There's... who was it, intigral? Or whoever took over their blanks. They do custom work for about the same price, if I remember. I wouldn't know the details of what to ask for though.

My car is officially OGK 2.0. Emilio himself wrote it there.

Emilio says 'finesse it in.' This meant 'bend the hell out of it with a five foot pry bar.' Still. It's finally in.

Praying mantises are so cute, saw this guy on my way in:

Did you go from the bottom up or the top down. when installing it?

miata2fast May 21, 2013 08:06 AM

I spy an AC compressor. Get rid of that shit. ;)

18psi May 21, 2013 09:45 AM

Before you install anything else or do anything else, stop, put the parts down, pick up some cleaner and brush/sponge and CLEAN THAT DISGUSTING ENGINE BAY!!!

Seriously. That shit is terrible looking. And I disagree with the twin disc not being a street clutch. Even with the ceramic 4 pucks I daily drive mine and love it. I seldom chatter and never do burnouts because of it. Now doing them on purpose is a whole different story, those I do.

You actually drive a twin disk on the street?

Forget your four puck. Twin disk, y/n?

Don't care. Would rather drive.

Emilio did ask too, though. So. I don't even know how I'd go about cleaning that up.

18psi May 21, 2013 12:19 PM

I yes he drives a twin disk on the street. Having driven his car, I would never, ever, drive a twin disk on the street.

It's two piece, so both.

Haters gonna hate lol

Yep, 949 SuperMiata twin disc, same as yours. Except mine is with the 4 puck ceramic discs. I drove a stock Miata the other day, the clutch felt as if there was nothing there. I asked what's wrong with it, he looked at me like I was stupid.

Nagase May 21, 2013 12:31 PM

Holy shit man. I bow to your godlike clutch-bilities.

I still feel proud if I take my lowly organic off without chugging or burning out.

I'm not sure if my six speed and 4.3 with smaller tires helps or hurts with that.

RyanRaduechel May 21, 2013 12:58 PM

I took mine to San Francisco a few weeks ago. The first time I caught a red light at the top on one of those ridiculous hills I was a little nervous. Especially when the taxi cab behind me drove up my tail pipe. I really had no choice other than the put it in first, hold the e brake and dump the clutch to avoid rolling back into him. After a few hills, I got the hang of it.

Nagase May 21, 2013 01:01 PM

Oh man. The first time I drove my twin disk, I ended up stuck in rush hour traffic, stop and go on the highway for an hour.

Sink or swim times really help you learn.

Of course, it is pretty fun just to powerslide instead of doing it 'properly.'

Short handled soft bristle brush.
Bucket of screaming hot water with a bunch of dish soap.
Start scrubbin'.

Dish soap won't discolor plastics like a strong degreaser can. Once you have the bulk of the grime of. Go back with a another bucket with some hairy degreaser. Rinse the degreaser off right after you're done scrubbing. This is a good time to grab a rattle can from HDM that sorta matches engine bay and touch up areas that don't have any paint left.

Or skip all that , crack open a beer and watch Monaco on NBC.

____

Trick for managing the twin disc clutch.

Instead of modulating with calve muscles, raising your whole leg: Plant your heel on floor and modulate pedal with your ankle. That way when the car jumps forward, your foot moves with it instead of your leg staying put (stalling the car). With practice you can smoothly slip the twin in traffic and loading onto trailer.

It's really hard to plant my heel, to be honest. As I usually wear low heeled sandals that slide out from under me. You did tell me that though, and when I can do it, it definitely helps.

Fireindc May 22, 2013 03:04 PM

Cool thread, but seriously +1 for cleaning that engine bay. I don't know how you take any pride in your car with it looking like that, no offense intended.

Is this not how everyone operates any clutch? Why would you use your calf muscle to modulate a clutch and lift your whole leg for the gas? This make no sense to me.
