there.. than go back to normal and will also rev search ramdonly from 1-2 K RPM... is this maybe a problem with the ECU or settings... im stumped and cant find the issue of course it never happens when i datalog... my tuner doesnt use megasquirt much so hes stumped as well anyone have ideas? greatly apperciated

Pull the plug on the idle valve solenoid. If that stops it from happening, it's probably some idle settings that are out of range. Usually it's something like well I forget since I haven't tuned a MS in a few years. Max Decel Load?

Braineack!!

the setting is likely one of the ones in this screenshot:

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1431170473

I'm guessing your PID lockout Max decel load (%) is too low.

If you have any datalogs of your car idling at the lowest normal vacuum. Make sure it's low enough that you wont ever idle lower than that. maybe like 3-5 kpa lower than idle kpa at most.

second I'd look at the rpmdot threshold. in your logs, try to see what RPMDOT maxes out at when the idle is steady. then set this about 5% higher than that. you want to make sure normal jitter is below this setting.

finally if those dont work you can look at PID Disable RPMdot. This is for when the load suddenly decreases and rpm bumps up during idle. you want this higher than any increases in rpmdot during normal idle. For example: pushing in the clutch, turning off headlights, turning off fans, etc.... leaving it at 1000 is probably ok.

ReallyRottenTurbo 05-11-2015 02:38 PM

thank you ill look in to this tonight and monkey with the settings a bit..

ReallyRottenTurbo 05-15-2015 02:12 PM

well the miata survived several hours of track abuse at Gingerman race way... she did well over all... we did manage to overheat the stk MSM coolant system.... so some modifications will be made...possible reroute kit and big radiator... and also managed to over heat the wilwood big brakes and wilwood 570 high temp fluid.. so again mods... thinking som ducting to get cool air in there... not sure what else to help save them.

FrankB 05-16-2015 08:52 PM

I had the same issue with trying to use my stock coolant system during a hot track day. I'd see if you can snag on of those reroute spacers that are being made in the for sale section. Much better quality then my BEGi kit. That and a TSE or FM crossflow would do you good.

ReallyRottenTurbo 02-09-2016 12:17 PM

Small update. car is running and in the process of upgrading cooling.. new rad, thermo, oil cooler and some hood vent / heat extractors... also here is a video of this summer and my Wife Tara's experiential video for work... yes we work for a cool place!

enjoy
