Well i need 15 posts, before i can use the PM system around here. So why not just post pictures while achieving such a massive post count.

Where to start...

Why not half way through.

Normally people type stuff with their project logs. Not this one, i'm different this is like a picture book.

A little "do work" remedy.... Really i think it was "icebreaker" flavored tobacco.

Going to try and hand craft a gauge pods, for the din under the radio. Can't justify $44 for a nice one, so $8 hand made with a little spray paint (maybe) might be good enough...

HEY this is supposed to be a picture book!!

It feels so weird to jump into a project log half way in like this. The log i made when i bought the car has 26 pages before i even got to the turbo. :jerkit:

Get that cat out of mah turbo, it can't fuel my engine!!

I PM'd the guy Braineack, that builds and sells MS PNP's about buying one off him. Waiting to hear back.

That's my plan for engine management.

But... Would sticking with 6-8psi really destroy this transmission?

I don't plan on drag racing.

Waits for PM. la la ala al al ala :brain:

Erat 01-11-2012 07:36 PM

How long usually does it take :brain: to get back via PM and build a megasquirt?

Is there anywhere else i could source one? I like the thought of supporting someone on the site.

I'm not in any rush, but the sooner i get it i suppose the quicker i can learn how it works.

Where can i find spark tables, and different maps for a megasquirt? I'm a noob, maybe i should use the search.

My '90 transmission at ~180k miles never gave up on me. Held up over a year at 200-240wtq. Anything can happen, but unless you're really ragging on it I wouldn't expect any issues.

Well if you have two then screw it, run with it. If you break one then put in other and buy a six speed.

If you want to get into EMS tuning then I recommend reading around in the megasquirt section here and elsewhere as much as possible.

Also get a knock sensor.

My car doesn't have a stock knock sensor? I guess i'm :loser: noob.

I'll post more pics when someone sells me a front sway bar, and builds me a PNP MS.

Anyone know if that IAT sensor should go in any further? Looks right, but i don't want to force it all the in if it can't go.

Still waiting for WARMTH so i can start doing some wiring without breaking fingers.

They leak.

They fall apart

They don't provide equal squishing around the thing they are squishing.

I'm helping.

:yippee:

Seriously, what he said. Those clamps will eat your hose and cause them to leak. I had to chase down one of those leaks to the 2" piece of hose between the collector and fuel pump in the tank. Never again.

Be sure to get the right clamps, they're very sensitive to what size they fit over. They won't go any bigger or any smaller than the advertised size.

Stock fuel system, wastegate pressure, no intercooler, will be tuned conservatively.

The title fits.

Looking at this build thread it makes me wish I just built my bp and bought a kit. Everything works and you don't have to make any parts. I love the simple clean look of this car. Keep the picture book coming.

gearhead_318 02-20-2012 10:47 PM

You can get them from here:
http://949racing.com/hard-dog-bolt-i...-97-miata.aspx

Or here for the ones in the particular one in the pic above:
http://www.gomiata.com/bofrmifridob.html

Or probably some other places too. A member here builds them in 10's or something every once and a while for a group buy, but I can't remember who though. I'd do a search if your interested.

Oh. and question.

Will need to reuse my stock o2 sensor if i use the AEM wideband with the megasquirt? I put my AEM o2 in the front / furthest up bung, and i kinda don't want to have to take it back out and put it further back to use the stock o2 sensor. This slipped my mind till just a few hours ago...

soviet 03-04-2012 05:28 PM

man the paint on your car looks so good in some place... I'm jelly.

Erat 03-04-2012 06:25 PM

Unfourtinally it has been repainted in the stock color. It has a 1 stage paint on it. It's nice but has its problems. Lower rockers are rusted and front port side fender is dented but I have a replacement. Once that all gets fixed up it will get minty fresh paint.

Erat 03-11-2012 01:11 AM

Well i know i vowed not to post anything but pictures, but whatever. This is where i'm at.

First start.

On the road for tuning. :vash::vash::vash:

Hopefully i'm counting on the 5-6 months it sat, plus running the heater in the garage, and the warm / cold changing weather. I think what might have happened is rust got on the pressure plate and flywheel causing it to slip like mad. By the end of the night it was getting better, but we put it away. Spec stage 2 by the way, it should NOT be slipping. My cooling fan was also not turning on for some reason, we'll get that sorted out as well.

Mainly because i was just maxing the ---- out of my stock injectors. So BIGGER injectors are in the works now for sure. I guess we maxed them around 5500rpm @ 6psi. Hit 140% duty cycle at one point. So more juice is in the works. Very soon.

Thanks to Lucas for doing the wiring and tuning today.

I'm happy to get it back on the road and going. But doing it right, and one step at a time is key.

chpmnsws6 03-11-2012 10:18 AM

No leaks from the bellhousing?

A spec should hold WAY more then your putting down.

The oil pressure will be high... its revving to the moon when cold.

Erat 03-11-2012 11:04 AM

That's what i'm hoping for, either it got rusted, or some type of fluid got leaked on it during the whole turbo install process. In that case it SHOULD burn off after time, but we'll see.

I think i might buy these injectors.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUBARU-IMPRE...5f9d9b&vxp=mtr

Anyone else running WRX injectors?

samnavy 03-11-2012 11:21 AM

^That worm clamp will see 40psi if you've still got the stock fuel pump... I think it'll be OK. I put my entire fuel system together using similar worm-clamps running 100+psi (130psi for a few weeks but didn't know it) for a few years with no issues.

samnavy 03-11-2012 11:23 AM

I had a SpecStgII that slipped on me for a few months... I called Spec, talked ---- about them, went on a rampage... then took the tranny off and discovered I hadn't torqued the bolts down all the way and it was entirely my fault.

That clutch was awesome, and I'd say even smoother/easier than a stock clutch, which is saying a lot. If it's slipping, there's a 99% chance you've mis-installed it.

Erat 03-11-2012 01:57 PM

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1331488648

Sooooo I guess my phantom clutch issue i had the other day has solved its self. Seems to be holding now. I figure i must of had a fluid, or rust on it. Here is some video. Looks like i'm going lean around 5500rpm, but i'm pulling down a hair shy of 10psi (wastegate pressure). I wasn't full throttle in any of these, but close to it. It also spools around 2000rpm, so very nice but such a workout for the BOV. :D

Erat 03-11-2012 03:25 PM

Idk. Phantom clutch issues seem to come and go. Was working fine for a while then started slipping after about an hour and a half of driving.

Might just trash this spec crap and get something better.

Erat 03-12-2012 11:36 AM

Hopefully this weekend i'll be ripping this transmission off to figure out the clutch. That's going to be fun with no lift.

Still nothing about the WRX injectors? I read somewhere that a custom spacer needed to be made. But i also read they were PnP.

0.0 THEY ARE BOTH!!! There is no easy solution. -.-

curly 03-12-2012 08:55 PM

FWIW, mine slipped for a few hundred miles, then worked fine. Granted it never came back like yours. If it were me, I'd wait it out a bit before taking the transmission off, just stay out of boost. Disconnect wastegate and let the clutch bed itself. Keep an eye out for oil, in case it's your rear main seal making the flywheel/pp oily.

Fireindc 03-13-2012 01:48 PM

Get yourself some rx7 injectors or something that's plug n play. As for the clutch i would listen to curly, take it for a nice long 200 mile drive, drive like a normal person, and then see if it's still slipping.

Erat 03-13-2012 04:55 PM

So I took it out for about a 30 mile drive today after work. And right around 30 miles of city driving it started to slip. I'm not sure if because it's pucked and it is just getting to hot with my driving style or what. I can't say I was that hard on it. No high rpm shifts I can't rev past 5k anyway. Also staying low in boost don't think I went above 0psi very often. Maybe I didn't break it in properly when I first got it on my NA motor.

Throwout bearing is squeaking away pretty good, not sure what that means. Ordered FM stage 1 clutch. Injectors next Friday. And looking for an intercooler.

Last little video before it goes under the knife, when it comes back it should be back with 100% more awesome.
